  2. Killed an 8pt buck tonight. I'm going to be crippled up as I had a long uphill drag and I swore I'd never drag another. He's probably a 2.5 year old I'm guessing. I'll pull the lower jaw and see what the DEC has to say about it. One of the biggest bucks weight wise I've ever killed, actually the third heavyset I think, he dressed out at 172 lbs. The drag was about 200 yards. I took this pic as soon as I found him, no hero shots in the field. I'll grab some pics for the contest tomorrow.

  4. Picked up my Lynx this weekend. As always, I'm very happy with the work Kurt Fox did. Pics taken on my cell and do no justice compared to real life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. To begin, let me apologize for my ignorance in posting pictures.. However, today's pull from my trailcam is worth talking about. It has been about a 10 days since I've checked it, and I think I have the greatest variety of wildlife that I have ever had in such a short time.. I have numerous deer ( does and 3 or 4 bucks) 8 or 10 turkeys, a grey fox, NUMEROUS coons, a porcupine, a possum, a bear and two coyotes( both coyotes in the same frame). About the only thing missing that I have had in the past is a bobcat, and perhaps WOOLY in his shorts... There is a scrape in the view, and I have pictures of several bucks and a couple of does working the licking branch. Cool stuff.

  9. 9 point I took on state land in southern 9P on 10/16. Sitting in the middle of a bunch of oaks, he came out with two minutes left before sunset. Saw a total of 8 deer and a bear that day. First bear I've seen with my own eyes, awesome night. Barred owls talking like crazy as the day came to a close. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Unless it was chewing on rocks I'd say 4, maybe older. Hard to tell very accurately past 4.

  12. All I know is that this deer has a nicer set of teeth than I've seen on some hunters. LOL

  13. After 3 years hunting some land of mine up here, I finally spotted a buck. I normally only see does up here. That's a long time to wait, and today that had to end. I took this crotch-horn with a muzzleloader and ended that drought! Takes a lot of pressure off the rest of the season. I swear this is the hardest place I have ever hunted in my life lol!

  14. prices really don't seem that outrageous to me.......especially for something you can walk away from at the end of the year if you're not happy.

  15. You are wrong. I lease with Cotton Hanlon. Grab a 100 acre lease and split with 4 guys and you have a pretty affordable place to hunt. You will also have a place to use 12 months out of he year, not just a hunting season lease. So, not to be rude, but you don't know what you are talking about.

  19. Funny you say that.. there were a couple hills that were so steep that I would take 2 steps and he would drag me back 3 because of the slippery leaves... my buddy Paul would actually grab the rack with his crippled hands and help just enough to take the edge off so I could pull him up the hill... the buck would pull me back down the hill a ways a few times and we would stand there laughing and joking how he just wasn't ready to leave the woods and was fighting back. It would have sucked if I didn't have a friend there for comedy relief.

  22. Snuck up within 8 yards of this 8-point feeding just of a trail in ADK's Fulton County in the pouring rain... had to wait about a minute before I could get a shot at his shoulder... My biggest muzzleloader buck with patch & round ball... I was dreading the drag out, but it wasn't too bad at 2 hours... I just love the big woods

  23. All I can say is that I will take my chances. My perforations are all over the place so i cut them with scissors to make sure my numbers are there. Now, I have to worry about the ink coming off. A guy at work checked his today, and lo and behold, his are almost blank now. What a joke. I will not be spending more time getting more tags. I paid my money, I am on record, and I will put my tags, as is, on my deer. Piss poor attitude, I know, but I am sick of the crap that goes on with our state government and its agencies.

  24. I use Sawyers Permethrin on my outer layers. Only had 1 tick on pant leg so far after going out 1-2 days per week since the start of southern zone early bear season. Some places are known tick areas I was in, like Stewart State Forest. Even for warmer weather I still layer - moisture-wicking shirt and pants. Outer-layer pants are tucked into my boots, then laced up to help keep the ticks off. Hit the wrists and neck with some Deet to prevent crawling under the cuff or collar of my shirt. Peel off outer layers and inspect them - removing anything on them (ticks, burrs, seed pods, thorns) before heading home.

