Anyone see any poults yet?

Breeding started around mid April, so it's getting close to that time. 

I've seen a couple hens in different fields today just standing and scanning the area. Very possible they had little ones around. 

Hopefully the wet weather will let up.

In a study done by DEC  on Connneticut  Hill quite a few years ago, the average hatching date in NY was June 13....

There certainly could be some peeps running around out there by now...

I saw my first fawn of the season today....

I'm sure a few clutches of eggs have been ruined by the horrible weather we've had. Early hatchings are definitely in for a challenging time.

Early yet, Jay....the critical  weeks for poult survival are the second, third and forth weeks of June...If they are relatively  dry and warm,  the hatch should be good....

I am sure some nests get drowned out, but most hens instinctively know to pick nest areas with good drainage..

The killer  of  turkeys poults is wet, cool weather in their first two or three weeks after hatching, when they are still in the down stage...if they get wet and chilled at this stage, they are very susceptible to  pneumonia...

Once they get feathers and are able to roost off the ground,  they are much less in danger of death via wet weather...

Generally...a warm, dry June equals a decent turkey hatch/ poult survival...

No poults but I did find two nests being sat on and full of eggs while getting caught up on some orchard mowing the last two days.

Ive seen one hen with 2 of them every morning on my way home from work under someones bird feeders for the last week.

Yep.  Back yard, two times a day like clockwork.  They cruise under my big fruit and pick up the berries the squirrels and the cedar waxwings drop.

Cedar waxwings are beautiful birds. I only saw them once at my house upstate. I’m not sure if they where just passing threw or nest up there.

Turns out those little poults can fly already!  Was watching them pop up into the tree to get at the berries there.  Which makes sense, doubt they'd want to spend a night on the ground.

The hen nesting in my back yard has been sitting 24/7 since may 25, they hatched on friday 6-21! 10 maybe 11 poults total! I'll post some videos once i figure out how!

This past spring's rainy-wet-cold weather could not have been much worse for young Turkey poults, will probably prove to be a poor hatch-survival rate. Have a Hen wandering around my place most of the Spring, stopped seeing her about a month ago and suspected she was sitting on a nest of eggs. She turned up the other day wandering around scratching for food with no poults in tow so she most likely nested unsuccessfully.

I've seen a few hens with poults.  One flock had 3 hens and the little ones were scattering all over the place.  Had to be 20+.   Seen one hen with 4, then two... Haven't seen em since.

Was doing a little brush hogging tonight and had two hens come out of the goldenrod and ran down the mowed trail for a hundred yards or so straight away from me. No poults.

Saw my first group of poults this week. Usually I've seen more than a handful of hens with poults by now....

I haven’t seen many here, but I did see these 5 and their Momma walk past my cam tonight.

Saw 1st poults on camera yesterday..maybe 7 to 10 days old.. product of 3rd nesting attempt I'm sure. They will be lucky to be 5lbs come fall...
