Imagine the hissy fit LIL King Andy would have if tons of people started posting pics of themselves posing with checks made out to Astarino or with the new gun they bought with the money. LOL!!5 points

They bait and cheat because they couldn't kill a deer any other way. They are not hunters, they are poachers, liars, cheaters, and scum.3 points

Any ethical hunter regards this illegal activity repugnant.. But when you get so worried about what the OTHER guy is doing that it takes away from your own enjoyment of the sport, well..There's something sad about that....3 points

They didn't stop him because they didn't actually see him take anything, and by law they can't accuse him of stealing nor can they stop him from leaving. I know because I work for a big box store and unfortunately those are the rules. Yes...the rules suck!! The reason the manager didn't chase him is because if the kid was to get hit by a car running through the parking lot it would become a major law suit for the store and the manager.3 points

All different levels of bowhunters out there. The only one I worry about is me. I do my best, and can't ask for anything more than that.3 points

If it makes you feel any better I am sure Belo's taxes cover his own child's costs. Yours goes to pay for the ones that are on welfare.2 points

Who you kidding..... those things have already been photographed, framed, and are already hanging on some happy camo clad hunters wall just waiting to be spread all over hunting sites like this one!2 points

Funny this topic comes up. Since I'm a full time student now I spend a lot of time around young immature kids (thrilling I know). I've become "friends" with a few of them and last week we were talking about bow hunting. This one kid asks if I was excited about bow season and I said yeah I've been shooting a few hundred times a week. He instantly replied with yeah, I still need to get arrows, broadheads, and shoot my bow. But I'll probably just go a couple days before and get them and go out. I immediately told him that was an extremely poor decision. I convinced him and another kid to get their bows and meet me at Bass Pro after school. I then had them bring their bows over so we could shoot. We started at 10 yards and it was pitiful, literally couldn't hit a 6" circle. So over the course of 2 hours we made adjustments to their bows, form, and draw style. By the end of the session they were putting 6/6 arrows inside 6" at 20 yards and 4/6 arrows inside 6" at 30. I suggested to them to practice at least once a week starting in August. They were pretty grateful and said nobody had ever helped them shoot before and that they just took the course, picked up bows, and started hunting. I was happy to help and glad I did. To think they were basically just going to go out without practicing.2 points

The funniest thing about this post is the SAME topic, was posted by the SAME guy, last year around the SAME time. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/18373-paper-plate-archers-in-full-effect-today/?hl=%2Bpaper+%2Bplate+%2Barchers+%2Bfull+%2Beffect+%2Btoday There's also a post in last years "Live from the stand 2013" from the SAME guy talking about his own complete miss. Not exactly what you'd expect from one of our "top echelon archers" as he refers to them.....so maybe some guys need to take their own own advice before opening their mouths and being so critical of others abilities. BTW- I still need to google what a pugilist is. I might be one and I don't even know it!2 points

just to add..my personal feeling : attaching any number to a rack is the worse thing in modern hunting times... if your happy with it take it. way to much time worrying about what a rack will score. if its in the top 10% size wise in your area its a trophy.2 points

If you know that certain people are doing this sort of thing and have any sort of evidence, eye witness accounts, or anything that is actionable by the DEC, call them on the TIPP line http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/393.html You can be the eyes and ears that they, with their diminished numbers, need to enforce those laws that you want these creeps to live by.2 points

So two young guys....obviously new to archery and hunting......and instead of offering pointers and encouraging them you felt the need to go on the internet and belittle them. Nice going champ..........you must be the grand archery champion2 points

don't people with children under 16 already get a child tax credit when they file their taxes? I have kids and will be getting this life changing $350.00, but something seems out of wack......1 point

You're the one complaining. You're freaking out over $300 when parents pay something like $300k to raise a child.Don't be upset about our choice to continue the human race and I won't be upset about your choice not to.1 point

So im in gander mountain with my 6yr old son just looking around. I just got done looking at the t cam as this kid comes over to them. My son takes me a row over to show me a bow he see's. I then notice the kid walking funny towards the bathrooms and I see something stuffed under his shirt. So I start looking around for an employee and I see one walking around. So I go over and tell him what I saw he says thanks and starts talking on his radio. So I went up into the fishing dept to kinda wait and see what happens and I see the kid walking towards the front exit. I hear the manager say can I help you, the kid says no, the manager says are you sure, follows the kid out the door the kid takes off running with 2 new t cams & the manager just watches. I cant believe they didn't just confront him in the store, its amazing they just let you go. Man if I didn't have my son with me I would have freaking Chuck Norris'ed his a@@. Nothing I hate more than a thief.1 point

lets not forget that we don't have kids in the system and still pay school taxes just like the ppl getting checks...Paula ...just like welfare rewarded more money for more kids....nothing against parents....just the system1 point