  25. You guys are going to hate me, I say that term all the time, I am a DEER Hunter, I don't shoot this years deer, however I will shoot a spike or a doe opening morning. I have never eaten Horn soup or Tag soup, but I heard its not that great. I have sat in the stand for days and not seen a deer, so when the opertunity presents itself I put food on the table first. I also hunt with my son so just being with him and the numerous memories in the stand make it all worth while.

  28. I'd guess they would replace them for a small fee and no you won't have to re apply. I bet King Andy might have a different view of it though..........

  29. Just fill them out with you Cap'n Crunch invisible ink pen, and make copies of them on your etch-a-sketch. DEC officials have special de-coder rings, glasses, and scanners to keep track of your harvests this way. They are aware these plastic tags suck and are fully prepared to handle issues such as this!

  31. Without a doubt I stick with Muzzy! I have had good luck with Muzzy. I prefer the 3 blade to the 4 blade. I shoot 100 grain. As we hear over and over, its comes down to preference and accuracy, they will all do their job when the shot goes where intended. I like how muzzy fly and I won't shoot mechanicals just because of that. Anything with moving parts, i.e., not fixed, will have a chance of not working as planned. You hear from time to time of someone recovering an arrow saying, it didn't deploy or open correctly. My worry is quartering shots, when bone gets in the way. With that said, mechanicals leave tremendous blood trails but I can say so do muzzy. They all work, they all fail. Most importantly, practice as much as possible, use new broad heads, and take responsible manageable shots and recovery percentages will climb significantly.

  35. 10/18/14 Hooked up with a couple of friend whom I helped set a bunch of stands. Saw 2 bucks and about 10 doe on the highway going to the hunting grounds. My first time hunting this area, no sightings from me, one other hunter saw one deer. Predicting good movement tonight for my buddy Joe who is heading out to check some open area I saw on Google maps. Looking forward to tomorrow morning. My other buddy Al saw a 350-400lb Black bear a few minutes ago, called and you can tell he was rattled from his sleep, lmao. Bet a million he will be awake the rest of the day! Good luck to ya AL! My other buddy Tom got his first deer, CONGRATULATIONS Tom on your first deer!

  36. The cop in the picture is a lousy shot. He figures that the supressor might let him get off 5 or 6 shots before the bad guy knows he's being shot at.

  37. The only way this guy could be caught is with some type of thermal cameras used from an aircraft. Then they might be able to pinpoint where this piece of garbage is. Hopefully he will be dragged out of the woods like a gutted deer.

  38. Yea, this guy is for real. They found soiled diapers along with some of his supplies. You know who craps their pants on purpose?? Snipers, when they are laying motionless for hours on end. Pretty sure that's what this guy is doing. Evades the police then buries himself. You'd have to walk right over him to find him.. Read one article that said he got jumped by search dogs but evaded and disappeared again. That's a dangerous game for police. .

  40. Even if we as hunters know the laws it still becomes a problem if the enforcers of those laws don't know them... although you may be in the right, it is possible that you still might be ticketed or arrested by an officer that doesn't know the law... meaning that regardless of an outcome in your favor when it's all over... you still will be subject days, months or even years of the inconvenience of fighting the issue. Or worse yet you will have those breaking the law not being dealt with because the officer doesn't know the law... either way the hunter is the one getting the shaft... it is imperative that law enforcement know the new (and old) laws to affectively do their job and serve the people fairly.

  42. 3 1/2 year old 8 point, 175lbs. Caught him on trail cam yesterday morning checking a scrape I made and had the perfect wind this morning to sit in the right stand for him. Woke up late (6 am) and literally ran to my stand in my base layers. Was there for about 40 min before he leisurely strolled through. Sent a Rage through him at 27 yards. He ran about 300 yards before piling up. My son, wife, and buddy helped in the tracking effort. Great morning.
