  1. Well, started scouting the end of July... Running 6 cameras.... Had 4 8 pt's and 2 7 pt's on my hit list for bucks.... All through August had them showing up pretty consistently... then in Sept. they feel off the planet.. saw one here and there but mostly does and small bucks... I figured come the rut I might see one of the bucks on my list... First afternoon I am in my favorite stand, hoping to fill a doe tag on a big nanny doe.... pass on a spike at 3:00, deer are moving early for sure... 5:40 I look up, see deer moving towards me, check my bino's and see two smaller bucks, a 6 and a 4 moving towards me, a big doe bringing up the rear, grab the bow.... look back and see the 2 small bucks face off and spare, then split.... a 4th deer comes into view and it is one of the 8pts, he trots forward and takes the lead to my stand.. He comes by at 15 yards and I send the Slick Trick Mag through him... he crashes through the hedgerow out to the field... when I get to the base of the tree I can see him laying out in the field... he went under 90 yards.... Now it is doe only for me while I try to get the wife a deer and my buddy's 13 year old son his first.... Scouting pic then the hero shots... Remember, I'm not a "little" guy.... LOL

  3. Shot her at 2 on opening day and hit her back due to my arrow hitting the blind window and I let her lay for a couple hours and recovered her around 6.

  6. Shot at 540, waited an hour I knew the shot was high. She went about 75 yards. Arrow passed through top of the shoulder and went through the ribs opposite side but never through the skin. I will say I'm happy with the NAP killzones, there is a 2" gash through the shoulder clipped high on one lung and made a massive wound on the second. Wish it would have exited the deer opposite side, but she died fast.

  7. So I've mentioned the "activity" across the street...cars..trucks 4 wheelers...Well just now I hear a 4 wheeler and before I can get to the end of drive he takes off... I hit the crest of the hill and hes stopping all the way down... Well he was out front for a while and I decide nipping this in the bud was needed...I hop in the car..turn at intersection wrong... I then turn around ...stop a walker and ask if the saw him..yep so I catch him on the next road over... roll down window ..smile Hi, so you just stopped at my place up on the hill can I help you with something?...His face about fell off...I was ahhh ahhh just looking... For anything in particular?... ahhh the foliage.....he's on a camo 4 wheeler wearing camo. Long and short of it .....I was very nice ,big smile and explained the problems we all have, especially during hunting season. I though perhaps he was out there so long taking down my cell number from the posted sign and needed to contact me...so here I am... ....He apologized and I said absolutely no reason to apologize, I was just making sure everything was OK and told him to enjoy the rest of his fall. This did 2 things...nipped any real problem in the bud, if he was less than upfront and The entire town will know I am on patrol...lol

  8. Oct 3 - I had a call last night from a hunter that shot a 7 pointer. He said the deer moved just as he released and the arrow hit way back. The good news is the buck was quartering away. He stated the arrow was sticking out about 8 inches as it ran off, and the hunter and his friend followed good blood for a couple hundred yards, then marked where it became sparse and called me. We started at the hit site and Luna quickly covered the trail to the point of loss. We went about 400 yards with no sign and did a restart. We ended up at a dry creek bed and were walking it when Luna shut down due to the warm temps. It was at this point I realized I left the water in the truck, and Luna and I headed to a nearby waterhole. One of the guys headed to the truck to get the water and unknown to me, another guy had gone ahead. He called and said he found where the buck crossed the creek. Luna refused to drink any water, which is normal while she tracks and we headed to the crossing. Luna immediately went back to work. We followed the track for about 100 yards or so and found the buck.

  9. Last night over the murder plot. Chasing any deer she wants to shoot, just hoping it to be the patterned 3.5 yr old. But whatever she wants to shoot, doesn't bother me one bit. Had 4 longbeards eat in clover in front of us, saw about 10 deer and she shot at a doe eating in the plot and just caught a couple hairs off her back. She's still pumped. Getting her a deer is my main priority this fall, I'll take the back seat. And hunt for the big boys when she can't. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  15. Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I was given a shot of morphine at the ER and took a narcotic pain medication last night. It has me feeling a bit sick today, so just taking Tylenol for the pain from now on. I'm in a back brace until I follow up with an orthopedic Dr. on Wednesday. Can only stand for short periods. No lifting or bending. Elbow is very swollen but feeling a bit better. My bow has a broken quiver mount and the slide on my HHA sight was pushed all the way up so I'm sure it needs to be resighted. Cams and everything else looks to be ok? After leaving the ER my buddy went back for my gear and brought it to me last night. He looked more worried for me than I was and I know why we've been friends since we were boys. He was there when I needed him just like he always has been. Same for my wife and family. I keep telling them I'm fine! Dr. said I was lucky and I did right to go to the ER. And that any spinal fracture could be serious! But I'm doing ok other than a bit of pain, I'll be just fine! And will be back out hunting just as soon as I can! Got pic's of a few different bucks on that ridge! I don't always carry my phone while hunting. But grabbed it at the last second before leaving my truck. I will never hunt without it again!!! And implore each and every one reading this to do likewise! And to remember that no matter how careful you are, things can happen in an instant! Do it for your family and your best friend. Because I've seen, they suffer more than you do.

