  9. 10/11/2017 rained a little bit and he completely snuck up on me. i was in a ground blind and he was less than 10 yds when i finally heard him. truthfully the 1st arrow buried into a 2 inch tree where he was walking across. He was going left to right and i was turning to my right - for me a difficult shot. he did maybe a 3yd circle and just stood and only gave me a neck shot as he was covered by trees.

  10. Was set up between crp field and swamp. First ever sit in this stand. Just had 5 doe pop out of swamp in front of me and begin working towards me feeding. One got to about 35 and spooked. Then they all spook and I could figure it out UNTIL I look across crp field and a couple walked into it to take wedding photos. Literally 100yds from me. About 60yds on other side of deer. The couple must like the old fence. Lol. What can you do but laugh. I just let it go. They are still there. I am heading home. I hope they have a great marriage. Worth a ruined hunt.

  18. Just checking in with everyone. Been in the woods everyday for at least a morning or evening sit. I have yet to see a deer. I really wish my neighbor would cut his 100+ acres of corn! On a more important note. I had a chance to review the tapatalk app. I gave it a low score and immediately received an email from them asking for more detailed information. I detailed the mishaps of the iPhone users after the last iOS update. I hope they can get involved so I can start using the app again. It’s sooo much easier. BTW I had a great sit yesterday. Didn’t see anything, but look at the view!

  20. Well after anxiously waiting all summer for the bucks in my close to home spot to show back up, they finally did, the past week I've had 7 different bucks show up, much later this year than usual. And naturally I drove an hour this morning and a nice buck was under my stand this morning 5 mins from home... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

  21. Thanks guys , but no biggy half the fun is seeing if I can will them across...lol I have one and that was the first year hunting Rivers blind...It took for what seemed forever and I was watching the time, he showed before my timer buzzed for the opener of day......he walked out and hung in his lane way, went to the fence a couple of times and finally jumped about 10 mins into season.. but the second his feet hit the ground he was out of my lane way and in the woods...I had to re adjust windows(gun season) and find him again for the shot....72 yards but he fell behind the blind wht belly showing...not huge but first out of that new blind..

  23. Finally! First with a bow. It has definitely been a learning curve. 1:30 arrived at stand. Camera had showed nothing coming during the day but I wanted to sit. Cooled just a bit near 6:00 and this guy stops quartered away.

  24. 10/6 5:30pm. First time successfully calling one in. Been getting trail cam pics of bucks sparring lately so I decided to just tickle the rattling antlers a bit. About a minute or two later, this guy is rubbing a tree 30 yards from me. Walked 8 yards in front of me perfect broadside. Double lung with an entry and exit hole but not a complete pass through. Good blood trail, ran about 100 yards. Got some bigger bucks on cam on another property I hunt but the access is rough and I'm gonna be working a lot so I decided real quick that I'm wasn't after a trophy that night. Although once gun season comes I might pass on something this big. Just happy to have some meat and time out enjoying the outdoors. Don't be afraid to hit the rattles a little this early in the season. Good luck to everyone! Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk

  29. Just to get back to the O.P. here. It should not be illegal to hunt deer on Staten Island with archery equipment and the charges filed against this man are ludicrous. There are real criminals running around that place and the law is not doing crap about them. If he had a bow license and wasn't using corn in the woods, give this guy a ticket for hunting in a no hunting zone and using a crossbow and leave it at that. If deer hunting is not allowed there soon, the people will soon regret it, as the overpopulation will cause real problems at huge taxpayer expense. Check out the history of Princeton, NJ if you doubt it.

