Pay it forward happens a lot on here and I'm glad to be a member . I've seen donated fishing lures , hunting clothes to someone who could use them , donations for youth hunt prizes , trail cam to someone who could really use one , donated bow, opportunity from members to borrow a rifle or ML for my daughter and most recently a chance to borrow a rifled barrel for my daughters shotgun . We both are so happy to be able to finally get her gun shooting tight groups and comfortable for her in her shot and pull the trigger. When I even see these random acts of kindness it makes me happy to be part of the NY hunting family. Information is best gathered in the field but I've also learned so much over the years on here. I love sharing my photos and moments with you all and enjoy what you post as well Thanks for all you folks do on here ! Jay12 points

Just put my cams out last week and got this cool looking buck. Talk about having "character"! Another good one! Blurry, had to zoom in.6 points

A few bucks at the zip-tied mobile licking branch. Some in velvet, some hard-horn. One still has velvet on its antlers. I started this overhanging branch last winter. They have been pounding it. I plan on sniping the end with all the saliva and pheromones off, transporting it in a plastic bag, miles away to another mobile licking branch, and zip-tying there. I move the branches around all season. It makes the resident bucks think invaders...alien bucks are moving into their range. It's the most effective way to keep bucks around IMO.6 points

I'm not sure why everybody isn't using a "life line" with a prusik hitch on all their tree stands. Do they work with climbing sticks or screw in steps? Yup...... Gee, how about climbing stands? Absolutely they do...... Well good golly, they CAN'T work with ladder stands too, can they? Does Howdy Doody have wooden balls? You're darn right he does AND that a "life line" and prusik hitch WILL work with any and all types of elevated hunting. Sorry for the passion................carry on.3 points

It's been a hectic summer with my wife and I getting our living room remodeled. We added a wall to the living room and created an office for me that attaches to my work room. Few pics... Added a couple of drying walls The work room still needs some work. I plan on doing that this spring after I make some money of the venture. Not sure about what I'm going to do with the walls yet, need to add a sink too... Horn porn!!! We'll see how it goes. I have lots of connects around here that are promising to bring me their deer...lol2 points

Years ago I'd get together with four friends to do the annual 'Tenderloin Trip'. It was an ice-fishing gig on Sodus Bay where everyone brought grills, venison, corn-on-the-cob, chili, clam chowder, and even Dinty Moore beef stew. Standing all day on frozen water can be a lot of fun if you do it right.2 points
-
Yup , right in the beer cooler. And I'll admit to ice fishing a couple of times and enjoying it. Got bit by a dog who's owner didn't have it on a leash and dropped one of those tiny jigging rods down the hole. Good memories . FYI. It's difficult to fish afterwards without said little jigging rods2 points

Thanks I appreciate the help. Part of the reason for my decision is because I have been around bird dogs a long time and I see she is very prey driven and can be a super star in the right hands plus I see the pleasure she gets out of it and I dont want to deny her of what she is meant for.2 points

When it comes to two man platforms, the ones that go back to the tree or further back than just a basic 10 or 12" wide platform the length of the stand makes a big difference IMO. More important on a two man stand.2 points

I was off and contemplated it but yes, the bot flies would wig me out. No sense shooting something I have no desire to eat. I'll wait to it gets colder and they are gone. Cutarebras, maggots, bot flies and leeches give me the willies.2 points

I can't wait! I like all 4 seasons but I'm getting sick of summer. Plowing brings snowmobiling and ice fishing so it's a give and take. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Just bustin' the nads Pedro. LOL I have had to chase skunks off a 5x8 back porch in Schenectady. Now that's taking a risk. I rapped on the window once, bugger sprayed the porch. After that, I would just whip the door open and scream like a banshee. I got lucky, they would run and not take a stand.2 points

I wouldn't use that in any situation. Heating and bending metal will change the properties of it and you are using a step outside it's intended purpose. I am not saying it won't work and keep you from hitting the ground but the products that are designed and manufactured for the purpose of fall arrest have calculations and safety factor that are ASSURED to work. I appreciate the testing you did but I suggest you look into how fall arrest systems are tested. The "shock" of a fall is much different loading than what you tested. In my mind having an anchor point that MAY work is almost worse than no anchor point at all. With a false sense of security we may do what we wouldn't when not tied in.2 points

If anyone is interested in some entertaining facts/stories regarding the Adirondacks these books are worth checking out. They cover the Adirondack/CNY regions of NY from the late 1800's through the latter 1900's mainly. They focus mainly on hunting and trapping. I've found them at Barnes and Noble, Running's and Herb Phillipsons. They run about $20 per book . I highly recommend them.1 point

I believe NYS has a law that restricts high fencing that would contain wild deer on a property with out DEC permission...you need a permit and I believe all wild deer removed depending on the DEC usage permits. There must be a lot of those around..Oh that's right...deer farms1 point

I thought I had mentioned that in my original post, but yes, to clarify, I'm not intending to ask for permission until after the deer season ends.1 point

So this is something added to the arrow so that as blood leaks out the blood is now spiked with a powder that helps it show under certain lighting? If it worked, that would be awesome. But, I also have a hard time believing it's going to work for long. Surely the initial bits of blood will rinse the area1 point

Few feeder bands came through this area and dumped a bunch a rain from that hurricane that went north of me to the panhandle ... Hopefully my hunting grounds aren't a friggin lake by now. We'll see tmorrow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Go to google images and type "mosquito catch boxes". On the first line of pictures has pretty much what you pictured. http://northernwoodlands.org/knots_and_bolts/mosquito-trapline1 point

yeah but those had a sticky surface that would actually catch the bug. I went back to check these boxes and there is nothing like that here. several of the boxes now have spider webs in them but nothing to capture bugs.1 point

Here's a big 6/7, not sure if 7th is 1" or not. My dad got this one in 3N in 2011. One of the heaviest weight wise NY bucks he ever shot. DEC was at the butcher and aged it at 3.5 Much Different from this one, he also got a real big and nice mass 6pt that has brows and was an old deer. Don't have a pic on my phone. Wife and I love living in upstate ny , hunting, fishing , rolling countrysides , the change of seasons , etc . It's the ( insert dirty word) politicians that ruin this state . And yes ny has some excellent potential for big bucks but in the same breath we don't need the d.e.c telling us what a person can and can't shoot .1 point
