  6. The ongoing disrespect/disregard for law enforcement. I just don't get it No matter what the circumstance is, stop like a gentleman, let law enforcement do their job and if you're not doing anything wrong you should be on your merry way shortly, if you are doing something wrong pay the mother-effing consequences/fines etc. Unfortunately, this officer now has to lose time from work, pay out of pocket medical expenses, etc. All because some douche decided to try and get away. Rant over....thanks

  8. You don't worry about how she was raised. We are extremely close. She is aces as far as any 20 year olds I know. 3.9 in a very hard major and still loves to spend time with Mom and Dad. I know things like manners, personal responsibility and hard work are foreign to you. I would bet you don't see and issue letting a your kids spend time under the crack mentors on your street for career tips and that would seem perfectly acceptable you.

  10. One of my nephews had a match grade M1-A, which is the semi-auto only version of the M14.. He was attending college at the time and did not have a good place to keep it, so it lived at my house for a couple of years, along with 500 rounds of ammo and the invitation for me to shoot it whenever I wanted.. I didn't shoot it very much, because I didn't want to take advantage, but it sure was fun when I did. Eventually, he took it back...<sigh>.....

  12. My package from Midway came yesterday. I laid out the parts & rubbed a little Minwax Antique Oil Finish into the wood to highlight the grain. It will look even better when it is sanded smooth & finished, but this gives an idea of the amount of fiddleback in the Black Walnut. A different angle. I've been working hard to get my gun building bench & R/C aircraft hanger into shape over the last week. I'm having foot surgery on the 24th & will have to stay off the foot completely for 6 weeks. Crutches & a "knee walker"! I'll have lots of arse time to spend at the benches building.

  13. Obama would not connect religion to the terrorist. He did call them Terrorists but fails to connect the facts. Ignoring the true enemy only makes it harder to fight them. The radical's are praying on our weakness of protection of Religion and political correctness. The weakling in chief is standing in the way of solving the problem, his advisors advise and he does the opposite. Its already here in America and we need to wake up and address the problem fast.

  14. The main reason I'm in this thread is that you asked a question, and I knew the answer. The thread popped up in my "Recent Topics" feed. And... I'm a helpful kind of guy. I knew the answer because I run a legislative information and intelligence service based in Albany. I live across the Hudson River in Rensselaer County. In my experience it is difficult to learn who is running for state office when district lines are contained within a individual county. The State Board of Elections does not make that information available on their website because they consider it a local election, even though the candidate is running for state office. Some "local" boards of election do not make this information readily available on their websites, which is both ridiculous and time consuming for the voter. District maps are fine, but it's who wants to sit in that seat that really matters. This, in my opinion, is an area that can easily be improved upon and should be without delay. But this is beside the point of this thread... Are there any NYC-based hunting organizations? Basically, people who are already grouped in numbers that would sign letters to legislators... I'm in the dark on that front... I don't know that I can help beyond basic info here, but when I can, I do help. Good luck...

  15. So I haven't had much time this winter to get out and do much. Did zero small game or predator hunting. I did get out once so far for shed hunting. Did a quick once over of our food plots and some of the major trails near the thick stuff. Found a decent 4 point shed from one of the local 2 year olds smack in the middle of one of the WR plots.

  16. Expresso, you are delusional in your thinking. Other police officers have been critical of the tactics used in the video. Not knowing your background I won't speculate that you know any more or less than the police that have given their prospective. They have said the road block was deliberately designed to hurt those in the truck. Finnicum had no idea what was lying ahead, but the cops that originally stopped them did, and made no mention of it. Shots fired were not reported and worse, covered up by other officers on the scene. Which shows they knew they did something wrong. Furthermore, your stupid comparison to minorities who've fathered many children as Finnicum did, in some sort of stereotypical analogy to try and show he isn't a loving father, reeks of bigotry. I see a human being standing up peacfully for the constitution. Who was murdered by a government that wanted to make an example out of him to show any others that might be thinking of challenging the government. I guess you see a deadbeat father, reckless with no regard for human life that wanted to kill cops and got everything he had coming to him. Like I said, Delusional!

