  1. maybe they should move it to the bottom so the less intelligent people who shouldn't be attempting it can realize the potential dangers beforehand...........

  4. It's the "I'm going to purposely get myself into deep doo doo, and when I do, I fully expect someone else to come bail me out" mentality.

  5. I guess anything is possible but I think that when it comes to all these alleged sightings its less of a Mountain lion and more of a Mountain of Lying.

  6. they're pretty down to earth, I'm just another hunter that happens to be successful and confident, kind of people. I've met them at shows. tough losing him when not that long ago their "pop" Larry passed can't be an easier.

  8. The problem is that the "doe option" isn't available to everyone everywhere in NYS. There are WMUs that have no permits, and others where they are severely limited. See that's the problem. Everyone tends to only see what is going on in their backyard and try to dream up restrictions and regulations to spread all over the state.

  9. Below are some photos from the past couple of weeks of this winter's Appalachian Eagle Project in New York. These images are from sites in Delaware and Otsego Counties that operate under my license to possess deer carcasses. For more information visit http://www.appalachianeagles.org/. To read my article on Golden Eagles in NYS, go tohttp://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/99834.html There are 10 Bald Eagles in the last photo. I was going to have you guess but it is too small to see detail. That's a napping bobcat in the 5th photo.

  10. Friends, Sadly another member of the Benoit Family has passed away on 9 February 2015, only 16 months after the passing of Larry. http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/whitetail-365/renowned-vermont-tracker-lane-benoit-dies-at-60 I truly enjoyed watching and listening to Lane on video and at seminars. I spoke to him a few times at seminars and shows. He always had an easy smile and happy way about him. His enthusiasm was pretty contagious. He was a great tracker and teacher of tracking. He will be missed by many deer hunters, especially those who hunt big woods. Our prayers go out to his family. May he find good tracking snows and a joy of the hunt that will be never ending. R.I.P. Lane.

  11. It was a dumb idea to challenge a mountain in those weather conditions and put others at risk by having to be part of a rescue team .

  12. With all due respects to the survivors and loved ones.. It sounds to me like one more dumb shit out of the gene pool.. I'm happy that the people who had to respond to the emergency were not killed or injured in thier attempt to save her stupid ass.

  13. Sounds like all the deer season restrictions and other tinkering and bending to public pressure groups is being put off for another year. According to the most recent issue of NYON, the DEC has announced a postponement due to time. So these concessions and allowing the NYS hunters run the deer management programs will have to wait for another year.

  14. I would bet there are more pet monkeys and/or alligators in NY than Mt. Lions in NY.

  15. I suggest finding the photo and doing a Google image search. The last time someone sent me a photo of a mountain lion supposedly taken in NY, it turned out to be from our west. I have wolf photos at a camera trap from an AEP site in the UP in MI. I could just as easily post them in the AEP thread under game cameras with my NYS photos. The habitat is even similar looking to here. Let the buyer beware.

  19. Sad day for sure. I always remember his excitement when he shot a really nice buck. (I think it was in the second video they put out.) I was happy to see they get as much excitement out of it as many of us do even after taking so many. RIP Lane Benoit we will miss you dearly!!!

  22. So you want your "choice" to take two deer but want to tell a hunter his "choice": should be modified? What about the guys in the limited or no doe permit areas? They don't have the option to just take an extra doe.

  23. I suspect some of them will probably take up bowling or squirrel hunting or something ..... lol. Imagine what it would be like to be in an area of low deer population, with little or no chance at an antlerless permit, and then someone comes along and tells you that more than like the chances are pretty good that any buck that comes along will not be legal to shoot. That's kind of like telling someone that you are welcome to spend your money on a license, and go out and sit in the woods, but you can't take anything. Sounds like a real deal to me. I think I would likely find another pastime. A trip to the supermarket will be necessary if they want that freezer filled.

  25. I picked up a Rossi model 518 stainless looks to be made in the mid 90s And didn't have a scratch on it! It's a 6 shot ss 4" barrel with fully adjustable sites. Similar to this one. And tommorw I'll probably head to tioga sportsmans club or a friends house to shoot, should be mid 20s after noon! ($324 with tax out the door and original box, Mclains in west corners.)

  37. I have no idea of who the guy is that wrote that rambling essay, or why I spent the time reading all of that. It was signed simply MJ, with no info on why his opinion is any more important or credible than any of ours. I will say that the AR lobby is a very dedicated, vocal, and determined group of hunters that have used every thing at their disposal to pressure the DEC to yield to their voice. Good idea? .... Bad idea? .... I have no real predictions. I do believe that passing AR and/or some of these other pop-fad management ideas will likely cost some unknown amount of our dwindling hunter base. That seems to be the current trend, to be regulating our numbers away. Hey, if that's what the majority of hunters want, I am getting a bit too old to be losing sleep over it. The future of hunting will be whatever it will be with or without my concern ..... lol.

  38. 1) I'm not saying to kill all the stupid people, let's just remove all the warning labels & the problem will sort itself out! 2) I changed my horn to sound like a gun shot & now the people move out of the way a lot faster !

  42. I'm into modern technology, but thanks for the pic. Good looking Muzzleloaders though. Using your logic on real and fake is a bit flawed I think...Lets make an analogy, take fake breasts for example....if you can see them, and possibly get a feel on them, then they are real enough. HA!

  44. Well, let's see now-where to begin. Still going to court for this bs on the car. Went today, the Public Defender proved I had been totally legal-citing all the evidence she had in her file-nonetheless, I have to go to trial to prove my innocence. Apparently, innocent until proven guilty, went out the window. Now, it's guilty until proven innocent. I remember some years ago, when I was hunting on East Mountain in Philipstown. I had this one ECO check me 4 days in a row for my license. I was absolutely legit. On the 5th day, he was up there again, except he had this rookie ECO with him. I was coming out of one section of woods, crossing a dirt road to get to the other section. Once again, I get asked for my license. This time, it was by the new ECO. He told me to put my gun on the car, and show him my license. I said that I would not put the gun on the car, until I unloaded it. This fool kept at it, until I had to comply. When I finally did put the gun on the car (he literally would NOT let me unload it), he told me he could give me a ticket for that. I responded that he told me to do it. The more experienced ECO pulled him aside, and reminded him that he did instruct me to put the gun on the car that way, and told him that giving me a ticket for it would not be such a good idea. The point is, some of them are real pieces of garbage. I respect people when they respect me. And, I do NOT support the police state mentality that seems to be so prevalent today.
