And can't wait ! Washed clothes today and stowed in plastic tub. Saturday's hunt will be til 10:15 or so and rush daughter to ballet , lol. Doesn't seem like her skipping it is needed as what I'm seeing most deer sightings are morning and evening anyhow. Sunday evening sit and have all day on Monday if needed. We've set cams , inventoried bucks , clipped trails on way in , checked blind we built last year , she's shot a bunch practicing, ( $$$ in slugs ) , have a checklist of what I need to pack. We're ready. Her gun has been waiting to be christened for many years. This day has long been awaited. Any deer will be a trophy but not going to lie. Hope she tips over one of the few big 8's we have on cam. They're all bigger than my best , lol. This opening day is by far the most special to me of all time ! Hi All, hopefully the site issues are resolved. Sorry, was out of my control, the data center we are in had applied some aggressive firewall rules at their core routers which caused false positives and blocked part of our site.7 points

I've been watching this guy buzzing across the top of the standing corn and dive bombing innocent feeding doves the past few evenings. He hasn't nailed any yet that I've seen, but that doesn't stop him from trying again, and again..., and again. He finally did a fly-bye through one of my shooting lanes where I landed this shot. I THINK it is a Harrier hawk based on my googling, but looking for confirmation from you raptor guys.6 points

I've seen a few pics on this forum of trailcams with bucks breeding does already. Doesn't surprise me. Not so sure on temps versus calendar year affecting them I dated this girl in HS who was in heat for 52 weeks a year . Wait , that's a different story but gosh do I miss her5 points

Well, started scouting the end of July... Running 6 cameras.... Had 4 8 pt's and 2 7 pt's on my hit list for bucks.... All through August had them showing up pretty consistently... then in Sept. they feel off the planet.. saw one here and there but mostly does and small bucks... I figured come the rut I might see one of the bucks on my list... First afternoon I am in my favorite stand, hoping to fill a doe tag on a big nanny doe.... pass on a spike at 3:00, deer are moving early for sure... 5:40 I look up, see deer moving towards me, check my bino's and see two smaller bucks, a 6 and a 4 moving towards me, a big doe bringing up the rear, grab the bow.... look back and see the 2 small bucks face off and spare, then split.... a 4th deer comes into view and it is one of the 8pts, he trots forward and takes the lead to my stand.. He comes by at 15 yards and I send the Slick Trick Mag through him... he crashes through the hedgerow out to the field... when I get to the base of the tree I can see him laying out in the field... he went under 90 yards.... Now it is doe only for me while I try to get the wife a deer and my buddy's 13 year old son his first.... Scouting pic then the hero shots... Remember, I'm not a "little" guy.... LOL5 points

Turns out I made a new blind at noon, sat at 6:15 PM and shot a doe at 6:35 PM. Honestly I don't know exactly how I drew (it was like Moog said, autopilot) except I was focused on keeping the deers heads behind the tree in front of me until I was at full draw and looking through the peep. Then I stepped to the side of tree and the deer was in my sights. They looked at me but didn't spook. I think the advice I got about being silhoutted in a blind yesterday and day before might have made the difference. I put a bunch of foliage upright behind me to block any silhoutting from a lighter patch of open ground up the hill behind me. Thanks everyone for all the help.5 points

Phew......what I'd give to be a little birdie watching from the next little hunk of brush! I wish you and the little princess all the luck in the world this weekend. Matter of fact, if the Good Lord has any good fortune waiting for me this fall, hopefully he sends it your way and I get the cob instead. There's going to be a few of us here waiting on the report!4 points

I think it's a coding issue, from what I understand John is the only one writing the code for this site. Most likely the other Mods only have rights on the forum. IE-- to move, edit, or delete threads. They probably do not have access to the the CP to edit the main code or software of the site. I give props to eddie for trying to get the posts cleaned up alone at this point.4 points

Don't worry Growie....Some of the "vets" like you and me realize that the damn deer can't read a calendar... Neither can turkeys in the spring, but it seems like every year someone is worried about "something" happening before or after it is "supposed' to happen..3 points

I was just telling my dad and brother about sending you guys the barrel and how I have been counting down the days! I'm on the other side of the state and I might have trouble sleeping Friday night! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Got home from work at 830am. Slept until 250. In the stand at 310. Wasn't in here 5 mins before 2 doe and a yearling came out of the tall grass and have been wandering around in front of me about 60-80 yards out ever since. Haven't hunted this stand yet. But I like it so far. Nice visibility into this dried up swampy area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Of course, the guy isn't a hunter, and he gets an 8 pnt to lay down at his doorstep like an offering. We, as hunters, spend hours in the deer's neighborhood, waiting, hoping, pleading, praying, cursing in vain for that one to walk by... Hahahahahaaha.3 points

I have been wanting to go antelope hunting for a few years and my wife surprised me with the trip as a gift. Of course she did not book anything in fear of it not being what I wanted. I am looking for recommendations for outfitters that others have used in the past. I am centering in on Wyoming as the destination. Any help is appreciated.3 points

Little cruel or insensitive, but it wouldn't have hurt my feeling if the thieves kidnapped her and she was never heard from again. In fact, take the entire clan - Please!3 points

Passed on a doe, she walked right to my buddy's stand and he put a heart shot on her, she died 30 yards from my stand, 3 days and 3 does down for the 2 of us. Time to wait on some bucks. Very impressed with the nap sling blade broadhead performance.3 points