  19. I couldn't resist today and went shed hunting for 2 hours. I found sheds #16 and #17 for the year and a matching side to one of the antlers I found 3 weeks ago. I knew there were at least 2 great bucks in there and I've found 3 of their antlers so far, I'll be a happy man if I can find that last side... One was a fighter, broke his brow completely off one antler and his whole main beam beyond his G-2 on the other side. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

  24. I think the point I'm making on elections is that a Board of Elections is an official, taxpayer funded location for all administration of and information on state and local elections. I shouldn't have to use a search engine to learn about who is running for an election. As a voter, that information could and should be readily available on a board of elections website, be it local or state. A board of elections should be one of the first links offered in any search for a state/local election. In my line of work, I need official documents as well as the information contained within, and I don't think it is too much to ask of our government to make that information readily available to all. Anywho... Here is the link to the login page for the service I run: http://www.nystatewatch.com/ Best of luck in organizing!

  28. Not surprisingly, I spoke to soon...........I stopped at the Town Of Amherst today and the guy said "no dice". I said WTH man? Turns out they stopped the darn program a month ago. The Man said that they will pick it up in front of my house on my garbage day, March 30th. Put it to the curb and they'll snag it. He said that they had too many people bringing them from all over the county and they couldn't handle them all; they were overwhelmed!! Soooo, now my wife is just thrilled that we have to look at the heap-o-garbage on the side of the house for a week until NEXT Wednesday. One other thing the guy said was that he was told Best Buy would take it but they charged $15 I have no regrets, I'd do it again if'n I spot one in the ditch and the stars are lined up.

  30. My seven yr old and I have logged some miles. We started back in Jan at our local non hunting park. We had transisioned from the brushy field into the hardwoods. We always spread out while walking and im always way ahead as he is easally distrcted. Anyways im way ahead and i hear him yell dad i found a deer, keeps repeating it as im walikng back. I walk up to him not seeing anything and say where, he points right infront of me, wow sweet find! Not sure what happened to him but my son was super exited, the next morning he said he dreamed about it. Last sunday morning he said he wanted to shed hunt behind great great grams house. We took a quick walk and he's dying to find a shed on his own. So I'm walking thru some brush and I see one, I call him over telling him this looks like a good spot ( I want him to find it) I sent him past it like for time, each walking right by it, finally I say stop and look around, he didn't find it first but non the less happy. This am he wanted my wife to tag along at the park. She has never really even looked before but she found one. Not long after I heard my son make a excited noise and see him bend over and pick up his first on his own horn, a shinny 2pt and boy was he excited. I had a goose egg. I cant get this to post pic between each story so they are in order of story, except the first two are reversed.

  34. Although I held the door for little old ladies (music reference) at Tim Horton's this morning, I did another deed of greater importance later in the morning. I took a ride down to Canadice to retrieve trail cameras and hunt for sheds. I travel Middle Road all the time year round and pick up lots of trash when I have the time. There has been a TV in the ditch that I have been eye balling for 6 months. Some SOB tossed it late last summer IIRC and nobody else picked it up. Granted, it was rolled probably 25-30 feet down the bank and heavy as all get out. Today was the day that I had the time, gloves and right boots on my feet to get r done. Now the Town Of Amherst will get it........they have a drop off at the highway dept. I'll swing by some day this week and pitch it. In the mean time, if anybody wants it, holler. Did I mention it WAS heavy?

