  1. I had my 6 month CT scan of my lungs 2 weeks ago to check on any return of lung cancer, and went for follow up visit yesterday with my Oncologist for results summary. Great news again from Dr. D was that there isn't any sign of return of the cancer and that a spot on my lower right lung that they were monitoring has resolved itself and is no longer visible!! And I won't need another scan for a year now! It's been just over three years now since my lobectomy and remission, and I am feeling pretty good. So I am a happy camper...and hunter lol!!! Thanks for good news Dr. D!!

  3. There's a huge difference you're ignoring. The people out west have a beef with the government and it's law enforcers regarding what they see as infringements on their liberty. Radical Islam jihadists are attacking innocent men, women and children with the objective of causing terror and destroying our freedom and liberty. You cannot, in any sane way, consider these two groups of people to be of the same mindset. Nor can any analytical thinker classify them as the same level of threat to average, ordinary, everyday American citizens.

  4. Contact your local representatives I have listed below. It would be nice to get youth involved and help our numbers grow. NEW YORK STATE CONSERVATION COUNCIL 8 East Main Street Ilion, NY 13357 LEGISLATION IS NOW PENDING TO LOWER THE MINIMUM AGE FOR BIG GAME HUNTING WITH FIREARMS TO TWELVE YEARS OF AGE. Assembly bill A8358 sponsored by Assemblywoman Gunther and companion Senate bill S5434 sponsored by Senator Griffo are currently pending in their respective houses' Environmental Conservation Committees. The NYSCC strongly supports this change. Increasing the opportunities for young people to participate in one of the state's premier outdoor activities will help our youth develop new skills and cultivate lifelong participation in outdoor sports.  The DEC's current five-year deer management plan strongly recommends that the minimum age for big game hunting with a firearm be lowered to twelve.  Nationally, all states allow youth age twelve to hunt big game with a firearm and 60% have a younger minimum age.  Experience has demonstrated that mentored youth hunters are the safest hunters afield. Participation in hunting activities can provide quality time for family bonding while sharing the benefits of relating to the natural world. Please support this legislation by contacting your New York State legislators and urging them to press for passage. If you don't know your legislator, now is a good time to get to know him or her. If you don't know their name or address, go to http://assembly.state.ny.us/or www.nysenate.gov. The Council's Memorandum of Support can be found on our website www.nyscc.com. Call, write, email or stop in today. We can't make this happen without the active support of New York's sportsmen. 5. Ok, allow me to settle toegate. I'll assume you are talking about the bird on the left in the above photos, because you can't see the feet at all of the bird on the right in the first image. Please note that in the following image the bird that was originally on the left has moved to the right side (the bird sitting over the U-shaped twig hasn't moved). You can clearly see that all toes are present and accounted for in their entirety. That said, it's true that doves are particularly susceptible to frostbite. I would however challenge you to prove "the increase in people who feed birds". Based on what data, and compared to when? More importantly, is there any data showing a corresponding increase in the incidence of missing toes in morning doves to suggest a cause/effect relationship? I think you hit the nail on the head with the first part of your reasoning. Weather patterns related to climate change have demonstrably altered the migration behavior of a vast number of species. It's no surprise that doves would hang around during a winter like the one we just had, but even during our warmest winters it is still almost guaranteed that we will get at least a week or two where nighttime temperatures drop into the negative teens or lower which can easily catch them off guard.

  7. Far right wing extremist, who would kill innocent people are scum. I get it. But With radical Islam causing so much death and suffering, world wide, why would you concentrate more on far right wing extremists ? You go back 20 years and bring up McViegh but you won't go back 15 years and include the people killed in 911 in your tally of people killed in the U.S. by Jihadists. Its always "since 911" Why? And I think the number of people killed in the U.S. by Jihadists "since 911" is more like 90.

While not much is sacred in this country the flag used to be and still should be regardless of what the supreme court says. He or she can express their rights and say what they want , dress they way the want, and be the sex that they want, but standing on and defacing the American flag crosses the line and is un-acceptable to me. All I'm sayin is I wouldn't stand by and watch it happen! He would be a hero & I would be in jail.

  12. Last year I was bow hunting and got to my stand a little too early. Pitch black. I was hanging out at the base of my tree, waiting for it to lighten up a little before climbing up. I didn't want to use my flash light and risk spooking something. All of the sudden "CRASH SNAP CRASH!!" right in front of me, sounded like with in 10 yards, and I couldn't see a thing. I assume it was a buck chasing a doe. I pulled out my light and lit the place up like a light house. The pucker affect lasted a good while.

  14. The original question was, "Which is a GREATER threat?". Yes, there have been Americans who have killed like terrorists, but I don't think it easy to point out an incident since OK City. Why? Because they realized that wouldn't advance their agenda. They want support from regular, everyday, ordinary citizens. That is the only way they can gain power. Now Islamic terrorists have no desire for support. They just want us all dead. Which is a greater threat today? Who is more likely to achieve an attack on Americans using chemical weapons or a nuclear weapon? The body count presented prior seems to be manipulated to me. I don't believe all incidents have been properly recorded because many of the incidents were not properly labeled Islamic terror. Ft Hood is one example. That is far less important than the numbers that will be coming in the future. I don't think you will see "militias" racking up the body count Islamic terrorists will from now on. Failing to direct efforts of prevention at the right target, or not directing them correctly because political correctness was able to misdirect the real threat, will prove to be a huge mistake.

  23. It is just more of the same thing that is happening in every level of activity today. The continued dumbing down to accommodate some base level of competency. Its more of this idea that everybody deserves to be a winner regardless of effort. You know .... a trophy for everybody. It is the only fair way to do things......lol. Even hunting methods are entering into this new way of thinking. It won't stop at crossbows either. In fact it already has progressed beyond crossbows.

