  1. Picking up my 13 year old grandson after work tonight. This time tomorrow, I'm hoping we will be dragging out his first deer! We will hang out tonight, shoot our bows, get his camo and pack ready, and get up at 4 for breakfast! Then head to the best spot I have on two properties. If the deer are moving at all, they will come through there. .....I hope. If it were to be 20 degrees colder, it would almost be a guarantee. So we will see. God I love making memories with him. Hoping to make a special one tomorrow. Wish us luck guys.

  2. Finally made it up north for the first time all season and have had the greatest hunt of my life. For over an hour I had 3 bull moose 100yds below me in an all out brawl. Could only see glimpses because of the leaves but the sounds alone were unbelievable. They're "grunts" literally shake the ground this close. Brother got the big boy that we had in cam last night. Don't have service enough to get the pics but when I do I'll post them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Enjoy everything about the chase Biz! Its the process, not the end result that really matters! Big buck, no big buck, just have fun. I have to remind myself about that at times.

  10. I decided to hunt a ladder stand which I hadn't been to since last year its been in this maple tree for the better part of ten years and is a good early bow spot.. I walk in the trail and get about half way to the stand and my headlamp catches two pair of eyes watching me off to the right through the trees they don't bust out but watch me walk past and I climb into the stand,, the stand which has shoots of new maple branches 4' long growing around the stand from cut limbs from the previous year,, I spend the better part of ten minutes breaking branches and getting things in somewhat of order so I can hunt it, I settle in and wait till sunrise and let out three light grunts,, ten minutes go by and a three point and croch horn follow the trail I walked in on and make there way across the clearing they end up 15' from my stand,, I wasn't interested in shooting either of them but it was a really neat morning,, they must of thought I was a buck thrashing a tree is all I can figure ...

  12. Moog is lying. I met him. He's 143lbs soaking wet. The pic is deceiving. Due to bad circulation, he is wearing 8 base layers.

  13. Here we go, it's late but that just means I'm hungrier. Apple wood bacon smoked backstrap over some moderate apple smoke. Cooked to internal temp of 135.

  14. 10/19 We went on a track this morning and got nowhere. Last night the hunter shot a 4 pointer with his muzzleloader but had no idea where he hit it. He found some white hair and a blood trail consisting of 3 or 4 drops and we never advanced the track despite several restarts. We went on a track this afternoon for a buck that was shot with a muzzleloader this morning. A light blood trail started about 40 yards from the hit site and went into a nearby swamp. The hunter and his friend had tracked it into the swamp and lost blood at a trail intersection. Luna quickly showed us which trail to follow and took us beyond where they had grid searched. We were in and out of swamp grass, through a small wooded area, under main electrical transmission lines, through a thick area, doubled back under the transmission lines, and went back into the swamp. We’d go a hundred yards or more without seeing blood, then find a drop, which is always nice. A couple times Luna missed a turn, but always self corrected and got back on it. There were deep areas in the swamp and we were walking parallel with one of them when I heard a splash and saw ripples around a curve. A second later I saw antlers and I called up the hunter, who was about 20 yards behind me. He was looking for an opening to shoot when the bucks head went under water and he died shortly thereafter. The buck was in about 6’ of water and Luna was going crazy. I encouraged her to “go get it” and she jumped in and actually moved it a few feet closer to us before swimming back. She went back a second time for another sniff and I was hoping she’d climb on top of it and I could gently pull both of them to shore, but she swam back. I eventually made a loop with my leash and lassoed it. It was sure fun watching Luna’s prey drive turn her from a non swimmer to a swimmer! Field dressing revealed a quartering to shot that caught one lung and guts. There was no exit hole. Sent from my iPhone

  17. Must be nice. I'm sure I have told this story before but in 2000, when I was 16 years old, I missed a 130" 8pt. 5-6 times in Texas (fair-chase hunt) because the scope was jarred and way off. Then my Dad shot him. I was devastated, but at least happy for my Dad. He told me not to worry and that I would get another chance someday at a buck like that. Well 17 years later it has never happened (trail cam or real life). LOL.

  19. Good luck out there today guys. In my neck of the woods, things are starting to fire up. Between the drive home last night and heading to work this morning, I had 5 young bucks blast across the road in front of me. One of them this morning chased a doe right in front of me. Its still gonna be a bit before the big boys join in, but the little ones are always fun to watch. Ill have my butt in the stand tomorrow afternoon.

  32. Well I’m up. Decided to take the climber out. After crunching through the leaves. I made a racket. Fought with the safety strap that kept falling to stand as I pushed it up to climb. Made a ton of noise. Who know. Maybe today is the day I tag one. Oh... and my bow hanger is at a crappy angle. Yay fun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. It really is a nice afternoon. Too warm but a long week at work and I needed some woods therapy. Been in for a little while now. Jumped a nice buck on the way in that kind of bums me out. There was a doe with him and I waited a while and almost got a shot. I wasn’t going to take her but tempted as I’ve never shot one on the ground before. 5 minutes in the stand and a bb so far. By himself which makes me wonder if mom kicked him out already. That would be good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  35. Do what you wish ChrisW ..for some reason what others do bothers you... Thats OK Many a people have tried many a thing in the deer woods and gotten many a deer...HHmmmm I do wonder...was the idea for ever calm and nose jammer and a variety of grunt ,turkey calls ,ect,ect... used in some guys home on his family...or do ya think he took his ideas to the woods and used what ever results he deemed good before the final out come....Please! don't answer that it's rhetorical...

  37. Wife purchased a Cabela's meat slicer and dehydrator for me last year. Grabbed a nicely packed and frozen doe roast from last year and decided to put both tools to the test I gotta say, damn good jerky. Batch of smokehouse and a batch of Hawaiian. Yummy yummy and tender as hell. Only downfall, now I gotta fill the freezer.

  44. I get it from Walmart. Yellow and black spray bottle made by Sawyer. Cost about $9 bucks. Treat your clothes in a well ventilated area. Give a nice even spray covering all layers of the clothes. Let sit for 2 hours(4 if humid). Last for 42 days(if not washed). Keep well away from cats. Very bad for them. Not bad for dogs says sawyer. I called poison control and they said if you get it on ur skin, just wash with soap and water. I watched many videos and the ticks last about 10 seconds then start to drunk walk and eventually fall off and die. I watch a mosquito land on me and it immediately died with its beak still stuck in my pant leg. I have not had a single tick on me at all this season and I've only been in deep woods. Love the stuff. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

  48. The really crappy this is.... it's not even Lyme that's my worry. It's that powesian virus that has been reported in Saratoga county. One bite is all it takes. No having the tick on you for 24-48 hrs. It eats at ur nervous system and then has a very high probability to kill you. No cure. Only treatments. I didn't even wanna go in my own back yard early in the summer.

  49. Wait, youre supposed to put doe estrous on your boots? I thought it was like a 5 hour energy drink for when you go hunting. Always smelled and tasted funny to me, but I kept going with it because I hear about all of the great luck guys have with it. No wonder i never have any luck using scents.
