  1. I got a late start this morning and never got on stand until around 7:25am, legal shooting time was coming fast! It seemed like I was there longer but the time of my cell phone pics says 8:25am and it only took 5-7 minutes to reload, climb down and waddle the 70 yards or so to the buck. He came in with a doe and was trailing her. Momentarily I considered shooting her as I figured the shadowy figure in back was going to be her fawn and they SHOULD have got my scent any second. She flicked her tail a few times and continued to head towards the little creek. Then she jumped across the creek and headed up the other side. I had just noticed the horns on the second deer and figured; don't blow it, take your time. He took two steps up the bank and stepped into my window, BANG and down he went. Nary a twitch................ I used my NULA smokeless ML with Parker 275gr BE bullets. I killed him out of the same stand I shot the archery buck from. I could tell he wasn't the same size body as the other buck so didn't call for dragging help but wished I would have! He only weighed 130# but the drag is mostly uphill. Got him home, weighed, hung and skinned. I'll get cutting tomorrow AFTER I take my sweetie pie for brunch.

  6. Got him this morning, 75-80yard shot. Just a little back got both lungs and some liver. Very Happy to have #2 goin in the freezer. It's been the hardest year in my 18 years of deer hunting.

  7. determined. You guys and gals really need to be acknowledged at how hard and dedicated you still are at the end of season. I mean, I hunt archery very hard and then maybe a day or two with the gun but to continue all the way up to the end is awesome. I love reading the live thread and notice sightings are a rare thing this late but you keep at it... Go shoot some some big guys!

  9. Long time lurker, love to follow the season through posts but never sat down and registered...till now. Not sure why this topic made me decide to jump in, but it did. Ozonics is expensive, I get it, but I don't know of anyone who has actually tried it and said it doesn't work. I love reading posts when people say to practice great scent control and that's the best you can do. Even funnier when people say that their scent control works most of the time when adding sprays, etc. Unless you can stop breathing for the duration of the time you are on the stand, and manage to cover every square inch of skin on your body, you aren't going to fool a deer very often. Sorry, but that is the way it is. The bets luck I ever had with this is covering my hunting clothes un raccoon urine, which was fine when hunting with the college buddies, but coming home with that odor does not impress my wife. Deer have incredible senses and we certainly can improve the amount of scent we put off, but eliminate it? No way. Sorry, anyone that says differently is fooling themselves. This includes Ozonics. Winds shift when you use it, and it puts off a different smell that may not scare deer, but it certainly makes them aware that something new they are not familiar with is in the area. In my experiences that is enough to make mature deer nervous. That said, it works better than anything else I have seen, and I would say that 80% of the deer that are downwind of me with the Ozonics on will pass by, even if they seem a bit nervous. The best part is that almost never do they flip out and take off like they do when the unit is not on. Say what you want, but if you say it doesn't work or its a waste of money, then I say you have not tried it...and you certainly don't have to. However, the poster asked if it worked, and I assume he was looking for someone who has used one for input. Long term exposure to ozone melts plastic and rubber from what I understand. That is scary, but from most research I have seen this unit used in open ventilated area does not produce harmful levels. Extra to carry, setup, manage battery levels. Yep it takes more effort. Hunt with one though and you may find it worth it. Still not a cure all in my opinion, but it is a major advantage to extend the length of stand sites and let deer pass that might otherwise ruin your hunt. I carry in video equipment on all my hunts, so I have a heavy pack for sure, but I can tell you I feel a lot more secure in the tree concerning downwind deer with the Ozonics on. Lastly, regarding the TV deer that are unpressured and calm, wish I hunted an area like that. However, I bow hunt through the gun season in the northern zone, and man are the deer skittish up here after the guns start blazing away. If this unit helps me keep a few more deer unaware of my presence, allows me closer proximity to them, instead of seeing tails at the slightest hint of human presence, then personally it might be worth the investment. It is certainly not a necessity however. Sorry for the long first post, but I wanted to provide a different viewpoint.

"If we don't win today, we'll win next month or the month after that or the month after that. The worst thing we can do is do nothing and let those who are hiding out of fear of the NRA stay under the covers." He and his ilk want an unarmed populace in this country, and this is how he feels about the legislative fight in DC. I support the NRA.

  12. This morning around 730, I had 3 deer come out of the thick stuff at a full sprint. 1 for sure was a doe, the others not sure. Thinking either a yote or possibly a buck pushed them to me, doubt it was a trespasser. Around 10 min. later this doe tried to sneak behind me...but I caught her movement. Decent young doe probably 1.5 yrs old. Forgot to add, seeing some new scrapes opened up.