  19. Forum is acting up and makes Tapatalk unusable. Even the reg browser isn't working smooth for me. I found my doe. Shot was a little far back and went through both sides of the rib cage but didn't go through the hide on exit side. Bounced around inside her and tore everything up. She made it across the field and about 30-40 yards into the woods before piling up. Shes already been hung and butchered. Aging her in the fridge now. Should be mighty fine eatin!!

  20. So while I was sitting in my treestand this past weekend wondering if my Ozonics was doing anything to help me or hurt me I decided I would log all of my hunts and try and draw conclusions. It should help me decide if this purchase was worth the money and if anyone else is thinking about the purchase it should help them as well. Due to work and other obligations I am generally only able to hunt weekends (mostly Sunday mornings) so this will only be updated about once a week. Saturday Morning (10/1) I got to my treestand early, about 5:45. I wanted to set up my tree umbrella and the ozonics before first light. I got everything set up and turned the ozonics on....The ozonics was LOUD....it sounded like a drone flying over my head in the silent dark woods. I seriously thought about shutting it off but I decided I am going to give it a go. There was virtually no wind and the air was thick and heavy after a rain. Temp about 48 degrees. As soon as I could see a little bit I checked the wind and got the ozonics pointed in the right direction. I noticed if I moved my head just slightly away from directly underneath it, it was much quieter. Once the woods "woke up" I really didn't notice the noise of the ozonics very much. The noise it made that I kept thinking it sounded like was if you had a propane torch lit and just sitting there. Like a white noise. After a while I think my brain just ignored the noise...I didn't feel like it impacted my ability to hear the chipmunks and squirrels that still sounded as if a heard of deer were coming through. I still had squirrels running up and down the tree I was in, didn't seem like they noticed. At about 10am with no deer sightings I started to wonder if the ozonics was hurting me, but nobody else that was hunting was seeing anything either. Climbed down at Noon to get lunch and was back in the saddle with the ozonics running by 2pm. I should mention after reading the directions the battery that came with the unit said it only lasts 4 hours on treestand mode. That is almost useless to me since I almost always sit until at least noon so I purchased an extended life battery that is suppost to last at least 8-10 hours in treestand mode. I sat from 2pm until dark. The ozonics ran the whole day on the XL battery so I didn't need to use the one that came with it. No deer sightings this day. Two of the 6 others hunting had deer encounters. Sunday Morning (10/2) I got to my treestand about the same time as Saturday and got setup. Again the ozonics seemed loud until I got used to the noise. Wind was again very very light and seemed to be swirling. Temp about 51 degrees and again the air was think and heavy. At about 9 am I catch movement off to my right side (about 2 o'clock) Ozonics pointed about 4 O'clock and to my right with the very light almost no wind. I watch a fat Momma and her baby slowly feed toward me. I grab my bow and stand to get in position and wait. They are about 45 yds away. They feed toward me and look as if they are going to pass on my right. I decide I don't need a deer bad enough to shoot a momma with her baby and put my bow back on the hook and observe. The fawn feeds within 15-20 yds of me with momma following behind. The encounter lasts about 15 minutes as they feed from my right in front of me to my right in back of me. I am assuming they had to smell the ozone but I don't know. Wind was very light from my checking the wind it almost seemed like my scent would be rising but I don't know how that works exactly. They fed off without hearing the fan or alerting to my scent although I feel that is inconclusive with the conditions. About 10am I hear a commotion behind me and look to see several turkey running every which way. Some starting to fly. As all the turkeys but one have taken off I notice a coyote is stalking the last bird. As it flies off I wonder if the coyote is going to give me a shot and I grab my bow. He gives me a broadside shot at what I estimate is 35 yds. I aim a little high with my single pin site and drill him right in the side and roll him over. I was actually a little surprised I hit him and then I was mad at myself for even taking the shot. That was a shot I would not have taken on a deer (to far out of my range) so I should treat other animals with the same respect. I climbed down to finish him off since he was rolling around biting at the arrow. (he destroyed my arrow and I couldn't find my broadhead) I did find my lighted nock laying on the ground. I packed up after that and went home in time for my daughters soccer game. First weekend conclusions. For anyone that is concerned about the health of having an ozone generator operating above their head, I don't see this as a concern. Maybe 5 times through the whole weekend I caught a wiff of ozone when the wind swirled. If you are using it correctly and it is pointed down wind you should never notice the ozone. The fan seems loud but you get used to it and are able to ignore it. It doesn't seem to hurt my ability to hear game. I had deer as close as 15 yds and they didn't seem to be able to hear the fan. I have no idea if it helped with my scent or hurt. I am not sure how I am going to prove that. I think I am going to pick up some "floaters" wind checkers so if I do have deer around me I decide I am not going to shoot I can check the wind and see if I can tell for sure if the deer cross my scent path. Otherwise I am afraid I will have to end every post with inconclusive as I am ending this one.

