  1. You break your butt through life and hopefully have something to show for it in the end. I have had my cabin for 8 years now and so many memories have been made up there, it is truly priceless. This is a picture of my brother with his grandson glassing deer in my back field. This picture is worth a thousand words and makes it all worth it!!!

  3. I bought Ten acres last year with a smal cabin on it , in bottom of valley with corn fields boarding , all cedar and pines deer love it.. My friend owns a tree nursery and I am going to plant 15 apples trees and 5 pear trees that are already bearing fruit and are 8 to 10 feet tall. My cabin has power going to insulate and make so me and the wife can go and spend the night .. Need to build a outhouse and anout a million other things but it's nice to know I have a spot of my own.. Nothing but time to make it better

  4. Couldn't shut this jake up today. He gobbled to some crows on his own from above me, so I got hidden and coaxed him down the hill to have some fun. He strutted and gobbled for over an hour non-stop. The last shot of him he is standing on the side of one of my blow down stick blinds frustrated he can't find the hen he's been hearing. Some dumby forgot to take the big black filter off his lens from shooting waterfalls the other day, so these are really blurry and out of focus. It was great to hear some gobbling today and it really got me fired up for next month even though I screwed up most of the shots.

  5. I posted a video of me calling a turkey when I happened to be out working and learning to use the cam...I snuck into a blind near by,open brush....I was wearing grey sweats and a white top...hen walk up to the blind and peered in over the front wall at me.Looked around and walked away...I half shut my eyes so it couldn't see the glare and did'nt move. I worry more about what I'm doing while hunting than what I'm wearing.Any ole camo on sale has worked fine for me.

  8. I appreciate all the input. They reason I was looking at the 270 was specifically the Ruger bolt action with wood stock and blued steel barrel. I just really wanted a nice wood stock white tail rifle. My 30-06 is a weatherby with a black synthetic stock which I love. I beat the hell out of it and it has never given me an issue. I have been hunting with it for the past decade and I love the rifle. I just really wanted a nice wood grain bolt action hunting rifle.

  9. For years, we have hoped for a pond setup to work. Finally, despite strong winds, we called them out onto the glare ice.

  10. Got a chance to get out for an extended shed hunt this morning, now that the maple syrup season is over. I really enjoyed the time out there. Found shed #2 on a north sloping ditch bank. Last years shed, but we'll take it, LOL. Stuck in the mud and only showing the tips from out of the leaves that covered most of it. My camera refuses to take daylight shots, otherwise would have posted the spot.

  13. Another BA vid!!! Boy that first dog looked awesome,to bad you didn't get a crack at him.Are you guys doing more turkey films this year?

  14. Not a fan of them. Completely accurate realism isn't necessary in a turkey decoy, but these things are down right stupid looking. Nothing but a money maker. Buy something a little nicer man.

  15. That is correct. Also the same target point weight as your broadheads. Before the season, you should practice with your broadheads to make sure the point of impact is the same as your target points.

  16. Twenty-nine years ago when I moved into my house, I found a stash of old tools in the garage. Many were rusted, some, being old and from an age and day when they made things to last, I brought many of them back to life if they could be useful to me again. One item was an old, rusted axe head in the bottom of a wooden milk crate, I took a wire wheel brush and removed all the old rust. The head was forged, and had a "Plumb" stamp on it. I knew I had something worthwhile. I took all the rust off, and refinished the metal head with cold-blue. I procured a new handle, fit the end in the axe and secured it with Acraglas, gave it a BLO finish, a coat of wax, added a hole at the end for some paracord to wrap around my wrist to keep the axe from slipping. It's sharp enough to shave with. If I change anything when this handle breaks, I'll look for a longer one, with a bit more curve to it.

  18. Spot Hogg Wise Guy with the post...not super expensive, but not cheap. It'll last a long time and for a hunting focused release, it'll adjust to fit your preferences. Releases are the one area I think people undervalue and try to save on. You can certainly get by, but this is a "buy once and be done with it" purchase for many years. If you search hard enough, you should be able to find good arrows for about $60 a half dozen. Beman ICS hunters are a good value for the cost. Find a model that has been around a while if you are not buying alot in one order. Arrow companies have realized their sales go up if they change models every 2-3 years, and adjust the specs ever so slightly. Now when I buy arrows, I usually buy 3 dz. at a minimum to ensure I don't have to redial my bow in solely because of a lack of the arrows I shot before. BHs in NY have cutting diameter requirements, and must be not be barbed. Most fixed or replacement blade BH on the market are fine. When you get into mechanicals, look a little more closely. But, if you are on a budget, look at slick tricks standards or magnums, and be done with it. Simple, effective, legal, and not a ton of complaints. Mechanicals...I am a big fan of Grim Reaper 1 3/8" but again, you can pick up some Slick Tricks for a good price and not have to worry about your BH.

