  5. Up and at them again this morning. My buddy from Miami, Florida got his first ever New York deer last night. Arrowed a doe in 4J and she went 20 yards and fell in view of his stand. Pretty cool stuff, he’s surprised by how big even the doe up here are compared to the deer down in Florida

  6. Buddy of mine connected on a doe today. Birdsall. 8x I think. First deer with a bow. 20yd shot. He said it took a half a step after the shot and feel over. Magnus stinger broadheads.

  7. I got out this morning. The bucks were quite active as I saw 4 different bucks rip up the same scrapes that were untouched on my walk in this morning. One of them was a 3.5 yo 9 point that needs another year. Decided to sit out the evening hunt due to a migraine that came on suddenly and has stuck with me all day. I might try again Saturday morning as it looks like we will have a nice drop in temperature.

  8. I get that but after saying I would take the archery class and start to bow hunt for umpteen years I finally did. Been hearing I'd love it for so long. Don't want to end my archery hunt on any buck just to shoot one. my best ever gun buck probably 90" lol That was many years ago and dinks since. Have two does I can shoot to break the ice . Just want to experience the full swing of the rut hoping to get a shot at a good one. definitely enjoying myself ! Why'd I wait so long !?

  9. Did you guys know that I have a peep site on my bow? Do you know that you should look thru the peep when aiming at that heavy 8 pointer that's standing broadside at 18 yards? I guess that I didn't know that either... sailed it a foot over his back! Good news is that he never had a clue that I was there. Rookie mistake. 44 years of hunting and still making rookie mistakes.

  10. So I am out Friday night for a quick after work hunt. It was an amazing evening for movement. I was in the stand and had a 2.5 year old 8 pointer work his way into 20 yards in front of me. I didn't plan on shooting him so I took out my phone to video him. As I was slowly making my move for the phone he kept looking up the hill behind me. I turned my head to see what he was looking at and I saw another deer in the woods. Just uphill form my shooting lane and about 40 yards out. On this video the downed log is 40 yards. I was waiting to see what he was going to do and I see another deer working it's way up the hill towards the log. I could see glimpses of antler on both of them and was hoping I might see some interaction between them. Maybe a little brushing or clicking antlers. I wasn't expecting this. The video was cut short when another buck showed up and looked like it was going to go by them and right to me. I dropped the phone on the seat and put my release on. He broke down hill and never came out of the thick stuff. The ones fighting broke up and one was a very nice 10 that ran by me at about 10 yards as fast as he could run from the winner of the fight. Definitely was a 3.5 year old. The winner had a much bigger body and he came walking into another shooting lane at 15 yards. I was at full draw and when he walked out he was definitely mature but his antlers took me by surprise. Left side was a main beam about 2' long and not a single point. Right side was not even there. I was trying to tell if it was broken or deformed for some reason. I let him walk off and as I released my draw the darn arrow popped off the string and rattled it's way all the way down the ladder of the stand. That got his attention and he walked off. In that short sit I saw 14 deer. 10 different bucks. I saw 3 bucks Saturday night that I didn't see Friday and two buck last night that I am pretty sure were repeats. Saturday night I went over by the log to see if there was a broken antler there from the winner. Nothing. I can't believe he could effectively take on a challenger with just the one antler. I get the bigger body size would help and have heard stories of bigger bodied less desirable bucks running off ones that have been watched and hunted. Wish the quality was better. Well I am going to leave this post up while I try to figure out how to put the video up here. I will say this taught me that I never have made enough noise when trying rattling. Have your volume on.

  12. Get down and go to the arrow, and look at it. What you do next is going to depend on that. Noone on here can tell you what the recovery percentage is, as none of us were there to see the hit. The area you circled on the picture encompases everything from a dead deer in less than 50 yards, to a non-lethal meat hit lol.

  14. My five year old and I went out to pull camera cards about an hour ago. He told me he was hoping we would get a bear or a moose on the camera. I told him there was no way that would happen. Well I'll have to stop telling him that because I sure didn't think I'd get a freaking elk or whatever it is on the camera either! I am in north central Wayne county and I'm pretty sure there aren't and game farms around so I have no idea where this thing came from.

  19. Venison roast with Apple butter, onions and bacon on top. So damn good! Also had a salad but nobody but bionic wants to see that. But here's a pic. It looked a lot like the stuff in this field with some dressing on it.

