It's a cool, crisp 46 degrees with wisps of clouds and no wind. What a great image to wake up to. [emoji41] [emoji41] - Deerthug10 points

Figured Id share a few entertaining videos from one of my cams. The first tow are of a fawn that saw its reflection in the black flash lens of my cam. Its reaction is great! This one I thought was kinda funny to catch4 points

Got a late start this year. Didn't put any cams out until I put 2 cams out on Labor Day (9/7). Same 8 acre property we always hunt in 3N Putnam county. The 2 cams are about 200 yards apart, one is the trail I watch when I hunt from my spot and the other is the trail my dad watches when from his spot. One 8 point looks pretty nice and I got lots of daytime pics of him, from both cams. Wondering if maybe he's the 8 point we had pics of last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I'll be dipped,I was at my buddies house shooting rifles today and after we finished ,I decided to walk out to my stand and check things out. The stand is 40 yards into the woods off the field ,and I take one step onto the path and I'm now staring eye to eye with a doe at 20 yards . I was talking to her and taking pictures until I realized that I was just gonna walk away and not spook her. If she had thumbs ,she would have stuck them in her ears and stuck her tongue out at me.3 points

Stands...I moved one that was where the new blind is...the 2nd from the bottom rung has bulged out and split length wise...I will have to assume the very cold weather and deep snows got water in the tubing ...that kept freezing and building up..the extreme cold weakened the steel tubing causing this....keep a close eye on those rungs and the welds...Best of luck and may this be a safe season for everyone...2 points

To the guys who want a minimum.point , how many deer have you shot in your career hunting that would.not make a point policy if it was in place then? How may deer did you shoot where you counted the points before you shot? Just wondErin as I know I have shot most of my bucks without counting points and have a couple dozen that would not of.made a point minimum or given me a chance to count before I shot, each of them hold a fond memory for me though, I would hate to deny the chance for someone to make a memory for themselves because I wanted something bigger....2 points

In one hunters eyes, he has good potential. In another hunters eyes, he is a good buck. Everyone decides for themselves. That is the way it should always be.2 points

Our phone at home looked like a black dial phone, but did not have a dial on it... We'd pick up the receiver and the operator would come on the line and say " Number please".... My home number was 242-M1.... My first love's number was 416-J... We were on a party line, as were many people because private lines were more expensive...Our ring was one long...Neighbors knew each other's rings and the local busybodys would pick up there phone and listen in on your conversation... Of course with mine, usually all they would hear was heavy breathing....<<grin>>....2 points

Then you should be fine. I don't think nerves care if you're using iron sights, red dot, or scope. When nerves wants to screw you over, it will. That said, I also say my groups (including the flyer) are doubled in real world conditions just as a general rule of thumb. i.e. if my groupings are 2 inches with the flyer, then I'm probably shooting 4 inch groups when nervous. Of course that's just my own personal rule of thumb and not a scientific fact. I include the flyer because Murphy's Law says that's the shot you'll take when the moment counts.2 points

The deer and wildlife have been hammering the apple tree next to my food plot. It's Been my most active location for the last month. Glad to see the buck I'm after has made some more daytime visits. Hope he continues this while I'm in my stand! http://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/BFE74502-309A-40BA-8FC6-785D0EE54B14_zpsr1micrwq.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/FF357CE2-E463-40A3-9213-F3D774DB9386_zpsztakluw4.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/6719EC39-2988-45F9-AE93-A036EB0030B9_zpsyqz8rpke.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/0670A65A-D3B4-49A8-AFC8-0D0C2EAE9CD4_zpscxcmxv3s.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/3E95BB0A-EDFA-4F66-BCE5-3DB8DCC491AB_zpsnixn73rv.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/83349E73-97CC-4537-BB47-259F60CF9A0E_zps4zj04022.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/6B591602-A391-4786-B649-5857D5E7A5E3_zpsyoluquir.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/D35AE6A9-0720-46F9-9CDA-1B420DA27157_zps2sqcwknw.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/0F799388-1AC8-441C-A2CE-96122D9E4C23_zpsrzx1jmmn.jpghttp://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Chiefbkt/Mobile%20Uploads/D0CE031C-14CB-4B83-9DDD-C285F4DFB114_zpslsoi4oc7.jpg Chiefbkt2 points