Oct 3 - I had a call last night from a hunter that shot a 7 pointer. He said the deer moved just as he released and the arrow hit way back. The good news is the buck was quartering away. He stated the arrow was sticking out about 8 inches as it ran off, and the hunter and his friend followed good blood for a couple hundred yards, then marked where it became sparse and called me. We started at the hit site and Luna quickly covered the trail to the point of loss. We went about 400 yards with no sign and did a restart. We ended up at a dry creek bed and were walking it when Luna shut down due to the warm temps. It was at this point I realized I left the water in the truck, and Luna and I headed to a nearby waterhole. One of the guys headed to the truck to get the water and unknown to me, another guy had gone ahead. He called and said he found where the buck crossed the creek. Luna refused to drink any water, which is normal while she tracks and we headed to the crossing. Luna immediately went back to work. We followed the track for about 100 yards or so and found the buck.3 points

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I was given a shot of morphine at the ER and took a narcotic pain medication last night. It has me feeling a bit sick today, so just taking Tylenol for the pain from now on. I'm in a back brace until I follow up with an orthopedic Dr. on Wednesday. Can only stand for short periods. No lifting or bending. Elbow is very swollen but feeling a bit better. My bow has a broken quiver mount and the slide on my HHA sight was pushed all the way up so I'm sure it needs to be resighted. Cams and everything else looks to be ok? After leaving the ER my buddy went back for my gear and brought it to me last night. He looked more worried for me than I was and I know why we've been friends since we were boys. He was there when I needed him just like he always has been. Same for my wife and family. I keep telling them I'm fine! Dr. said I was lucky and I did right to go to the ER. And that any spinal fracture could be serious! But I'm doing ok other than a bit of pain, I'll be just fine! And will be back out hunting just as soon as I can! Got pic's of a few different bucks on that ridge! I don't always carry my phone while hunting. But grabbed it at the last second before leaving my truck. I will never hunt without it again!!! And implore each and every one reading this to do likewise! And to remember that no matter how careful you are, things can happen in an instant! Do it for your family and your best friend. Because I've seen, they suffer more than you do.3 points

Hunted my neighbors 20 acres this morning. Lovely sit, no deer. My positive vibes failed to bring in a monster willing to participate in the plan of action. Gonna take a few days off, give the woods a break during these warmer days.2 points

I think Hillary's IT people may have taken a wet rag and wiped the server ........ The person who can make the fix on here might still be dragging a deer out of the woods .2 points

Different rules for different pieces of land. Best to reach out to DEP's website for accurate information. For example, some areas you need an access permit. Some areas you don't. Some areas will allow guns, while other areas don't. Some areas will allow small game, while others only big game. Find out the piece you want to hunt, and look it up on DEP's website. I learned to always have scope at lowest setting. You can dial it up if need be . If the critter is close you may not have the time or stealth not to be seen to dial it down.2 points

Tried it once and got lucky. Perfect conditions; doe upwind, high grass field with knoll between me and doe; and doe walked where I anticipated; lastly doe seemed as surprised as me as I rose to make the shot. Stayed put for a few seconds. It was one of many doe I have taken but only second with the recurve and remains a very memorable hunt for me.2 points

Got busted this morning stalking a doe, turns out she had a posse and they ganged up on me. Later surrounded me and started blowing, and it wasn't the good kind either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Shot her at 2 on opening day and hit her back due to my arrow hitting the blind window and I let her lay for a couple hours and recovered her around 6.2 points

Shot at 540, waited an hour I knew the shot was high. She went about 75 yards. Arrow passed through top of the shoulder and went through the ribs opposite side but never through the skin. I will say I'm happy with the NAP killzones, there is a 2" gash through the shoulder clipped high on one lung and made a massive wound on the second. Wish it would have exited the deer opposite side, but she died fast.2 points

I have had lots of good experiences with Bass Pro. Mostly it has been internet and and catalog purchases going back quite a while. I still use the Garcia Ambassader 5500C fishing reel and Eagle silent 60 flasher that I bought from my first catalog purchase there in 1981. By charging all of my business travel expenses and gas to my BPS card, and paying it off every month, most of my sporting equipment has been free for the last 10 years or so. I have also been up to the store in Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario a few times and the staff there is extremely helpful. I did visit the Auburn store once, and the service there was ok, but certainly not stellar like it has been up in Canada, every time. About 15 years ago, I ordered a pair of weatherproof insulated camo bibs in preparation for a western hunt. When they arrived, they were way too big. I called the store and they sent me out a new pair the right size, which arrived 2 days later (just in time for the trip) at no extra charge. They even covered the return postage on the big pair. That was the only time I tested their return policy. Everything else I have "bought" there including the Bass Pro brands (Red-Head, etc) has performed very well. I just got a new, lightweight, BPS brand spinning reel this summer, at a very low price, and it has been great. Bass Pro Shops has been my favorite store for a long time. Hopefully this deal will make them even better.1 point

Deer tend to pick up the slightest movement at eye level. You will want to draw as early as possible and time your draw and make your move while they are walking and behind any cover between you and them for sure. A good camo pattern, slow, well timed movement and a lot of luck are needed to get into position to release an arrow on a deer while hunting from the ground. I would prefer to sit behind the blind/cover to break up my silhouette, but that's me.1 point

The site is weird here too. i see pictures of Papist and Uptown Redneck hunting together, read a thread where Bubba put his wife's tag on a second buck, and Doc was able to walk for miles in the valley and not see a posted sign or mountain biker.1 point
