  3. I'm actually in the process of starting a seed company but it's still in the development stages. I will be offering true premium seed and blends. There will be pre-blends and custom blends, For the custom blends, you will have a section where you fill out the plot size and as you click the seed you want it will automatically tell you the lbs needed.

  4. 22 inches so far. Getting a couple more before it's all done. Wind steady at 15 to 20. Gusts to 35. Drifts in spots over 4 feet. Temp right now at 3 degrees. Spent 4 and a half hours shoveling, snow blowing and plowing. A hot meal and a glass of brandy by the wood stove.....priceless!

  5. I think I have a deer problem. I've had the cameras out for the last few weeks in a main funnel area. The cameras are set up about 25 yards from my stand. Still a few nice bucks lingering around carrying head gear, and one freak that showed up after the season. Looks like one buck finally dropped his left side. Once I start to get a bunch of pictures of antlerless bucks I'll start walking around looking for sheds. Until then, the woods belong to them. In a few of the pics you can see the deer looking at my other camera.

  10. Try doing a ping test, that will tell you if you are losing connection. Otherwise 90% of the time I find it is due to the customers computer being infected by viruses, spyware of some other type of infection. Try downloading Malwarebytes from http://download.cnet.com/windows/ it is on the right side of the page and is the 15th most popular download. If you do not want this to run all the time because you already have antivirus then uncheck the box that says enable free 30 day trial. Otherwise just keep clicking next until it is done installing, make sure you update before scanning. After you scan, remove all threats and see if you are working better. Good luck. If you really need help I can take control of your computer and do this for you but try yourself and let me know if you need more help.

  12. I think you tend to forget sometimes that these are just ideas an opinions on a forum. Many of us, like myself, don't really have an issue with how things are right now as far as deer hunting goes... just because I have opinions and ideas doesn't mean it matters to me one way or the other if any of them are listened to or implemented. I fight the fights that I think need fighting like gun issues... I really couldn't care less what the DEC does in the way of deer hunting... those days for me are long over... I am all about enjoying my time here on earth and that carries over to my deer hunting. I will always have an opinion and even a few ideas, but those will simply be so that I can get in on the enjoyment of the debates on here and little more. Being an activist for your hobby's takes away a lot of time that you could be just enjoying that hobby... I'll let you young guys do the fighting until you're ready to take your place in the "just enjoy life line" with me when you get a bit older.

  13. Hunting coyotes for sport and fun is way different than hunting them thinking you're doing anything noble to help the whitetail deer... one is definitely persecution in its intent and the other is merely having fun hunting. If for years you have been killing big numbers of coyotes off the same piece of land, that ought to tell you something about the effectiveness as an eradication method.

It has since been confirmed in NY. http://www.earthisland.org/journal/index.php/elist/eListRead/a_new_virus_is_attacking_us_wild_turkey_populations/- Also older, but has a much more through understanding of the virus. In a nutshell, wild turkey populations in NY state, and likely many other states, are carrying this virus. I study similar retroviruses in domestic chickens and can confirm that based on my knowledge, and the research out there on LPDV, that it is an easily transmittable virus that remains in latency (dormancy, if you will) and only produces symptoms in individuals that for whatever reason are either genetically weak or have a reduced immunity to the virus. The virus does not often cause mortality in these individuals, but instead causes a weakened immune system, which is an open door for other problems to move in (ailments that an otherwise healthy turkey would have no problem fighting off). As an RNA virus, once a bird 'catches' it, the virus copies itself and remains in the birds system forevermore, and periodically causes shedding of the virus, causing either horizontal transmission (bird to bird) and/or vertical (parent passes it on to the chick through the egg... vertical transmission is somewhat more rare). So, a large number of birds may be infected but may not show signs and may live full, healthy and otherwise normal lives. If you take a turkey with outward signs, it could be LPDV or pox (neither is contagious to humans) and the DEC is interested in testing so you may want to notify them. I'm mostly posting this here so folks know about it and know what it might be, if they see it.

  20. One of my biggest buck was taken when we only had 9 1/2 acres....the second biggest buck I have seen and could have easily shot was on that same 91/2 acres...but alas he was 10yrds away when I first caught site of him and I nearly passed out...buck fever...a guy nearly 2 miles...well 1 1/2 mile as the crow fly got him a week later...point is, deer travel and they don't look at the size of what ever property they travel through...if deer are in an area then you can see deer..