For every darn squirrel that has trip my trigger this "trail cam" season I'd by RICH. I have one spot that I have to move the cam next time I'm down. I pulled the cards today and one had probably 200 20 second gray squirrel movies. UGGH............... I did get a cool clip of 6 adult long beards with a couple hens. Mix in a half a coyote, a fox or two, coons and a couple small bucks I'd say it wasn't the worst pull ever but darn those grays! PYGMY, come shoot 'em!!1 point

Well if you've been at it for 52 years you must have stacked up some pretty good 8's and 10's in the first 20 years. Yes/no? How about the last 30 years, what have you killed?1 point

Nothing great on any of my Geneseo trail cams but got pictures of these guys . They have been in the camera lock box a couple times before . The 1st time I saw them , they startled me . Now I expect to see them in there .1 point

Got down to the farms yesterday and installed the prusik lines in the hang on sets. I also installed the seat pads in the ladder stands and a few hang ons. One ladder stand had a seat frame that scraped on one of the vertical bars when you would try to flip it up or down. Pretty much made it unusable for bow season for me. I had my hammer with me so I beat the seat frame into submission. It doesnt rub any more and flips up and down nice and easy lol. I also setup the ground blind at the end of one of the brassica plots. Should be great to take the kids in. I noticed that scrapes had started opening up, so I moved a couple of cams around accordingly. Today I had to stop down again to put up one of the cams, and I noticed big, wide paths smashed down in the brassicas. I also noticed large piles of poop near and in both of the plots. As I was looking around, you could see a few places where the grass on the edge of the plot was matted down, like a deer bed but much larger. As I was walking back to the truck, I found another plie of scat, but this one had a pretty large bear track in it. I have never noticed bear sign at this farm before, but now I have a reason to do a few sits down near the plots. Id really love to have some bear steaks in the freezer!1 point

And I'm thinking the exact opposite. I think the lack of the scope makes it a little more fun. Kind of the same reason some guys like to use muzzle loaders. It adds a little challenge to an already challenging hunt.1 point

i'm shocked there's been no mention of setup. everyone talks about how far they can hit a target. no talk about arrow weight, drag, bow cross section to catch wind, or broadhead choice. just because you can make the shot doesn't mean you'll get the penetration. also i can't imagine trying to with a sight without adjustable pin brightness and smaller diameter like .010" pins.1 point

I purposely shoot on days where the gusts and wind are over 25mph. For me, I've seen very little change in arrow flight out to 70 yards. I do this mainly to see how my arrow flight is at those ranges. I was surprised to see such little arrow movement. Chiefbkt1 point

A nice recoil pad on the H n R I hope. Brother has a 10 bore he's shot 88 turkeys with. I got conned into shooting some new loads on paper for him, Dang thing kicks like a mule. And we all thank you for donating your time to Deer Search !1 point

My opinion, for what it is worth, is that you are trading a bit of what you are calling "clutter" for an additional step in your shooting set-up. That's probably not something you want to be faced with when the deer is closing in on you. I think I would prefer to take that extra motion and time and activity out of my sighting process. I already have too long of a checklist of shooting procedures and things to think about. I would rather not have to set up my sight as well prior to executing the shot. The good news is that there is no between the pins guess-work. You set it for one distance and then where the pin is where the arrow is supposed to go. Different things are important to different people, and so it really becomes a personal choice based on preferences.1 point

Watch the video and feel they way i feel. This will be the first year in many I will not have many days to hunt. Exactly 4 days this year. A new business and responsibilities with my girls will narrow down the time. I will long for the frost filled mornings and the excitement of last light. The cruntch of leaves under foot either deer or man it still sounds good! We get together to celebrate the hunt but also to come together to enjoy all that God has given us. As a hunter I love deer and am always amazed when I see one. Good luck to all this season especially the youth hunters that carry on our tradition!!!! This video is wonderful!!! Fred Bear lives on in all of us! Time to put a few miles between you and all that noise in the world……. https://www.facebook.com/BearArchery/videos/vb.128593671687/10152999186876688/?type=2&theater1 point

I carry a pair of ear plugs that are on a string. I have worn them more often mowing the yard than while hunting. Wear them more often small game/bird hunting than deer hunting. When it is freezing cold and have a hat on with the hood up, not much can be heard then any way. The magnum rounds seem harsher on the ears than do the 2 3/4 shells to me. They also have to compete with my Bluetooth for when my wife calls (to check up on me) or dad calls me to say he got one down or is tracking one he hit (never mind that we are hunting 5 hours apart by car ride in another state)1 point