  13. Not a pretty rack, but a mature buck none the less. From the spread at the antler bases I guess about 3 1/2 years old. Most challenging shot I ever made. 120 yds, 20yds inside the brush. Iron (peep) sights, facing almost straight on. All I could see was his chest, the top of his legs & the white spot on his nose. I had to study the sight picture for a few reference point on the tree that was next to him as when I looked through the aperture I had a hard time picking an aim point on the deer's chest. I hit him dead center through the windpipe just above the midpoint between his chin & brisket. 160gr Hornady FTX over 49.5grs of Rl-17. 2500 fps Mv At the shot there was dead silence & no movement where the deer was standing. After watching the spot for several minutes & got down from my tripod & walked to the edge of the brush before I could see him. From the way he was bunched up he must have pitched down nose 1st. The bullet never entered the chest cavity. It must have taken out the spine.I hope to find the bullet when we butcher him. If you look cloesly, about 1/2 way between the muzzle & the left edge you can see the gray roof of the tripod stand 120 yds disdtant. Here is a zoomed shot from where the deer was laying. I think he was standing a little to the left as that large tree on the edge of the brush was what I used as a sight reference.

  14. So I came up again this weekend to pick up my snowmobile and hunt a other weekend. I didn't see anything this morning. Got the snowmobile this morning put it in the garage and decided to load the wood ring. A neighbor stopped by on his old 89 quad. I heard him puttering up the trail. He lives about 1/4 mile away from me and between us is swamp and thick trees that you can't even walk through As we are talking I see movement deep in the woods. I tell him turn around and look their is a deer walking right there walking in the woods. I tell him I think it has antlers. I wasn't going to look any further. I said to him you know what I am going to grab my gun and circle around the woods on my quad see what that is. I was gone. I got off the quad and start walking towards my tree stand to where i think the deer will be going to be. As I am walking down my towards my tree stand I can see the deer out of the corner of my eye at 75 yards looking straight at me stock still. I duck behind a tree adjust my scope from 3 to 9 to confirm its not a big doe. Well there he was. He is the same deer that walked within 10' of me a week before opening day and same guy that I had in my sites on opening day and my gun didn't shoot. It was dirty. 1 shot it was over and good thing he ran 2 steps and dropped. DONE. When I tried to shoot a location shot for my neighbor to find me the gun again just clicked. Not the best hunting story. I do wish I did get him from my hunting stand but I look at it this way. 1-he walked with in 10' of me week before opening day 2-I had him in my sites on opening day and gun didn't work 3- I came back again for another weekend 4- he was shot right in the middle of my small property The last picture is him the week before opening day walking 10' from me. He is the king of our mountain area. I said a prayer and thank God and the deer. For a safe and rewarding season. I spend a lot of weekends scouting looking etc. He will be mounted. He is 205 lbs after field dressed.

  28. Not hunting today had my 4 year old and he wanted to go to Wal-Mart so decided to be a good dad and stop. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. I hear a loud crash and screaming next thing I know there is a brawl going on about 20 people smashing each other with whatever they could get there hands on. Cops show up and these thugs start shoving back and fighting with cops. Man I feel bad for these cops with all this feguson crap etc they can't even do there jobs anymore. Well thank you Amherst police for making me feel somewhat safe to get my kid out of the store. Only thing I could tell my boy is you see these people never act like that. So disgusted with some people in this society. Get me back in the woods.....

  33. Just as I put my phone down a small doe pokes it's head out at 60 yds. Hangs around a few mins and goes back in the brush. Had broadside shot but did not take her. If I'm going to get dirty now it needs to be a nice buck. Couple more mins and I'm done. - Deerthug

  34. Could be, but the deer around here ate themselves outv of house & home several years back & it's a hardscrabbke existance for them. not a lot af agriculture or mast. They survive on mostly brouse after the frosts hit. 2 1/2 year olds around here usualy have spindlier beams & less splay at the bases. One things for sure, he ain't no yearling. The fact that I shot him with my Dad's rifle that he bought 57 years ago really made it quite a thrill. Dad shot 2 bucks with that rifle, one in 1958 right after he bought it & just beforfe we moved to Chicago & another in 1967 after we moived back to P. Even though he made good killing shoits, the 180gr Corlocks didn't open up all that fast & both deer ran far enough that other hiuntes shot them & clamied them. AS I walked back to the house to get my tractor I felt like my Dad was smilling down on me as he would have been proud to take that buck. If I had been using my 8X57 I probably wouldn't have shot him because I've killed better bucks with it & it can thread a neddle at 120 yards. That's the 1st deer I've killed with iron sights since my last ML kill in 2001 & it sure isn't as easy as using optics.
