My son called me at 5:00 last night with pictures of 2 does he spotted just after work. His company in Rockland has an open field and far enough away from housing and roads and decided to give it a try. At 5:30, he sends a picture of a nice spike. Then, I get a call on the house phone that he just shot a huge buck and I had to come up and help him get it to the car. He thought it dropped right before it headed into the marsh. It was a 40 yard shot, 60lb Mission bow, and he's real accurate. He didn't even go another 40yds and dropped. Unfortunately it was pouring rain when we clean him up, but a beautiful, heavy deer. We took it up to a butcher in Orange county and he's having it caped and mounted. He's taken an 8pt each bow season for the last 4 years, but this was his biggest yet. I, on the other hand, am still waiting for my first. He reminded me we've been bow hunting 9 years and I still haven't gotten one. Isn't he sweet, (lil *&%#), but still a proud papa.10 points

My FIL is 64 and I bet he only sits one stand this year and its a 12' larger platform/larger ladder. Other than that, he's on the ground now. He's lost his general sense of balance and has fallen several times with me around. He's probably done hunting in another year or two in reality, though he won't admit it. He is ALOT of work now to take hunting and I've scarificed alot of personal success to get him hunting - he doesn't drive and is an hour away from me.The Sh!t eating grin on his face last year when he shot his first buck in a very long time was worth it. Guy was jumping around like a teen boy who imagined hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth in game 7.5 points

If this is true, you will be made king of this website, and be given free ammo for the rest of your life, And did I mention that all forum members will have to surrender their favorite and most productive hunting spots to you? Man, you are going to have it made if this is true!!3 points

The reason is the orginal poster's time setting on his profile is different than the time settings on the one who made the quotes profile. Doesnt matter what time someone elses post states when you quote it if your not on the same time zone setting as him/her its going to automatically capture your time settings. It has nothing to do with what the time on your computer is set for but what the time settings on your NY Hunting Forum profile settings are at.3 points

If this guy says he takes 200yd shots at a deer, with buckshot, then I would consider him to be irresponsible, or full of s#!t at best. Most people wouldn't try a 200+ yard shot with a slug.3 points

Put my Winchester 1300 (shoot blue 2.75") with rifled barrel and Aimpoint 9000 and Remington 870 (shoot black 3") cantilever and Bushnell scope on paper the other day just to make sure they're on. Both 2.5 " high at 50 yards which makes them perfect at 125. Fired 2 from each gun off of rest , all touching. Out of pump guns these things rattled my teeth but managed not to crescent moon myself with the scope (not that I've ever done that ) Been shooting these for a number of years now. Love the energy they dump. 2 consecutive years I found the slug under the skin and opposite shoulder of 2 does . One doe was a mere 10 yards with the black 3 " version. Feet collapsed right under her. Not sure why people whine about no exit for tracking. Goodness, there's no tracking involved if you make a decent shot. My ML needed some work. Shooting new loads this year. Now that took some time to dial in. New loads were about 15 " high right at 50 yards than old loads. FYI on the Lightfields. Dicks nor Gander had them. Had to grab them from Cabela's. They changed the boxes too so don't overlook them if you're going to buy some. Anyone ever shoot their 3.5 " slugs. My shoulder hurts just thinking about it. November 15th can't get here quick enough!2 points

Dude, it's all about the excitement! It just takes time to get it all in order. It ain't as easy as they make it look on TV. Those guys are hunting prime pieces of property usually that look to be loaded with game. Patience my little grasshopper..................... I've never even held a xbow so can't comment on them. Don't give up on the vertical bow!2 points

LMAO. Thanks Boys. But it would really be the work of this other Albany insider. But even if he pulls out - doesn't mean Astorino gets elected but I assume the Dems will run away from their own party or at least just stay home. If it is true - good. If Astorino gets elected - great! And if he can get the SAFE ACT repealed I look forward to hearing all your guns going off the next day - all day long! Good luck out there fellows!2 points

I don't think you ever tell them what to do, they've earned the right to make their own decisions. Trying to force your will on them will only lead to resentment, and may cost you a lifetime hunting partner. Imagine if someone told you how you can hunt.... What you could do instead is give them options, explain why you're concerned, and show them what you can help them with, if they want. Buy and put up a ladder or two for them, or build them a nice ground blind (maybe even a small heater for it?), and let them decide on what they want. I agree we want to keep our folks safe, but we should also be respectful about how we do it. My two cents, anyway2 points

It's going to depend upon the individual ,and shape is going to be a bigger factor then age I'd think. I'm 55 I use climbers and hang ons all the time ,but I'm leaning towards ladders just for the ease of use,and I've had great hunts in some this year. I work as a LT in a city FD, I climb ladders with 80# s of stuff on and in my hands, open up roofs, carry, lift and drag heavy things and so on,so climbing in a hang on is not a challenge . My point being it's not a thing one can put an age on I do,however worry more about healing from a fall as i age, Harness, line tied off above each stand ,Prusik clipped into at the ground. Oh and I train with this stuff,I hang from stands and practice getting back in or down. Not anywhere near as easy as I thought btw. Wife has my stand locations and phone numbers of locals who also have my stands on their phones. If she does not hear from me at a set time,I'd imagine she'll erase the numbers and locations in her phone......2 points

I think that was a "word malfunction". Belo probably meant to say SMALL bucks. I remember having a "word malfunction" once. I meant to say to my wife " Pass the Cheerios, Honey"... Instead I said " You've ruined my LIFE, you F*****G B***H..!! "2 points

Last night turned out to be a bad day for deer but a far worse day for turkeys Shot entered from roughly 30 yards just behind armpit area and exited through the throat. No meat damaged. Not my ideal shot but a dead bird nonetheless and some fabulous dinner ahead for me and my poultrytarian girlfriend. One turkey down, at least 14 more left and one more with my name on it for this season! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk2 points

It's triggered completley by photosensitivity period. The amount of light which enters the iris. This will then trigger doe to go into Estrous. Doe going into Estrous is what causes the Bucks to RUT!1 point

No I'm with you. I was making the distinction between the 3 molars and 3 premolars. Yea I've found that 4 years old is where you really start to see wear on the last cusp of the third (last) molar. The lingual crest will round off and be not as tall at 3.5.1 point

Same here. I walk in in the dark so no orange. If I shoot something I'll put on the orange hat and vest from my backpack. Otherwise the orange hat is hanging by my head while in stand1 point

Those blades look more like a razor blade angle, which is probably different than a typical knife edge. Easy sharpening of broad heads is why I use G5 Montecs. Just use a regular flat stone. Easy as pie.1 point

Now sure is the time to start using good scents but make sure you get it from a farm that gets vaginal secretion when collecting scent. None of that and you dont get the pheromones and without them a mature buck knows that doe is not ready to breed. You will still get younger bucks to go ape $hit but the mature bucks need the real stuff to respond.1 point

I also belong to a C&H lease and I can say our lease is not directly related to our taxes. We pay a lot more than our taxes on the lots we lease. Not sure why? I do not understand why they don't lower the rates and lease all of there land. Right now they have in there rates roughly $60,000 or so in lost revenue. I'm sorry I did not total the land available. Am I right if they lowered there rates and leased it all it would work out the same? It only makes sense in this economy to make it as affordable as they can and still cover there taxes.1 point

they do kill deer but i do not like that they do not expand they are the same bullet they sell for muzzle loaders i prefer a lightfield they flatten out on impact and will all most take a deer off their feet1 point