  36. Hi, again, Mike. Perhaps there's a misunderstanding of intentions here, so I'll be as clear as I can: I'm not looking for a "fair deal." I'm not interested in dove hunting at this early stage in my hunting life, and since, as you pointed out earlier, I do not live in NYC, I'm likely unable, as I pointed out earlier, to help you organize NYC hunters. This is why I continually wish you luck. I was, however, looking to help in a way that I could by simply providing basic information of which I was aware, namely that Borelli took a seat in the NYC Council, and that a single republican candidate is running to fill that seat during a special election to be held on April 19. I also answered subsequent questions you asked. I also added an aside about my experiences in dealing with many boards of elections, and that, unfortunately, derailed the original conversation. For the record, and this is for the benefit of anyone who uses the urbanresearch maps: that link will take you to district demographic information from 2012, confirmed data on the most recent census. The link to "See the list of candidates for..." will take you to ballotpedia, but for 2012. You can look up information on ballotpedia for current candidates running in active elections, but that information is not always the most current due to the reasons I've stated in prior posts on this thread. Good luck, Mike! - over and out

  37. I had a similar conversation with a woman who had been abused by her husband. The conversation was regarding the difference between discipline and assault. She asked me the same thing, if my son should fear me. No I hope my son does not fear me. I hope he has a healthy fear of consequences, enough so that it could affect his judgment prior to doing something stupid. If that fear happens to be my hand paddling his ass for mouthing off to a teacher or the serious face-to-face he would get for running over a police officer... so be it. I would expect my son, or anyone for that matter, not to just out right fear me. My counter to her argument is that you can tell a child a hundred times not to touch something that is hot, but eventually they will do it and they will get burned. What is it that stops them from doing it again... satisfied curiosity or fear of the pain it caused the first time?

  38. Long long ago, my two year old started walking toward the road. A shout, "Hey, Get back here" meant to him run to achieve his goal. I ran, caught him by the arm, swung him back toward the house with a slap across the butt. (admittedly harder than intended). Mother-in-Law tells me "You didn't have to do that". I was still pissed and held out my hand. "I'd rather it be this than a Buick". Things are different today with "timeouts". Still I can recall the boots and once a belt as corrections to bad behavior. I don't hear young adults today recalling corrective timeouts. Just my old fashion view of psychology speaking. I suppose the new methods work but it seems there are more that never learn.

  39. Religion is not race and vice versa. Xenophobia is what you are looking for, and that is what it is. "Ignoring the true enemy only makes it harder to fight them. The radical's are praying on our weakness of protection of Religion and political correctness." That's shocking to hear, our country was founded around freedom of religion. Sounds UN-American to me. Carry on.

  43. One thing to remember is draw weight and length are related. If your child has a long draw even at the lowest poundage you will never see 5 lbs of draw, it may be 15-20 lbs which will be too much for a 7 or 8 year old. My 11 year old daughter has a mission menace turned all the way down and set to 20" draw and has some difficulty drawing. My recommendation would be a round cammed bow, long bow style. My daughter started with a bear panda and shot very well with it. Check out the bear scout for 35$ he will have a blast with it!

  45. My daughter started with a longbow at 6yrs old and still shoots it at 7, but I did also get a kids compound. She shoots both now. You can get away with poor technique and shoot a compound pretty darn good. Much tougher to do with a trad bow. Thus, I am hoping she will become proficient with the longbow and then she can use whatever she wants. At age 7, she knows what the term "expansion" means in terms of releasing a trad bow. I suspect many compound only guys would not be familiar with the term even though back tension is still a proper component of compound shooting. I can tell you that I have learned more about shooting a bow well in my trad pursuits than I did when I only shot compound.

  49. Never forget my second year hunting with my best friend and hunting partner Shawn in the Catskills 1989. It was our last day and we where heading out just before dark. Walking down a dirt trail covered in rocks we where not exactly quiet, a buck must have been on the side of the trail and at about 20 ft he found out we where not deer! His snort growl was loud and fierce! (We both jumped!) Then he bolted in a direct line away from us, anything in his way was broken, snapped or ran through for 50+ yards and he was not stopping! The sound of this beast crashing through the woods at tops speed was something I had never heard before and his growl at us was unnerving to say the least! We both had our guns at the ready and said what the hell was that! Gave us a good scare, lol. My first close encounter with a big buck and he scared the hell out of us!