  20. Clean it up and put a handel on it, the shape of the head will tell you what it was use for, anything that has a makers mark /stamp and not made in China is worth using....

  21. Now that we are digital, I have been looking at all those piles of carousels full of slides that I took over the decades. So the other day, I began a project to sort through all the slides and decide which ones that I wanted to pay the big bucks to have converted to digital. So I had to go through each carousel to determine whether or not they were worth the $.80 each to convert or not. We have been digital for a long time, so I have not viewed those slides for a long time. I was amazed at some of the priceless family pictures that I had. Many of the people are gone now, and of course those pictures of the kids are fascinating to look at. Little bity kids with snowsuits and such are now huge grown men and mature ladies now. Irreplaceable memories. Pictures of huge brush-piles and monstrous bon-fires from back when we hand cleared 1000' of driveway by hand (no chainsaw), and there are these little kids and this baby-faced guy and my wife all pitching in and helping. Camping vacations, and family gatherings all preserved in film are now at my fingertips on the computer. I'll be making up some individual folders of special pics to email to friends and relatives who have special interests in some of the subjects of these pics. Yeah the money I spent updating those pics to digital was well worth it. Those memories from years and years ago are easily available now and also refreshed in my mind.

  22. Great video! I have had those little guys for several years, and the Eye doctor went thorough a similar explanation. Nothing to worry about, if you can deal with the minor distraction. Eventually they seem to go away, but most likely it is just the brain accepting and ignoring them for a while. but they'll be back next time you look at a bright surface or up in the sky. Ah the human body is a maze of crazy occurrences.

  28. We had a great week. Just got back from camp today. My son got a nice one on his first cast. Fishing was good on Wednesday and Thursday morning, but turned into a washout after that. The warm weather and rain turned the creek too muddy until yesterday.

  30. [attachment=29008:IMAG3600.JPG][attachment=29006:IMAG0131.JPG][attachment=29007:IMAG0468.JPG] I am really impressed with both the Moultrie Camera and Whitetail Institute's winter greens. The camera was put up last summer and is still going. The pictures are pretty clear and has decent range. I was really happy to see the number of deer feeding in the plot. It definitely seem that they prefer the brassica over the corn??? Looking forward to more food plot work this year!!!

  36. it'll take adjusting but it'll work for your camp assuming you have power and there's not an outage. be sure to wrap the pipes well. assuming you have a wood stove for heat and even if the pipe is radiating heat into your conditioned space, wood is free and elec isn't. the cost is all in use and initial install as you're feeding it with possibly 1/0 AWG conductors depending on if your talking 100 full load amps or 100 amp circuit breaker. homemade jobs using solar to heat/temper the water before it gets to your heater is good too. depends on the rate of return though. also unless you're paying for a long secondary portion of the service getting to the camp, 200A service is the way to go especially if you're using instantaneous water heating. chest freezers and other stuff start to become nice add-ons later on. heck maybe enough of you decide to split a walk-in cooler. not sure what kind of "camp" this is.

  37. I agree with Grampy if included in archery then a certification should be a requirement.

  38. The crossbow is not some magical weapon. It has it's limitations just like any other hunting tool, like rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, pistol,or compound, longbow or recurve. Every hunter must learn the limits of what they hunt with. I feel that the crossbow,if included in archery season, should also require a bowhunter certification. Ultimately it is still a very sharp broadhead that kills the deer with a crossbow. As we all know broadheads kill differently than bullets,so having a bowhunter cerification makes sense to me. I do enjoy shooting and hunting with my crossbow. As I said, nothing magical about it. Just another tool to hunt with. I do feel that full inclusion will happen in NY within the next couple of years. So for now I will take the time given to hunt with the crossbow. And hope I can get a couple more years out of my bad shoulders with my compound!

  39. There is something to be said for switching it up though. I agree that I'd rather be good with one gun, but I enjoy mz season. Mostly because it's the same deer and weather as the end of fun season, but I feel like I'm doing something new and get a little more excited.

  40. I have both... My 270 is a dedicated 130 grain rifle and my 06 is a dedicated 180 grain rifle. No resighting up and down for different bullet weights.

  41. Absolutely NOT!!! lol. "I have more guns than I need, but I need more guns than I have". I think we are all on the same page as far as just prioritizing the purchases. Of course there is always the "deal too good to pass up" that screws the entire logic up.
