Everyone seems to have a hit list of a deer for their photos, I am over here all excited about this woodpecker3 points

I got smart the second time around and married a woman whose father hunts. They practically push him out the door to me when gun season rolls around and act like I'm doing them a favor, lol.2 points

Just as long as the wife can accept our hunting, that's all that really matters. She need not love it, nor should we be upset if she doesn't want to hunt. I for one am happy that she doesn't hunt. Would only complicate things in my honest opinion. Without her I don't hear any complaining from anyone about anything. If she was with me I'm sure she'd find something to complain about. And my wife isn't even a big complainer about many things at all, but as we all know, it don't take women too long to find something to complain about. LOL Us hunters should also understand, that a wife and family should be put BEFORE hunting. We should expect some understanding from their end, BUT if hunting is always put first and they a distance second, then things surely won't work and they have every right to let us know about it.2 points

Nice buck, most NY hunters would be proud of getting something like that. Would be nice to let him spread his genes but to say I would not shoot him would be a lie. I think what some are saying is this: Do not put a deer on your hit list because you are thinking your neighbor will shoot him. That is just selfish. Put him on your hit list because he is a nice deer and you would be happy to take him and would be proud to show off his beauty.2 points

I look at it this way....spouses are never going to be 100% happy, no matter what. Sure, I get grief about the money & time I spend in the woods, as well as comments about the managerie gracing the walls of my home. Does she get over it? Sure, eventually. Lots of things Mrs. does get on my nerves too. I'm not interested in hanging out with her & the ladies from church, or going shopping, mine has no interest in getting up at the crack of dawn to climb a tree or chase turkeys. I'm not a professional guide, so hunting & fishing are a hobby. There's more to a marriage than spending 24/7 together, joined at the hip. Maybe it's the old-school environment I was brought up in, but we've got 25 years, and neither is going anywhere. Works fine for us.2 points

I agree with some of the points that have been made, but everyone needs to cool down. We don't need to sing Kumbaya or anything, but there are ways to make the same point without sounding like a jerk. Personally, I wouldn't shoot that buck because he is young. A neighbor might shoot him and then again maybe he'll make it to next year, that's just the chance I would take.2 points

I can never get over the guys who have wives that don't have issues with their hunting, but are still upset that the wife don't want to hunt with them. I can assure them that it's a blessing. Why the hell get upset over someone not wanting to participate in something you participate in, if she doesn't have a problem with YOU participating in it? You've got the best of both worlds then. There may be a few women on this forum who are hunters, but statistically there are not many women that hunt. In general it is not something most women care to participate in, and I don't see the stats getting too much better on that front. Heck, we can't even get young males interested in it anymore, so why should we expect women to get into hunting?1 point

Which means I'm not hunting. That's why I like it better that she doesn't hunt. So far our arrangement is that I get one day out of the weekend to hunt and she gets the other day to do her own stuff while I watch the baby but she chooses to use her "free" day to spend time with me and the baby. Win-win for me.1 point

If my wife hunts, who's watching the baby? Guess it's better that she doesn't hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I believe there are 2 units in CT where you can hunt over bait all season long. 1 of the units is either all or most of Fairfield County Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Many archers can hit 50+ yards every time. Because YOU can't THEY shouldn't? Not to mention nobody mentioned shooting a deer at that range. I have a 50 and 60 yard pin and shoot at those ranges. It's FUN! No I have never shot a animal at that distance. However my brother did put a second arrow in a deer ay 55 yards. He could because he practiced it.1 point