  31. Thanks guys, I retired after 32 years of enforcement and was a road patrol Lieutenant for over 1/2 my career. I'll simplify theses as below because there are differing degrees of the penal law, and subsections to each individual law. Simple trespass is when you are on property without invite or asked to leave and refuse. (violation) Criminal trespass is when you trespass and it is upon real property such as a building or confined area. (misdemeanor) Burglary is when you trespass and have the intent to commit another crime while trespassing. (felony) Possession of a weapon is tricky, again because there are so many subsections of law. Normally possession of a weapon is when one possession an object (weapon) while committing another crime, or with intent to use the weapon against another, or if possession is prohibited by nature of where one possesses the weapon. An example would be a billy club on school property, a screw driver while committing a burglary or a using a hammer when assaulting another. A lot of these examples fit the statute but discretion needs to be used. A person enters a store that is open, during business hours and has the intent to steal property from within they have actually committed burglary even though the store was open and there was no forced entry. It get rather complicated and any officer needs to examine the totality of the case and use discretion when charging. Again, theses examples are greatly simplified for the sake of discussion.

  36. Real bow? You mean a recurve or longbow - the equipment the bow season was started for. You must have missed/ignored my previous posts . If you are using a compound to hunt at all, you do it for ONE reason - it is EASIER. Which is fine until you want your easier to be the cutoff. I hunt primarily with a recurve but have stands that using a recurve would be difficult - so I take my compound that I shoot maybe 30 arrows a year with because it is EASIER. I get no enjoyment from shooting the compound - actually don't like it. When full inclusion hits, it will be gone and I will use a basic crossBOW for when I want easy.

  40. I changed mine years ago from a no to a yes in favor of them. I don’t have to hunt with one or with any one that hunts with one if I chose too. I do not care if someone else uses one. If it helps more folks get into hunting and bow hunting great. I am still going to be able to kill deer each year where ever I hunt. As NyAntler has said in the past maybe folks should just “shut up and hunt”.

  44. I've been going to Tony since he started doing it out of his house off Bay road, I can't say how many years that's been 20 or more ? I will not go a year without those Slim Sticks ! I also regularly get pepperoni , and hotdogs as well , although I've had most of his stuff . Im not much of do it your selfer although that may appeal to some . Sure you can find someone to make stuff cheaper , the trick is to find someone who can do,it better . Make the trip and decide for yourself , time the pick up trip with when I'm off and come hunt a day or half day with me . I guess you'd have to time the drop off with me to hunt , often meat dropped off in gun isn't ready till after the season .

  48. 10/10 At 9:00, Kunox and I went on a track for a doe shot at 5:00. The hunter said it was an extreme quartering away shot and the arrow was completely inside her. He had marked last blood. When I got there we drove into the field and the hunter said he had just seen eyes and it looked like it bedded down in the field. We scanned the fairly small hayfield but there was no deer there. He also stated there were 10 deer in the field when he shot. The hit site wasn't marked, so we worked the area and Kunox picked up some blood. He methodically worked that field......back and forth and kept picking up blood the hunter hadn't seen, and we ended up in the treeline. This is where the hunter had seen blood and marked it. We ended up going past the point of loss and into a cornfield. We found three drops within 10 yards of each other. Kunox was unable to show us anymore and was going in all different directions, I believe on hot lines. The cornfield has a huge weed problem, with weeds being waist high in some areas. We worked through this area with no luck. We called it at midnight with plans to come back at 8:00 after he took his kids to school. This morning we went back to last blood and again Kunox was all over the place. I did several restarts with no results. The hunter found some more blood as we worked an area nearby, just as we found the doe about thirty yards away in the grass. We were really close last night and I'm surprised we didn't find her. Great learning experience for Kunox though! Speaking of learning, or should I say "not learning", we saw another porcupine last night and with a strong grip on the lead, I took Kunox over there to see what he would do. He went into attack mode. The hunter shot the doe from the ground, and the arrow ran along the spine. We could not find an exit hole, but also couldn't find the arrow in the deer. He's going to let me know what happened to the arrow when he skins the deer out. No major organs were hit.

  49. I think when you break it all down it comes to the land you hunt, what it offers for food, water, cover and so on. You can own a lousy spot and you can lease a lousy spot. How much time you spend in the stand gives u more chances at success.