Very well put! You are absolutely correct that hunting is not for everyone. I always get a kick out of new fathers who buy their kids a gun before they could walk and a lifetime hunting license before they could write their names. Like they are absolutely sure that the kid will love to hunt. All one could do is expose the kid to hunting, but it's FAR from a given that the kid will want to make it a lifetime pastime. Actually the odds are against it, since the majority of society does not hunt.1 point

When technology takes the place of living a life, there is no balance. And that is what I see happening. We have people who can't even walk without collisions because they have become so engrossed in their latest techno-gadget that they zone out of life completely. We have kids that are atrophying into large lumps of fat because they are enslaved with the deluge of video games. Technology has it's place, but when it gets so addictive that it starts pulling the users away from reality and the experiencing of life, something is going wrong.1 point

The video is not very hunter friendly. I can understand getting frustrated at the kid to take a shot, but I know that if not ready or unsure on taking the shot, It is better to let the kid make that call. If the kid's brother finished him off with a shot, was the brother a youth hunter too? My son has had two opportunities to drop a deer last year, but he was unsure on a backstop on one and uncomfortable at the distance for the other, 100-120 yards. Better safe than sorry, and you have to make the right call for yourself. Seeing game and not having a good shot that you are comfortable taking, is still a good day out hunting. My daughter just asked me the other last night about going hunting with me. I told her she is not old enough to actually hunt, but I can take out with me and she will need to try to be quiet while hunting. I let her know the there are classes that you have to take in order to get a license and there are age restrictions on what you can hunt as a youth. Also told her she would need to practice shooting with a real gun before ever going hunting. Will have to see what a trip or two out with her does first before taking classes. She is good at spotting things, is the first one to jump into a stream, and dives right into a pumpkin to rip out the "guts" to make a jack-o-lantern.1 point

Real men play by the rules. Real hunters hunt by the code. Honor the code and respect yourself.1 point

I agree it is a serious issue; however, in the grand scheme of things, you can't let it breed jealousy or hate and let it take away from your enjoyment of playing by the rules. If you see it, report it; otherwise, focus on how you can score the big bucks the right way.1 point

So here we go again. Somebody starts a thread about seeing a couple of guys who were apparently ill-prepared to be bowhunting and it is instantly labeled as being "bickering between hunters". There is no bickering going on in this thread. It is simply the expression of an opinion that some people are not concerned enough with their shooting proficiency. I have no idea how widespread this inadequacy is, but if we cannot agree that shooting proficiency is an important part of bowhunting without considering that "bickering between hunters", then the sport is really in big trouble and apparently we cannot discuss anything without it being considered "bickering".1 point

I am a fairly new archery hunter ( just don't get out much) never connected on a shot. I am trying to understand why shooting with a modern compound bow is hard. All the new sights releases and all the other add ons really make it a point and shoot. Hunting is a different story I'll give you that just drawing with a deer in range alone is a task. But the shooting part imo is pretty straight forward and I don't understand why anyone would need to shoot 100s if not 1000s of arrows down range. I don't shoot that much with anything and am incredibly confident with all my weapons of choice. I'm not trying to start a argument I am asking why would I ot anyone need to shoot thay much. Seems like 15-20 shots consistently in the bull at the desired range a few times before season would be more than enough...if I am missing something please inform me1 point

He doesn't get blood in his truck. He has a slide out, carpeted drawer instead of a truck bed, with various compartments for bows, guns, accessories, etc. Might I add, he has to open several drawers to find a can of bug spray that he forgot he bought to store in the drawer. He carries tarps to wrap the baby deer up in. He gets cold easy too, but that's just because he forgets gloves or gets wet. Sheesh. I can't talk much. Moog will throw out some dirt on me I am sure. At least I can sit all day.1 point

Do yourself a favor and buy a Vector Grunt tube. He's out of Missouri and his grunt tubes are pha-freaking-nominal. Vince is a good guy and you'll get a high quality call that works. I've killed bucks directly as a result of the call, young ones, and mature ones. I've also had more close calls than I care to count with it. I rarely pimp a product unless I am in belief it works. This one ranks right up there with the best hunting tool I have.1 point

It'll be my first time in the woods as a non-smoker in about 40 years. That alone has got me pumped up. I'm excited. Best of luck to everyone!1 point