Oh I have standards but I have to lower them to my neighbors. Then you have no standards. Standards is passing a buck that does not meet them. I passed a decent 6 one year because it was not what I wanted. A half hour later my neighbor shot him. If he was happy I was happy. But to be greedy and compromise what you say is your standards is hypocritical. Then to attack others for saying that is at best lame. You say he is on your hit list but does not meet your standards. are you seeing the silliness in what you are saying yet? Just say you do not want to admit that you want to take that deer, but you are afraid people will razz you for taking it. Grow a pair1 point
-
You don't have a standard if you are willing to compromise that standard... for the record that buck might just get taken by your neighbors anyway before you even get a chance to see him during the season... kill him because he's a beautiful buck.. not because it bothers you that other hunters might kill him first... and if they do I would shake their hand for having taken such a nice deer. Don't get rapped up in all this he'll be better next year crap... he's either on your "hit list" or he's not.1 point
-
Ok so he does not meet your standards, but you will shoot him anyway to keep the neighbors from getting him. Sounds like your standards are ok to shoot a small deer too. So there is no difference. If you truly mean what you say, you will let him walk. Now lets see who has their standards in order. Nice deer btw.1 point
-
I'm kinda rooting for your neighbors to tag him. It sounds like they may appreciate that animal for what he already is right now. I hate to see anyone settle for anything less than what they truly want. That's just the way I read a post like this when a guy starts making excuses for killing a buck like this before he even has him in his sights.1 point
-
I think that there is a place for both... I like being with the guys at camp, and I enjoy time with my sons while hunting... but my favorite "hunting" .. I mean where I am really focused on finding and killing a nice buck... that is done best alone in my opinion... I am able to really concentrate on what I'm doing without worrying about anything or anybody else.1 point

I got to say that there is definitely something to hunting alone as well. I love my wife and with a child on the way I know my time in the woods in the future may be limited. Or it may not! I rarely make overnight trips it just requires more driving to get home but she has been amazing with letting me go whenever I want. There is definitely something to hunting alone anyhow. I enjoy the time I get out in the woods. I brought some non hunting friends on some trips before and while it was fun it wasn't the same! When I go into the woods. THOSE ARE MY WOODS! ITS MY TIME. Back home its her time but when I step out of that truck and enter the woods its MY TIME! I love her to death but sometimes a man needs to think, run around, be free, naked, and alone in the woods lol jk no but seriously it reminds me of that movie goonies when they are in the water well and I friggin quote Mikey: "Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket" So enjoy your time in the woods. If you can get the misses to come along then great! If not remember you are there for you. You work hard enough. Take time to smell the bear poo and enjoy some private time alone with your thoughts and the adventure of the great outdoors!1 point

What make you think you can shoot 60yd's at a 9” target with a hunting head with only 3 weeks before the season. Try 20 or 30 yards first I'm willing to bet you haven't shot more then 50 arrows in the last year.1 point

Fortunately, The Mermaid is an old farm girl and grew up with the knowledge that meat comes from real live animals. Her dad raised and slaughtered his own cows, pigs and chickens, and he was an avid hunter besides. She prefers venison over beef. She is not interested in killing anything herself, but she enjoys eating the game and fish that I bring home.1 point

If you watch politics closely like I said people remember what is said last not first. That is why the prosecution always goes last in closing arguments. the true campaigning begins in mid october. Never play all your cards the first time around the table. On SEPTEMBER 7th Astorino is doing a one day across the state rally. He is starting ib buffalo with a rally there then in Syracuse and on to Albany where a huge gathering is planned at 1PM. he has said much about how the safe act was passed and how he plans to defund it in much detail if elected, which essentially shuts it down in . He is traveling by vehicle on the thruway and the plan is to flood the thruway with vehicles essentially shutting it down also. Look it up on his website and pan to go to a stop. I stopped placing these informational posts and the proportion of political ads was too high for most. Why do you think Cuomo is doing such a smear campaign? One simple reason he is nervous for his job. The same reason he hid in a building at the fair and does not announce where he will be. So he is not met with the opposition that makes him look bad. To throw in the towel now is just simply wrong. But hey I am seeing more and more complacency. All I can say is wait until January if he gets re elected. Then I will sit back and say I told you so even though I will suffer the wrath just as much.1 point