  20. Woke up this morning to find my archery targets messed with. It's a usual annual occurrence to have a little buck beat up my deer target, but this time this damn bear got my stuff. Knocked down and scattered the deer target, and bit it in the butt and neck. He clawed at the bear target and took a bite out of that too. We've had a few different bears on cam around the house this year. It's one of these, probably the younger one. The deer target is 20 yards from the back deck. its on Yogi, it's on, I've got a broadhead for you....

  23. The video doesn't do justice to the two fighting. The loser of the fight was a very nice 10. Maybe 16-17" spread and G2's about 8-9 inches. I hope to give you guys a nice look at a couple of these...lol

  24. The big problem for leftists is when life begins. Roe v Wade says it begins at birth, but also restricts late term abortions because the fetus can survive on it's own at some point in the womb. The law also allows for prosecution if a fetus is killed in the womb by an attacker, even if it happens in the first few weeks of pregnancy. This is why leftist interpretation of the law is often so flawed. Individual circumstances arise that go against a lot of the things they interpret as being legal. If a case comes before the SCOTUS that revisits the Roe decision, the court may rule against Roe, but will have to clarify abortion law at that point. The big money is on putting the law back into the state's hands, where it should be according to the Constitution. That's just one area of federal overreach that will probably be considered by the SCOTUS in the future. Kavanaugh isn't going to be the tip of the spear in any of these things, but leftists know how he will support and defend the Constitution with his opinions, and that is what they are fighting.

  25. Don't let to many pass or you will be going into gun season without one. You need to break your cherry on one, get the first one out of your system and then become more selective. Don't expect your first one to be a whopper although it would indeed be nice. As long as you are enjoying yourself and having fun....that is all that matters.

  26. I figured I might try this. Late start to the year, but my dad came up yesterday, and we set up 2 ladders stands. I bought two used cheapy stands from a family friend, who is moving to Florida, abd is unloading as much as he can. I bought a 20' ladder stand, and a 15' for $45. I could not pass it up. I finally have some variety, and choices, as far as where to sit. I own 5 acres, in front of 68 ish acres that I have sole permission to hunt. I am feeling pretty good, and I have finally setup these 2 stands within pretty good cover.

  27. Well enough of that Bionic lettuce romance. Fresh homemade Venison ravioli in sage butter (that’s right just butter and sage!) sauce. Looked so good I forgot the hen of the woods mushrooms I sautéed. Fried in butter sage counts as a salad, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. Bucks all over this morning....just had the potentially 7th different buck within sight. Two studs appeared one after another right before the 7th.....they will def make me keep my bow on the hook for a while. They came into the field around 55 yards away and slowly progressed across without a care in the world. They also payed not attention to the blest or grunt tube. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk

  31. Love my Lee turret. I do the pistol rounds in it and then remove the indexing rod and basically use it as a single stage press for the rifle rounds. I like having all the dies set on the disc for the rifle rounds. It makes the set up and switching time less in my book. A single stage would be handy so I'd take it anyways. Using it for things like a resizing die if any of your calibers you will be reforming brass.

  33. I havent Been out hunting yet, and haven’t spent much time in the woods working due to family issues, but igot out the other day to check a few of my mock scrapes. All of them are torn up with the licking branches I wired up being used as well. I freshened them up with some Smokey’s and some pee in each. I checked Some of my cameras while I was There also. Between 3 cameras, I had Close to 7000 pics to weed through. The food plots have been hammered hard, both look like a mowed lawn at this point. I spent Some down time today weeding through pics, and what I found made me very happy. 90% or more were daytime, with a large portion being mid day. I have a very large population of does that spend a ton of time in there, and now the bucks are showing up with regularity, morning, mid day and evenings. I have A solid 8 point that I figured was 3 1/2, but have been told that it’s more likely to be 4 1/2. He’s just past the ears, has good mass, what looks like a kicker on one tine and some great brows. Another that I got long distance pics on one cam, is just downright big. Very wide with great mass, but I cant See his tines. He should actually be on one or two other cams from where he seemed to enter and exit the plot, so I’ll have to see when I check Those. There is also a 2 1/2 that has a 4 point side on the right, a huge dagger on the other side, and what seems to be a 3rd antler in between them. I’d actually like to Take him early if possible. He would be pretty dangerous to another deer while sparing or fighting. Here’s a pic of that one, I’ll share the others if I put One of them on the ground.

  39. Quietly climb down and as wnybuckhunter said check your arrow then go home or back to the truck. Keep going over the shot in your head and where he went in to the brush. It will be hard but grab some breakfast etc. and if you can call a buddy to help track him. Myself I would give him as much time as you can, I wouldn’t go back in till noon at the earliest. Good luck and take your time..
