  1. Tapatalk doesn't seem to want to work anymore with my phone.. or actually its probably just me navigating it wrong lol.. Yesterday A.M. My first morning out.. (Found out how much Turkeys and Owls get along..) Got setup on a typical roost ridge, lucky for me there was a Tom there,2 minutes After a soft tree yelp, followed by fly down cackle and my hat flapping.. he pitched into my setup, 20 yards left, but no clear shot. I let him walk away with his hen as he was heading the direction i did not want him to go..so I sat quiet and I let him be to try a roost attempt in another day or two.. After checking the rest of that property for a tom that wanted to be play, and then another property, followed by 2 more other properties with zero luck..I decided to go get some work done, On my last attempt to strike a bird I figured I would try my 12 acre camp, and as I had a feeling might happen, I strike a bird, sounds like a good one at that.. I got around on him and started reeling him in.. Just as i can make him out coming through the woods at 75 yards.. an owl comes in fast and lands on a limb between us and let out some noises Ive never heard before staring in my direction with intent.. lol as well as the Tom's.. The owls approach quickly sent the Tom the other direction and he never made a peep the rest of the day.. I Gave my brother some MRI of the days adventures.. and he went in after the same Roost setup but not a bird was there, and the hill was silent minus light hen talk.. He packed up after a bit to find the bird the Owl bumped on me.. He found him in close to the same spot as I did.. Called him in to 40 steps and the gun went click.. he quickly racked a second shell only to hear that one go click also... By now the bird is alert and walks off quick.. He knew where he was headed and got around on him and sat quietly.. 20 minutes later.. the bird lost his soul.. 1.5" spurs 24# 10" Beard

  2. I have enjoyed hunting turkeys this year emensly. I made it a point to focus all of my energy into public land. I can hunt my lease anytime but I like tax free meat, lol. I have done 1o/11 days(went to syracuse mets game for mothers day), only left the woods before noon twice, one day I had to be responsible, and today I filled tag #1 @730am. I have seen and heard so many amazing things this spring. I feel so fortunate. Today it culminated in a double with my best friend. Our kills happened 1.5 hours apart but it couldn't be more of a double.

  5. Kids Fishing Joe Biden was out jogging one morning along the parkway when he tripped, fell over the bridge railing and landed in the creek below. Before the Secret Service guys could get to him, 3 kids who were fishing pulled him out of the water. He was so grateful he offered the kids whatever they wanted. The first kid said, 'I want to go to Disneyland '. Biden said, 'No problem, I'll take you there on Airforce One.' The second kid said, 'I want a new pair of Nike Air Jordan's shoes. Biden said, 'I'll get them for you and even have Michael Jordan sign them! The third kid said, ' I want a motorized wheelchair with a built in TV and stereo headset! Biden was a little perplexed by this and said, 'But you don't look like you're handicapped. The kid said, 'I will be after my dad finds out I saved you from drowning

  6. This early season has been great. Birds are starting to get vocal, I've made some Rookie mistakes but I'm having a blast. Have been near Gobblers 7 out of 10 mornings, have heard more gobbling on public than I have on private. Set up under a Jake who told on me, I never saw him there until after daylight. He busted me, and sent 5 gobs gliding off. They did give me a show when he started putting. (I hunted those birds again today they seem to be spreading out.) Had a stud come in silent, I saw all the sign around and I just rushed through and bumped him. He busted me. Today I Called a hen in, she had 2 red heads with her, at daylight, and when she got in the logging road she just didn't like something and putted off with her studs. I did a monster circle and came in from another direction i did get to have some back and forth with 1 of the birds but they walked off with thier grumpy girl. I feel fortunate to have this many birds to hunt, it's been a great early season. Scouting is so worth it. We all want to be under the roost, but sometimes you just have to sit in a tall spot and listen. It's paid off for me this year especially. Ps. Those eggs are from a mallard, it was on top of a ridge and the only water around d is spring fed diversion ditches.

  8. Last regular season baseball game for school today. My kids on the bump trying to finish off a pretty strong pitching season: 6-0, 2.27 ERA, 55 strikeouts and only 6 walks(my favorite stat). They are currently the 1 seed so should grab a bye Monday. I haven’t seen him pitch in weeks due to my golf coaching schedule- 5:15 start today and I have a local match…hoping to catch some of this one today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Crossbows have taken off mainstream also, look at the rapid increase of muzzleloader privileges purchased since crossbows were added. In my opinion compounds took off mainstream as the hunting culture changed and guys are after larger bucks. If compound were not added do you think more would have gone to traditional with the current culture? I believe more would have. Would you be willing to push back 2 weeks the season you participate in to give the true traditional guy the same opportunity you enjoy?

  14. WTH are you talking about ..... Nothing you said here was said in any of my comments. You should go easy on the day drinking. First of all it's not 55 it's 35. And my ex wife struggled with it when she got into target shooting. Secondly there are guys here that can't draw 55 lbs so no idea what your talking about for sure. And my point was a 14 year old ( which is youth hunting age not 16) girl or boy for that matter is likely to struggle pulling back a bow but might get interested if they could use an xbow. Then once they turn 16 they are no longer a youth and would switch to using a bow because they are now hooked on hunting. But whatever......pour another one and enjoy the day. It's beautiful out. 17. I had a fun hunt today. Bird gobbled a dozen or so times on the roost and maybe three times on the ground. I thought he was coming but two hens came out first and both busted me. The first just ran past me and out of sight but the second putted and slowly went back in towards him. I got him to gobble one more time but I think she took him away Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  18. That's so specific that it may be easier to find an artist you like and commision something. Or an old Outdoor Life cover: Or this Frazetta piece. Thanks. I've let a lot of things - art wise - get away. I passed on a Hambleton Marlboro Man for 17K about 15 years ago. Now the definitive ones are well over 100K. I did get lucky on this Beatrice Helg, which typically sells for 20K and I bought for 700 at auction. Cost me 4K to frame it though. But I love it. My biggest regret was not buying every piece of Paul Evans furniture I could when they were only a few thousand dollars. Now they're hitting 300K. So it goes.

  20. Don’t hold your breath on art values. I have a friend who’s a pretty well know artist in the sporting art field. Thomas Aquinas Daly. The secondary market on art can be sketchy.

  22. Is this really true? My now 14 year old never had any trouble drawing 35 pounds when he was 12 (he's up to 50 pounds now). My almost 12 year old draw 40 pounds and my 10 year old is drawing 35 pounds. I know this is a rather small sample size - I'm just surprised to hear that drawing the 35 pound minimum weight is a barrier to entry into bow hunting.

  24. Years ago I bought a Savage Model 12 varmint rifle in 223 Rem to hunt woodchucks on the farm. A teacher came around here and there to hunt them. He peaked my interest and got me into it. We had piles of them and they were making a mess of the farm that's mostly hay fields. Numbers dropped off pretty hard after shooting 80+ each year. I still get a small number though. Yesterday I got the first one of the season. A couple more active holes with young ones I think but might have to put a trail cam on the hole to see what their feeding pattern is. Don't seem to be out when I'm there. Gun still shoots lazer beams with Black Hills loaded 60gr Hornady Vmax ammo. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk

  30. I do indeed sir. I guess the point I was trying to make, is that there are many, young and older. Who may not be able to draw the minimum weight poundage for a bow in NYS. This thread, along with the many others like it over the years here, will seldom change others stance on the crossbow debate. Just keeps running over the same old ground. At this point if it passes fine. If not that's fine too. This could be the first year of me not hunting with my bow. If the law stays as is, perhaps I will buy a better camera to take out "hunting" for early bow season??