  24. I’ve been bow hunting now for 42 years and have no intensions of using a cross bow. But I have never heard so much crap coming from sup posit bow hunters. We’ve all heard the same old crap cross bow aren’t bows, those who use cross bows are lazy, not as skilled as us bow hunters, taking the easy way out and hears a good one just gun hunters who want to hunt in are season. (Truth is more bow hunters are buying cross bows then gun hunters) A cross bow is a bow just look it up. A cross bow has a trigger and a stock. If you shoot your bow with a release then you have a mechanical trigger with one exception no safety and the only thing a stock does is make the cross bow a more stable platform. As for a cross bow being easier to shoot that’s true but that’s not a bad thing. As for cross bow users being lazy and unskilled there are some that are lazy and unskilled. But I will bet there are more of us bow hunters that are lazy and unskilled then cross bow users. We all know someone who pulls their bow out a week or even days before the season. Then they tell us they hit a deer and lost it sometimes more than one in a season. Just look at the bow hunting thread here you see some of the same names saying the lost a deer almost every year. Oh quit using the dead spot myth as an excuse it don’t exist. Every one of us who hunts has lost a deer and it is always are fault. If you say I never lost one then you haven’t hunted long enough or you’re a liar! So stop the crap!!

  25. Tess , found my first pittbull 25 yrs ago as a puppy and a stray driving back from Florida as a teenager at South of the Border truck stop. Best darn dog ever. This one about 14yrs ago I had a girlfriend move out and she took my cat and left her dog. I was pissed at first but she's been great. She sleep between the door and our infant son in the nursery. The half pug half bulldog named Major came with my wife. Kinda pompous but he's mellowed some. The picture of him looking in the pool is right before he realized he didn't swim well

  29. So now that we need to make it easier for people to hunt because no has time to spend practicing why not just allow guns. No point in having a bow season anymore. I have to contend with people shooting the hell out of the woods anyway so why not let them shoot deer? Just eliminate seasons and make October 1st opening day for all weapons. Otherwise lets get a handgun season in bow season just to trample down the bow hunters some more, those dam elitist! lol

  35. Well to be more technical, I did have to cover a few hundred yards in snow as it scampered up a tree and was about to go into a hole in the tree. Put a bolt thru it just before it got into the safety of the tree hole. Shot it from the side under the armpit because I was worried about pinning it against the tree with no way to get it down.

  39. As Paul Harvey used to say, "And now the rest of the story". I might be a little more strict as regards the meaning of "physical control" to ensure that they are in immediate positions of physical contact if necessary. I frequently see the lack of obedience to vocal commands between a parent and their child. Voice and sight from a distance, does not really mean physical control. But, that is really nit-picking. That is something I could support, and like I said, I would go even further and remove the minimum age requirement completely with the above mentor requirements.

  41. I already have admitted that I was on the wrong end of that argument back when the compound bows were first admitted. Yes, I was one of those that thought the compound was a good idea. Only my mistake was that I didn't really recognize it as a precedent that would lead to a continuing evolution of corruption of the sport of bowhunting. Well, unlike many, I do learn from past mistakes. I say a line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere. When we start saying that shoulder fired, stabilized, constantly drawn, weapons are the same as bows, it seems to me that we have crossed over that line. When we encounter a weapon that uses none of the shooting forms and disciplines of vertical bows, that is a step too far. Those that shoot bows understand stance, back tension, stable bow arms, consistent grip, follow through, and all the other rigid and unforgiving requirements of shooting any vertical bow. We understand that crossbows have none of that. The methods of holding, firing and the disciplines required for any vertical bow are consistently the same and have absolutely nothing in common with a crossbow which has a shooting form and method that incorporates exactly those of a gun. Ha-ha-ha ...... I just realized that just like this whole thread, has already been argued a few years ago and nobody is listening to each other now just like back then. Just like TV we are involved in re-runs. I believe everything has been said on this subject that can be said..... Seriously, when we start repeating ourselves, perhaps it is becoming obvious that further discussion has no point. Minds are now made up. and the future of bowhunting will be whatever it becomes. Just like those old-timers that argued against compounds years ago and were eventually proven correct about the precedents that are set and it is now too late to effect any change. This new precedent that carries the corruption of bow season one more huge step forward is already set in stone as is the future of bowhunting. We are now just waiting for the next gadget to invade the season and call itself a bow. Or perhaps the whole façade will eventually be dropped, and the whole idea of a special bow season will be recognized as bogus and be dropped entirely.

  45. You know, way, way back, somebody came up with another piece of technology that was all about making hunting a little bit easier. It was called a gun. When bow seasons were established, it was done exactly for the opposite reason of making things easier. It was done to up the challenge level. We seem to have finally completely buried that aspect of bow hunting and continue to march along that same path of "making it just a little easier". With that mentality, who really needs some special season? We have finally corrupted the basic reasons for a special bow season to a point where everything is considered legitimate simply on the precept of making things a little easier. And we are able to justify every incremental step using that same phrase. But what is lost now is the fact that bow season was meant to be a reversal of that mentality.
    1 point
  46. That's a great definition for as long as it stands. But we have seen how easy it is to arbitrarily change equipment definitions in bow seasons. You are setting up your own definitions, but you have no legal or authoritative standing to set those definitions and as we have seen, even if you did have such standing your definitions would only hold until the next guy comes along with his ideas of what constitutes legitimate equipment in bow seasons. Let's face it, today it is a free-for-all with an "anything goes" mentality. If someone wants your season, they will have it. It's just a matter of time. If muzzleloaders want to get into bow season, it will happen, and no amount of re-adjusting equipment logic or definitions will stop them.

It would also be bad for US energy prices as Saudi oil would be stopped and held hostage like it was when OPEC ruled in the mid 70's.