  21. So last Saturday afternoon I'm in one of my ladder stands, bit of wind moving tree tops here & there. Ratchet strap making a light creaking noise. Looked it over a month prior, seemed taught, ok. Few minutes go by, now it's one of those things that'll drive you nuts trying to keep quiet & all, ok gotta deal with it. Waited until wind rustled some leaves for cover noise and go to tighten up a click. And 'poof' she goes. All my ladder stands have extensions I'm about 19' up. Most of us know what a pain setting up extended stands can be but that's another deal. 2nd ratchet saved the hunt. And yes I'm harnessed in. Goes to show an extra step for safety pays off. Good hunting.

  23. There's no reason to use iron sights over a properly selected scope at any range unless the gun won't mount a scope over the center of the action or the weapon in question is a muzzle loader.

  25. Looks nice. Was me last year. Fought it for a few years but finally lost. And the money we saved by me laying an entire level of the house in flooring with dozens and dozens of cuts around all the corners and hallway and then installing fresh molding along the bottom just found its way into new furniture anyway.

  28. That had nothing to do with it - A sizeable percentage of stock was purchased on the market by an activist investor - one who forces companies to divest, go private, and sale. The activist made their intentions known and Cabela's decided to seek a buyout. BPS leveraged their cash on hand and partnered with some well-known business to lead the funding venture. This guy is making a fortune - there is almost a 20% premium being paid. That's it in a nut-shell.

  29. What a great! morning!...I still can't believe how blk. out it is..again had to use my lamp...I got to one of the oak flat stands with a N/W possible breeze...though hardly anything...never spooked a deer but 30 mins. in I hear some sparing farther up the ridge and SW of me. It as difficult to make out at first because it was literally raining acorns and they were hitting every branch on the way down. Then Oh my! the squirrels woke up and I swear they were up there dumping buckets. As it got light I was having a hard time seeing the deer feeding just 10yrds away they all blended into the oak leaf ground cover and the tree leafs kept the woods dark even at 9:40 when I left..I had a 5 point(pic below) chasing doe all around and then another bigger buck came in and they had a tussle...30 yards from me..I looked like the wide 6 but I couldn't tell they were behind other oaks..then a doe and fawn came in across the ridge above me ...they wanted nothing to do with the bucks and stayed on the high side...Then another fight broke out behind me and I heard what sounded like a horse cough...not sure if it was a snort wheeze but what ever made it had a very baritone deep vocal...They never showed...the other two meandered off to my west sparing away...Everyone was off to bed by 9:30 and it was starting to get misty out so I snuck out undetected...Wow nothing dull about this morning...grabbed upper cams...made rt. decision for all the doe showed up at 5:31 under the apple tree stand...which is when I was at the end of the drive deciding where to go...the buck in pic was the one fighting with another( big6?)and chasing doe this morning...

Saw 4 does saturday, took shot at one she ducked and went just barely over her back. Sunday morning saw a 4 and 6 pointer traveling together, they were close but on full alert and presented no shot. Good weekend all in all.

  34. Well...you get either sex and antler less with bow/ml tag, you get buck tag for gun, 2 dmp tags, u can get 2 more of left overs and you can get a few more signed over to u....so you can get close to ten, I've shot 4 in a season a couple times, but that sounds a little exaggerated to me.

  36. I would have liked almost all these posts IF I could, lol. Not so sure I would have passed him, he does look like a 3 year old and I could see one of us shooting him with a short shot window. Because he was directly under the stand my buddy Chris got a good look at him and that was the real reason he was passed. He is a good 3 year old but will be a real shooter at 4 and this is really what we are going for so this guy is now off limits. Lucky for us we are in an area that has high population and can pass something like this. If we actually shoot one of the better ones you will see why we pass these guys. Fingers crossed, pre rut is close! This is the same area I saw a brute last year and hope he is still around.
