Smoke free for two weeks as of today! I'll be cutting back on the nicotine content over the next few weeks and hopefully be done by bow season. Yee-ha!4 points

Well the Bass Pro that is going into Victor is a Flagship store. That means one of the big ones that is much bigger than Auburn. Add Cabelas in Buffalo and Field And Stream in Henrietta, and I give Gander less than a year before that sign is for real. It will be a 75% going out of business sale.3 points

Nothing great, but it's the one and only buck I've gotten pics of so far this year! Coming out of a thicket and is ~7 yards from one stand.2 points

I thought we were talking about buck hunting, not your Friday night bar standards...lol2 points

Again, you are confusing the two components. Hunter choice and enforcement. IF the DEC were really concerned, there would be changes in the way they manage the population. Instead, they keep kicking up the same old system. Let's add another XX% to the XX% we issued last year. They did this once before in the last decade and the deer numbers came crashing down. This is showing they haven't learned anything from that mistake - which they admitted. Words on paper and actions taken are very different. If someone wants to pass a doe and hold out for a buck, so be it. Your take on it is just as skewed as theirs.2 points

They do this on Long Island. Shoot a doe and go back for a new permit. They are more than happy to give them out. You have to bring the deer to the DEC station. They look it over and weigh it. Years past we would wait on the does and not shoot for a number of reasons. For the last few years I tell my gang shoot the first nice doe you see. This is important for hunters who travel a distance to their camp. You never know when you hold out on those permits and then it happens that you can't make it back to camp or all you see is yearlings. Opening morning by 10:00 we had three doe and one buck hanging.2 points

Really bow hunters in general need to shoot more doe, seems everyone waits for a good buck...thus enter the crossbow... I know a lot of hunter that report doe take when tags are not filled(thinking they are helping the herd.) Lots of deer is not a good thing.. again DMP are issued to a large area dmu's. If your local herd is suffering don't shoot a doe.. you can manage your own area better than the Dec, if you stay within the law using permits available. My own place I try to get 10 doe removed every year..keeps population stable. If i have to I invite more people in, especially muzzloader to hit that number . Deer move and they are not your deer..I have bucks I have multiple pictures of get shot on neighboring properties. To minimises thaI leave a sanctuary or. But I don't get mad if a deer wanders off my property ...everyone buys a licence and is entitle to shoot what they are happy with.2 points

One of The Mermaid's flower beds had a bumper crop of garter snakes this year. She wanted me to kill'em, but I refused. So far I have caught six of them, including a BIG ol feller, and transplanted them. I've been turning them loose on my ex-wife's property...<<GRIN>>....2 points

Not a big guy, but a decent one for the area behind my house. It will be easy to recognize him with the single brow tine!1 point

The 700 trigger is really a pretty good, finely adjustable trigger if adjusted properly by someone who knows what he is doing, all factory practices( like laquering the adjustment screws) aside.1 point

So I received a ad from gander in the mail last week and saw that that had a savage trophy hunter 111 with scope combo for 400 bucks after a mail in rebate. So I went in to gander yesterday to see if they had any. First off I don't like gander at all but I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong. I want a new 223 so I figured I couldn't beat the deal. Well after standing a the gun counter for 45 minutes trying to locate the gun. (Why can't gander have a better price tag system on their guns) a guy finally comes over. I tell him what I want. He grabs a savage that's 579.00 I tell him that's not right. Well he gets an ad and looks it up and tells me oh you can only get those in 270 and 30-06. Well after that I was pretty fed up. Only 2 more weeks till cabelas opens1 point

I think while he makes good points when he debates, and you can't accuse him of not being outspoken, he does it in such a way that regardless of what he's actually saying he alienates a lot of people who are undecided. I think you can make the points he makes in a more diplomatic way and accomplish a lot more in terms of public opinion. Whether we like it or not, that's what's going to determine the future of gun/hunting rights. That being said, Stranglehold is about the only song of his I can listen to.1 point

I like Sixpoint's stuff but whatever you do DO NOT drink their RAD !!! My first drainpour. Looks like OJ and tasted like grapefruit juice and vomit . Keep your eyes open for Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp asst 12 pack compilation due to arrive in NY any day. It includes a lot of breweries that normally won't sell by law in NY. Russian River, Cigar City, New Glarus, Three Floyds, etc. Very limited but heard great things about it .1 point

Didn't mean to offend anyone in particular. Other than my sister-in-law, who doesn't hunt, and isn't quite 375lbs, but is still definitely a lard butt. Took her along on vacation with us a couple weeks back, and the only time she gets off her tuff is when it's time to go to the table to eat. She can make it to the food in world record time. Otherwise, she won't move her fat a$$ if you paid her.1 point

