I had to sneak out in frozen, 10 and doe are still in a small patch of brush. We’re pretty much surrounded by houses so I’m gonna warm up and dry off and slip back in.

You just left the woods with a 10pt in sight?

I’ve seen more bucks moving lately , perhaps a few days away from full on rut . Climbing down , lunch , wash truck, shoot a handgun , nap .

Ground hunt this afternoon for Biz !

Only you take a mid day break to target shoot with a gun while hunting the rut.  lol  Most might be a bit worried about shutting down activity.  Nahhhhh.

Last time after Kathy and I shot, the guy cutting beans , said a buck ran out from behind my range 20 minutes after we left .

Guys are always shooting around here when I’m bow hunting .

Got to condition them ....

Plus wind is at least 30 mph need a break

Got soaked through. Pulled out around noon. Home now, drying out and warming up. Great morning! With two shooter bucks seen, and four young ones! With a little luck and dry weather, I might even fill a tag?

This rainy season, is not making it easy to be out there. But obviously the deer are there. But once the rain became steady today, the chance of a washed out blood trail, along with being uncomfortable myself. Just made calling it a day, the best decision for me.

i am off T-Th and hoping to take something down.  A doe......a deer...... a female deer..... any damn thing!   I have this decent buck on cam at the lease and like 4 small bucks,  other property have seen one real nice buck (while i was parking) and not much else.  Really want one for the freezer regardless,  missed a buck last night.   Not much for horns , but had a big body.  Thought it was a big doe at first.  No idea why i missed it, but missed high.  Maybe cause i am meant to get this guy instead.  Weather of course looks terrible, this season has been the worst.   (date is wrong - it was 10/30)

Was taking my wife out to lunch today at 11:45 and we saw a buck running across a wide open field towards the road. She kept saying, "No, no, no!", but we watched the buck run into the side of a tractor and trailer heading in the opposite direction! Ironically, there was a state trooper right behind the truck! The buck somehow just broke it's back legs and was thrashing around in the road. The trooper said that he had to wait until it got out of the road to put it down. I asked if I could grab it and drag it out, because it was heartbreaking watching it struggle and suffer. He said he was afraid I would get, "Horned". Didn't matter though, I grabbed it and pulled it into the ditch. He put it down then. A guy that stopped behind me wanted the deer, so at least it didn't go to waste.

Well,i almost got it done from the ground!!! I was sneaking over a hill and caught a decent buck getting up and repositioning himself. I was Maybe 70 yds away and the wind was coming from the side. I glassed him and he was an eight point 2.5 year old i think.

I managed to put a tree between us close to him and snuck to maybe 30 yds, then i made the mistake of keeping his body instead of his head behind the tree and he saw me. Game over...

I should have slowed down for the last 10 yards, but my adrenalin got the better of me...It was pretty exciting though.

All the right conditions, but an uneventful morning sit anyway.  It was nearly dead calm.  Oh well, it still beat working on a Monday morning!  I'll pass on tomorrow with the rains and see what I can carve out for Wed or Thur.

You are banned from using this phrase again until you put one down from the ground.  And I don't mean by using one of those cheater blinds.  Manly spot and stalk only.

EDIT - we will also accept shooting one from the ground while changing at the truck a la Tacks!

Got some unfortunate news last night. The big buck that I was and everyone in the area was chasing was illegally shot October 7th with a rifle. The guy who shot it was the neighbor of my property. The guy didnt even take the body, just the head. He seriously pissed off all the hunters in the area as it was using the properties pretty regularly. I asked the guy if it was the deer that was shot and he said someone else shot it and it wasnt the deer I was talking about. At this point I dont think its worth calling the DEC as there isnt much they can do about it now that the coyotes have cleaned up the evidense, but there is a picture of him with the deer so I don't know what to do. The neighbor who told me didnt want to call the cops and caue drama, but he was ready to shot up at the guys door and handle buisness himself. The worst part is the guy who shot the deer, told me a week ago he was planning on buying a license and was going to rifle hunt this year. What a shame because the deer had to go 140 or better. The neighbor who showed me the pictures and told me everything said he was told that the guy who shot the deer is one of the most crooked hunters out there. Hes been busted doing some very bad things.

If you know where the killsite is and have a picture of him with the deer I’d call. If he doesn’t have a bow or x bow tag that’s one fine right there. Plus they can search the kill site with a metal detector and maybe find a bullet or a shell casing... that is if they care that much

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
