  1. New born fawns are always fun to stumble across. As long as their not found with the tractor or mower. Those times are not so fun.. lol

  4. Been writing since high school. Even went to college to teach literature (even though I still talk like a hillbilly) but dropped out because my mind is useless when contemplating numbers. But I've finally can mark getting published off the bucket list! I wrote a piece for American Digger Magazine. Also have a new video up. Walked two miles of creek in search of yet another major civil war crossing. Found some interesting things. Then on to a home site that was captured by union forces in 1863. Oh yeah, and two owls. All videos are better will owls. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  6. I stopped at the local deli this morning after turkey hunting. This little mooch sat on my side view mirror looking for a piece of my buttered roll. I was able to feed him out of my hand.

  7. Couple of years ago while turkey hunting. I hear something behind me. Here comes a still wet fawn stumbling thru the mayapples I could have tapped it on the nose with my shotgun. It stumbled out to the fields edge, looked around and came back. When leaving the woods I found about 50 feet away where it was birthed. Neat stuff.

  16. The Liberal media will attack Trump with everything they got. The Funny thing is Hilary is under Criminal investigation and Trump is attacked? A socialist is beating Hilary and Obama beat Hilary, she is a loser with important Friends. Trump will control the liberal media by beating them at there own game.

  17. Crows were coming in. Hen literally jumped from field edge into woods and hid. Wish she would have talked some more. I couldn't call , she was quiet and now don't know exactly where she is. There she is.

  18. My guess, I don't think a doe would make any sounds at all giving birth due to predators always being present. That would be like ringing a dinner bell, not only for her fawn but her as well.

  19. Yes ~ Monday. actually watched one pop out. It's a weird year. Saw goslings almost a month ago with one set of parents. Frogs were in the pond real early and then froze to death.

  20. i make it a point to not shoot button bucks as do others in the area. kind of frowned upon out this way for one reason or another. doesn't necessarily help your hunting as they relocate. it helps the future buck numbers for those around you though. besides I've processed them before. practically the same amount of work for a fraction of the meat. PITA if you ask me.

  25. I'm sorry guys but I did taxidermy full time for over 20 years and went to school for it. Wet tan imo is not inferior. Now if I had a customer who insisted on dry tan Id certainly comply but I did many mounts both ways n you can see no difference either way. Now what I think you may be describing is dry preserved. Basically using a raw hide, fleshed n basically borax soap and preservative is thrown on it than mounted. You can see those mounts everywhere. Ears split, drumming, etc. Either wet or dry tan are great, pros n cons to both. Wet tan stretches much easier, thus fits a manikin easier n fills "voids" in the manikin. But it takes up space in the freezer if not instantly done, turn around as WNY said is a week. Dry tan is gonna get wet once you soak it to remove ear, nose cartilage, turn eyes, etc. can be thrown on a bench for storage n takes slightly longer. Anyone who is telling you its a tannery at fault isn't being honest. Yes it takes time, shipping costs so you can have slower guys trying to fill boxes for a few months before shipping, as WNY said there's prob a bunch of folks in front of you. I've never heard of one guy ever cut a customer off cause he spent less or put say a 15 grand guy in front of him. If your tsxidermist is working n not screwing off Id hope you pick a busy one. I tried to stay under a year but it was tough. That mount is s memory that stays on a wall a long time, if the guy is doing quality work don't Rush it

  27. http://averagehunter.com/12-years-record-book-whitetails/ Interesting article and rankings of states then and now.. I would think with an entire state doing ar's Pennsylvania would be way ahead of New York ... doesn't seem that way... .

  29. For a long time Catt County was the top turkey producer in the state. I've hunted deer in East Otto for years. I've seen lots of birds there in the past during deer season. Even got to see a big Tom get ripped to shreds by two yotes a few years back. It was tough to watch, but pretty cool to see. I'd give it a shot. Just know that East Otto draws a lot of hunters from the Buffalo area in deer season. I'd imagine it's pretty crowded. Don't forget that 20 minutes down the road in Ellicottville you can go to McCarty Hill State forest. I've never hunted there, but it's a lot bigger than East Otto.

  31. It is awesome finding them. i have come across 4 or 5 over the years now. I came across this fawn last year as i was stepping around this very tree, trying to get around on a couple gobbling birds. Something just did not look right so i basically jumped and caught myself. Only to find this fawn hiding out.. took a bunch of photos. One fawn wasn't so lucky, I was mowing down some tall grass and weeds to start prepping a food plot early June, I saw the doe come out and slip into the woods and knew immediately there probably was a fawn in there. After mowing awhile i forgot all about it, As i got to the center of mowing the 2 acre plot, the 3rd to last pass it jumped up out and around the front wheel and ran to the field edge. Looked fine, seemed fine running. My neighbor said 2 days later a fawn was hanging out around her back door and injured in the rear. I found it a week from the mow date, dead back near my food plot.. kinda sad This other fawn, got lucky found her right before the tractor did..

  33. I've taken 2 completely diffrent size deer to the same guy ,got them both cut the same way and the same amount in return. Don't need the hassle of arguing over something that ultimately I couldn't prove ,I take my business else now.

  40. when looking at McVey you have to look at motive.. the government started that slippery slope with Waco. that could have been prevented but Janet Reno decided to take the path supreme authority. she backed up her statement with Ruby Ridge. in both instances innocent women and children were murdered in the name of government authority. when McVeigh was put to death his interviews often referred to these atrocities committed by Reno. that doesn't make McVeigh's actions right but it did show provocation. since the okc bombing the government has altered how it handles us citizens on us soil, so he did make a difference, albeit at the cost of children that had no part in it. 46. Yes buy if you believe all the ar propaganda, bug bucks running everywhere is the feeling they try to tell.you will happen ,yet in rankings a non ar state is comparable to the ar state.. with in a deer or two entered in the books.. I would think you would never see ny in the top 25 anytime the way people push them, and pa is only the same with mandatory ar.. so all I can say is I'm glad nys hasn't gone to statewide ar's as it doesn't seem to be nessary as far as book bucks go..

  49. I like to say Trump, if he's elected, will be either the best president the US has had in a very long time, or the worst. No middle ground on that one, it's a big gamble like putting one's life savings on black at one of his casinos!
