Got him guys. He didn't run 75 yards. I'm very fortunate and lucky. I have my own property that my Brother and I purchased and we spend two weeks every year here, just laughing and making memories. Our boys are nearly of age where they can start coming. I just don't understand why more people don't get into this past time. It's such a wonderful sport, it teaches so many great qualities and creates forever memories.61 points

Beautiful morning. I’m surprised I didn’t see any bucks. I did see a good sized doe though! 147lbs made it 25 yards.33 points

Each year for the last 10 years or so my son and I would travel up to Northern NY in early November for a long weekend of trapping. Last year was the first year we missed the trip (Covid travel restrictions) and this year my son is a freshman at college, has a part time job (at Orvis:-), and is traveling for sports…unfortunately not much free time for him right now. This year, because I would be solo, I decided I would continue with the trip and spend about three weeks trapping, hunting with my flintlock and stick bow, and fishing out of a “primitive” base camp that I would set up. A couple months ago I scouted out a spot for my camp…did some hand clearing , built some furniture, figured out my firewood/water supply, and prepped an area to put my fur up. I recently arrived at my spot (on a very frosty morning) and got my camp set up. I thought some of you would enjoy following along; cell reception is very unreliable where i have my camp set up but I’ll try to check in every couple days.22 points

November 10th has arrived! Seeking at it's peak! I'm going in for another all day sit. Came really close to getting one yesterday. TWICE! One I couldn't get stopped. The other just never gave me the shot I needed. In heavy brush. To all heading out, have a magical day! Since the 80s when I started bowhunting, on November 10th, I have killed 12 bucks. More than any other single day by far. And on the days I didn't kill one, I almost always have a day like yesterday. It's the time of year when bucks get crazy. November 10th. And the five days before and after, are in my experience, the best days of the year to be in the deer woods. Regardless of moon phase, weather, or most anything else. Someday, I need to make a dedicated thread to November 10th deer activity.20 points

Well,I got myself a small doe. I am not too picky right now,I wish she was bigger but i did not have a lot of time. I was almost back to my house after dropping my wife off at work and passed a jogger going towards my house. Good for him,he had to climb a pretty good hill. Just before I got to my driveway I saw a doe on the bank, not far from the road. So I grabbed my bow and snuck over to try to shoot her before the jogger got there. I did get her just in time before she got spooked. I got some meat for the freezer, things were not looking too good for bow season.17 points

Hunted dark until noon and didn't see a deer. Went back to camp had a quick lunch and went out with my buddy to set a blind so we can bring our boys to camp so everyone can go out together Thursday or over the weekend. After setting the blind my buddy dropped me at a stand and headed towards the swamp. He said to watch behind me because that's where all the deer have been coming from this year. Well a little over a 1/2 hr. Later I hear couching coming from the west and then spot a deer in the scrub making its way towards me. She basically came in without stopping. I projected she was going to cross a shooting lane at around 25 yards yard so I drew back and when she hit the opening gave a quick meeehh and released the arrow. It all felt good, and looked good until I noticed the arrow hit a bit high and didn't pass through. She ran around 20 yeards and the arrow fell out and then another 40 was outta sight but I heard a crash. Waited and hour and found her dead where she crashed right on the arv trail. Eneded up being 21 yard shot so I clipped high lung and stuck the broadhead in the opposite shoulder. Had to be real careful while cleaning her out, and tried pullIng the broken shaft out with the broadhead but it wouldn't budge. Happy to put meat in the freezer and I waited as long as possible and she didn't have a single buck in tow. Sent from my SM-A716V using Tapatalk16 points

Let me start off by saying Chef is definitely one of a few downstate members on my bucket list, to meet up with! Thats a solid group of guys down there. I know I'd have a blast at one of their GTG's!!! 2nd....I am by no means, in any way, a prude. I appreciate a raunchy joke now and then, like most all of us do. But....this is supposed to be a family forum too. I know for a fact that young people come here! My grandsons have since they were around 11 years old. I know too they hear much worse at school, than anything posted here. But my point is, we have to have a baseline of rules, followed by ALL of us to keep the integrity of this forum on the upside. And at times some just push the envelope a touch too far. In any number of different ways. A warning from a moderator should be more than enough to know that ok....this is a bit over the top, I'll have to not do "this" HERE??? Then just go about your business. What is shared outside the general forum, in PMs and texts, is fair game! Have at it! Common sense should tell you, if what we are posting, is appropriate for "everyone" who may read what you post. I know everyone won't agree with what I just said. But it is my honest opinion. We are all entitled to that. Every one of us here, that makes up the bulk of this place, has, and should have, that entitlement! It's all of us as individuals, that make or break a good thing. I also hope to see Chef back soon! He contributes so much more, than he ever took away from this forum.15 points

5 bux 1 hot doe and a nice 8 fighting off the other 4 bux who keep pressuring them. Something to see grunting fighting tearing it up. Just need her to bring him by a bit closer12 points

Long story short. I'm beat. But had close encounters with two really nice bucks. One early and one late today. Passed up a chip shot on a smaller buck in between. Does are coming in. Bucks are chasing them. Right on time for Nov 10th magical day! This was by far the best day hunting so far this year.12 points

Finished up early the other day and spent the afternoon looking for deer…found lots but no bucks (a deer hanging in camp would be cool)!11 points

Yes sir…although somehow I convinced my wife to join me for a couple days… she doesn’t know yet, but she will be muling back some fur and a bunch of fluorescent minerals I found when I was up last…wheels were close to rubbing the wheel well because of all the weight!10 points