For me the process is this fast: - Ass relative to shoulders - belly relative to brisquit - I don't think a particular age I think mature or not. And then it's no or go....btw I'll shoot what I make for a 2 yr old on public land if he is nice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I think it boils down to too many people not shooting enough Doe's. The @6% return on DMP is wimpy. What do you expect? Shrinking hunter numbers does this also. The ones that go once to hope to fill a tag make a difference. Try to enforce a doe first rule and watch MORE people quit hunting.1 point

For the life of me, I can't see xbows bringing too many people into the sport. If any, it will literally be only a handful of people which will be insignificant in the scheme of things. Most of the people who will take up xbows will be gun hunters, who somehow think xbow hunting will make things easier for them in comparison to compound bows. Many will probably give it up after a few years when they find out it wasn't as easy as they first thought. LOL I completely agree with your second point. If anyone really thinks the DEC gives one hoot if the buck you kill is a 10 point compared to a spike, you are sadly mistaken. The antler restriction garbage is nothing but a pacifier to the cry babies who can't kill a decent buck and think AR's will be their salvation.1 point

Anyone know of a food for the hungry place that accepts deer donations in Erie/ niagara county? I pass plenty of doe's cause it's just me, don't need that much meat!1 point

I don't think I've ever seen a store OTHER THAN Gander Mountain with a banner as large with that type of deceptive ad stating 75% off. Like mentioned, good luck finding anything useful at that discount. Oh, maybe some old marshmallow peanuts or size 6 men's Guide Wear POS boot........... Lord I can't stand that place. I wonder if they ever see these reviews regarding their store? You know some of the employees must frequent this forum........wish they'd chime in.1 point

Nice photos. Sometimes those hard to get to spots hold some great hunting, good luck to you this fall!1 point

I think a big part of the problem is deer move to area's where hunting is not allowed or is on posted private property.1 point

Had a few come around my yard and feed from my feeder. I started growing a Clematis vine with purple flowers indoors in April and it just bloomed last weekend. Hoping it will attract more of those lttle buzzing birds. They represent eternal life and good health.1 point

Yeah, 8N is taking another jump. I'm beginning to wonder if permit numbers really mean anything anymore. It seems that even when they issue more, the herd size keeps going up. Could there be a saturation point where higher permit numbers do not equate to higher deer takes? That would be a scary thought.1 point

Thats where calling comes in I know I told the story of Dicks and a Mossberg 20ga they had in a flyer on sale...wrong price really low around 200 with tax ...I called and asked 3 different ppl. one a manager if they had the 20ga and if the price in add was correct...for I was driving a long ways with 2 small kids...No problem...until I got there and went to check out...something like a 100.00 dollars more...I started out nice...2ppl later not so much...by the time I saw the manager I was causing such a seen he said give it to her for the ad price and get her out of here....Yep I do like calling ahead and making sure I get names...lol Ohhhh PS they claimed the ad had wrong price printed...why thats just too bad...lol1 point

I carried the full sized M&P 45 for the last 10 years of my career. It replaced the S&W 4566 that I loved. I wasn't crazy about the M&P because of the safety that was added as a CYA by my Dept. If your thumb just touched the safety, while firing, the gun would go back on safe and you would think you had a malfunction. The shield is a different story. Great gun.1 point

I'm seeing a normal number of 'em it seems. Stopped the mower the other day to let a good-sized brown make his escape toward my woodpile. Better him in there than the mice! A really pretty corn snake has taken up residence somewhere in or around my tool shed. Again, better than the mice by a long shot. Guess I should start carrying the camera when I go to grab a chainsaw or something so I can get a photo to post. I'll put a warning on the pic, though. I wouldn't want to be responsible for a cardiac incident here.1 point

Damn,I live 3 minutes from the Paramount. I would have went. Yes, He has some issues and a past. However, He is a positive spokesmen for the the right to bear arms and gives an educated response to anti's who are trying to take your right to hunt away. As far as what the "General Public" thinks,Those same people think Obama is a God. He does a ton of work for Wounded Warriors and Vet groups.1 point

So now we know! We've had Four Seasons Whitetail and some other members here telling us how great the hunting is down in those gorges at Letchworth. Those guys probably go down there and pick up all the casualties. And there they were trying to BS us with stories that they actually shot those deer themselves! LOL1 point

That's awesome man! I haven't had a ciggy since I started this post back on the 6'th and I was a hardcore chain smoker.(close to 2pcks/day) I've been hitting the 20mg nicotine oils to start with and that curbs my urges just fine. Nice thing about these e-ciggs is you just take a few drags when you get the urge and you're not committed to smoking an entire cigarette. Some of these flavors are delishious, lol. So far I've tried the tobacco flavor, strawberry mango, grape, and swordfish. The D-90 is a nice camera a lot of photogs are still using! Ggood luck!1 point
