Lawdwaz
I just got home and flipped on the boob tube......channel 395 "Sportsmans Channel" on DISH: Full Draw Outfitters is on. First thing I see is a guy drawing his bow back as a big buck is walking across a field. The buck is walking and I'm grunting to myself, hoping to stop the buck for the guy 'cause he isn't! Finally the guy pulls the trigger while the buck is WALKING. I don't know the distance but it wasn's straight down, maybe 30 plus yards?? Lower gut shot is what we got now. But WAIT, the buck runs out of site and the shooter looks quick at the camera man and says "HE"S DOWN, RIGHT THERE!!". The camera man says yup, he's down! They go to a commercial and then come back with the hero shot of the buck on a creek bank looking deader than heck. The shooter thanks everybody connected to the deal and that's a wrap. I'm soooo sick of these bullshiit shows, they make me wanna puke. There is no freaking way that buck died that quick..........liars.
Jeremy K
Those hunting shows PAY to be on tv ,that's why they're nothing more then a long commercial. I can't remember the last time I saw a deer hit when the arrow passed through . I like how the camera man is already at the dead deer filming the hunters reaction to first seeing the deer . Moho81
I could never get into any hunting shows. Every time I seen one it was just one big commercial for a product or obviously staged in one way or another Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Now, maybe... And I mean maybe. The buck bedded. Had that happen to me where I gut shot a buck, watched him bed down 100 yrds away, and found him the next morning. But, I agree. Bunch of BS. I would have more respect if he admitted he made a bad shot, and should have stopped him before shooting. He should have admitted his mistakes, and educated the novice viewers (and reenforced those of us that recognized the mistakes) and been forthcoming. nyslowhand
I quit watching the Outdoor channel several years ago just for the same reasons the OP brought up. Way too many outrageous paid hunts, outlandish shots and of course the camera blatantly showing product IDs of apparel, equipment, etc. Definitely not the type of hunting us mere mortals in NYS encounter. LIke Lawdwaz mentioned, just TOO painful and frustrating to watch with any sense of realism.

Stupid Ted Nugent was/is one of the worst "slob hunters" I've ever seen. I remember him doing that kind of crap way back in the 1980s on his videos. G-Man
Only videos I ever liked.. Any by whitetail visions.. Or quest video group.. Both truly showed the deer respect and tried to educate on how where and why questions of hunting.. Cancelled all my hunting channels as the new stuff is crap

Taylormike
I agree with you all, shows are not truthful and definitely painting the right picture. All I watch are self filmed public hunts on YouTube's, I get so pumped watching these guys do it the right way.
wfmiller
Don't you all know? You're not supposed to stop the deer anymore. I just watched a show yesterday and the guy said you can't make any noise to stop the deer, because they become used to hearing it and it won't work anymore. Seriously the guy said this! He said to stop them you have to hang some scent right were you want them to stop.
BizCT
I hunted with an outfitter who was on a show. He said he would never do it again. The day after the hunter killed the buck, they had to go out and shoot scenes of stalking the buck that was killed the day prior. After editing and what not, the outfitter told me the episode was pieces together nothing like the actual hunt. Therefore, he would never do another showSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But most of my deer didn't read the script and don't use the trail I'm expecting them to.
CoffeeBoy
Meateater seems to be one of the few that's not a constant commercial and series of product placement shots. Steve Rinella also has a podcast that's pretty entertaining. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

I stop them but I will say that more than once I've made the MURRRP sound to do it and had a deer turn inside out and bug out of there. I wondered if they've heard that sound before and had an arrow whistle by lol

I started laughing and he took off. The next week he stopped on his own and and I put an arrow in his lungs. I don't know if I did it to loud or what, but it made me laugh like crazy. Bowshotmuzzleloader
We all make a bad shot now and then, it comes down to know what to do and how to recover the deer from there .. When those shows started in my mind all they did was make deer hunting look easy by having someone else do all the work and look like shooting fish in a barrel.. nyantler
Having done a hunting show I can tell you it is only about business at the end of the day. It takes a lot of viewers and sponsorship to finance a hunting show. It takes hundreds, even thousands, of hours of filming just to get enough material to do a seasons worth of episodes. Some are willing to do WHATEVER it takes to attain all those things... I can tell you first hand that 99% of these shows are staged BS... that doesn't mean they are not entertaining sometimes... but lots of smoke and mirrors to develop something that both gets viewers and appeases advertisers. I didn't care for the type of prostitution needed to maintain a hunting show, hence, the reason I don't have one today. You'll learn more watching amateur self filmed YouTube videos.