After hunting my property for a couple years in pop-up blinds, I finally build a permanent blind - finished just in time for rifle season. What kind of blinds is everyone else using?9 points

Bingo. Chef will be allowed back if he chooses. The thread is gone for good though, which is a bummer, I’ve posted in it and it’s been a good source of crap to send my friends outside of here.9 points

11/10/21 This morning Kunox and I tracked a buck that was shot last evening. The hunter and a friend had followed blood a short distance before losing it, then continued for about 50 yards before calling me. Kunox made short work of this 370 yard track. The buck had turned and gone in a different direction than they were looking last night. He was very happy to get a morning leg chew. The hunter said he would have never found it without Kunox….something trackers like to hear.7 points

It has nothing to do with being offended or anyones political party. There are forum rules, and if you can’t follow them, then you suffer the consequences.7 points

Woke up late getting ready and heading out. Wife showed me a picture of a bear that was spotted not to far from one of my spots so hopefully he shows up. Picture was taken at 8 o'clock last night7 points

I was able to get a few traps out after getting camp set; on my first check I caught a muskrat and a boar coon. I should state that my trapping goal is not to put up big numbers or target certain species…I want to catch a variety of fur, and have fun scouting, trying different sets, and putting fur up!7 points

Hunters, I was getting discouraged. Haven't seen much and with the weather so warm, 65 degrees I was irritated. Well, enough said BBB = Big Buck Bleeding. I saw movement about 70 yards out and a decent rack. I hit grunt twice and he was on me. I put a muzzy through him at about 5 yards, I can see blood from the stand. I'll know more after my Brother finishes his hunt, I'm not going to mess his hunt up. I did hear crashing and know I double lunged him. Pics to follow.7 points

I have removed the Todays Chuckle thread for now so that We can go through it and make a determination if it will be kept. There have been some recent posts that took things way too far. The individual that posted these things has been warned multiple times in the past by both Eddie and I, and he is now gone. Please keep things fairly clean and family friendly. We are pretty lenient most of the time, but if you are warned multiple times and keep breaking the rules, you’ll find yourself out of here.6 points

And with this post, I think I’m current. Today was a very busy day! …a good busy!! (Just remembered I left one of the coon I caught today at my set after remaking it…errrr. Should be fine when I grab it tomorrow (unless something else does before I do!)6 points

I don’t agree with a lifetime ban or altering bucks for taxidermy or receiving money from an online forum store selling merchandise to never be refunded . But that’s just me .6 points

I saw nothing this morning. My girlfriend had texted me that she saw four deer in a field down the road heading to work this morning and two of them were bucks. We saw two bucks in the same field on Sunday morning. I went there mid day to check the wind and I came up with a plan. I set up my doe decoy (AKA Kaitlyn) and I blended myself in on the hedgerow. At 4:15 I looked across the field, about 250 yards, and here comes a tall eight pointer on a B-line towards my decoy. I got my crossbow raised and when he was about fifty yards out he stopped. He back peddled about ten yards and began to slowly wandered off. I bleated a couple of times and he would stop and look but continued to walk away. I thought it was going to happen tonight. That was one of the coolest hunts, my heart was pounding out of my chest!5 points

Well slick , I didn't ban or give Chef a time-out . I don't even know what the post was that caused the stir . I don't go into the Chuckles forum as I prefer not to see that garbage . I had gotten PM complaints from a few members about posts on that forum and told those members to contact someone else as I had no intention of looking at the Chuckles forum .5 points

Slow morning here in 8H. Cams pretty slow too, especially of big bucks. I’m guessing a lot are locked down now. I find this time pretty frustrating and either feast or famine on the stand with no rhyme or reason to it other than getting lucky and being right place at the right time. I’ve got one or two more sits left in my NY bow season then off to Kansas Saturday for a week. Good luck to all those out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

I was also rewarded with another rat, boar coon, and a beautiful big grey fox! I do love those MB-550 os…no paw damage and hopefully not too uncomfortable for the critters. I skinned the fox out with the claws and will tan him later.5 points

I didn't see the post in question here but if a member goes over the line, he should be punished. If he is a multiple time offender that has been warned numerous times and keeps it up, he deserves the boot.5 points

Its a good thing nobody but me knows all the bucks don't lock down at once. Maybe I will have the woods to myself......4 points

Big one just cruised in behind me. Saw him at 40. Not sure of headgear as I’m staring into the sun. Built like a truck though. Grunt didn’t slow him down. Only saw him for second.4 points

There were more times than that. Believe me, I like Chef as a person and have even stuck my neck out for him in the past. He should have gotten the point before this. I do not enjoy banning people, especially long time members, but people can’t just keep breaking the rules, which we are very lenient with in the first place.4 points

Tough crowd the other day! (Porky got a free pass…I have put one up in the past but very awkward to flesh and tan with all the quills on the other side)4 points

So here’s the full story…shot him late yesterday, and found guts everywhere at impact but barely any blood. I watched him run toward my house (this is about a quarter mile into the woods on my property), and his blood trail followed along the creek that runs parallel to the trail I take to go home. Got up this morning and started tracking at 6 AM (thanks everyone for the advice), tracked his blood and guts for an hour, about another quarter mile through my neighbors’ properties into a swamp. Turns out this is a huge buck bedding area…huge rubs and scrapes everywhere! Had to carry him back through the mud and water, but totally worth it. The coyotes only ate some of the intestines, and left everything else. Other than the bad shot, overall still very happy!4 points