  21. My view of the question is that the smaller the property, the less the opportunities. Multiple stand sites become limited. Over-saturation of hunting pressure gets to be a problem. And sometimes you just choose the wrong 20 acres where the deer seldom go, which leaves you with a new property with no options. No, I would not buy 20 acres strictly for hunting use. A house site, or land speculation, maybe. But for a hunting parcel, that is truly a gamble.

  24. I have been to almost all of the lower 48 and I would put NY well above all of them. No other state has the beautiful places that we have. I cant stand desert and all them shots of the grand canyon during last nights Super-bowl kept me turning away from the screen. Anywhere South of upper PA is just too damn hot in the summer for me. I look forward to all seasons in upstate NY, spring, summer, fall, and winter. California is a nice place to visit but I would never choose to live there. I certainly would not want to live in a Southern State where it was almost always uncomfortably hot outside in the summer. I also wouldn't want to live and hunt in a state that was inundated with wild hogs. Smallmouth bass rate right up there with whitetail deer with me and no other state can touch the fishing we have here for those. If winter gets to you, then before shipping out to "greener pastures", try taking up some winter sports. Skiing, Snowmobiling, Snow-shoeing, Ice-skating, Ice fishing, etc.. A wood-stove in the house helps a lot also. Making firewood in the winter can be fun. I even enjoy clearing snow out of the driveways. Having good equipment is a necessity for those two jobs however. When my job or family has me travel to those other states, I always look forward to coming home, and I take pity on those poor folks who have to live outside of upstate NY.

  30. Not yet... I always get ridiculus low ball offers there so I haven't taken the time to copy ad over. Picked up an extra tile job that's was a quickie, so I'll use that for some ring+base money. I need base for that rail scope and rings for that Sauer to get it running.....my contact is at Harrisburg show, so I'll order there with a healthy discount.

  31. I see where he is going...if you don't have kids, kind of hard to criticize, or criticize accurately/appropriately the parenting of others because you don't have that experience or expertise to make such statements. The rest of it was his exampling of societal use - poor being lazy/stupid, and so on and so forth. I'm 50-50 on that. If you can put yourself in someone elses shoes and think rationally, you can draw some conclusions in certain situations. Other times, you just can understand untill you've been there.

  35. No YOU don't get it. I'm on your side. I share your views, but not everyone sees the big picture or cares that much. That is my point. I vote republican because I side with their views more than democrats. I still disagree with a lot of their policies. A lot of liberals would give up their guns for social programs and more taxes for the rich. I don't know why it's so hard for some of you to see that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  37. I hunt my friends property in Brunswick and it's less than 5 acres and maybe 1.5 of them are woods. been hunting there for 3 years now and have taken 5 deer and my girlfriend took 1, all with bow.luckily it borders 2 different farms and I have permission to retrieve my deer off their property. talk to the neighbors and make sure it's ok to track and drag deer off their property, ya never know, they might let you hunt there too!!! you don't need a ton of land as long as have deer moving through

  41. Thunnus - All the science says that coyotes evolved to increase reproduction when they are persecuted. This was in response to wolves preying on them. In our world, they react exactly the same way to being hunted. There are always young animals looking for new territories. Older animals - and their family group - establish larger territories and keep the adolescents from moving in and breeding. Killing the older animals opens and fractures territories. The result is, more breeding and no reduction in population. For a century coyotes have been persecuted out west. What has been the result? Read 4 Seasons posts going way back. His relentless persecution has had no positive result. He blames it on Fort Drum, however, it would be no different elsewhere. He will always have too many coyotes. Too many being subjective. Outside the forest preserve, killing coyotes does not help deer. The recent coyote hunting article in the Outdoor News should have been categorized as an opinion piece in making such a claim. Anyone who wants to a quick internet search can find a lot of scientific information on the subject.

  42. Those 4 are from last week of 33 dogs taken, They all get skinned and sold between the group. There will be over 100 taken before winter is over. There are piles of them that get away and run back onto the military base and off limits. These guys run dogs about every day in a 30 mile swath around our farm.
