  1. Both of these hunters are relatively new to hunting and are trying to help with population control at the same time. Size is irrelevant. But I guess I should scold them and tell them they suck! Right, WHAT are you doing shooting that? Perfect encouragement. LOL They are meat eating population control hunters. I salute the effort they put into shooting and congratulate their success and hope they continue. You apparently have no clue about hunting on LI and the population issues and snipers they want to enlist to cull the population Huntings In My DNA. I am a trophy hunter but I don't look down upon any hunter, we all hunt regardless of how or why, you should be a little more tolerant of others and enjoy in their success regardless if its a doe, spike or monster buck we all get the rush!

  3. It is no doubt a huge deer, but I am getting tired of seeing pictures of guys sitting a half mile behind the buck to make it look gigantic. We all know what the trick is, so people need to give it up already.

  4. If hunting was really in your DNA you would realize that every hunter has different goals & different ways to hunt. I personally have been hunting for 28 years to this day I could give a rats A@@ about antlers or a 200# deer. the first legal deer I get a clean shot on will & does go down. As I have stated so many times before I am just as excited when I get a 100# doe or a 180# buck & when that feeling stops I will hang up the Bow & rifles! NFA-ADK make sure they know it doesn't matter what anyone thinks every deer kill is a Trophy & they should be proud CONGRATULATIONS to both of them

  5. I could have passed up on the small buck one hour before sunset, but If I did, I would not have yet experienced: Taking game of any kind; Following a blood trail; Dragging a deer out of a marsh; Gutting a deer; Dragging a deer back to my car; Getting a deer butchered; Vacuum packing 50 lbs of deer meat; Cooking venison meals; Preparing the antlers and partial skull for mounting. You see, I did not grow up in a hunting family and am learning all of this for the first time at middle age. Had this deer been a doe or a buck with a monster rack, I would not have learned any more or less than I did.

  10. Those who threatened this little kid are all ignorant as*holes and have no clue about the cycle of life of all animals including humans. They put these wild game animals so high up on a pedestal and treat them as if they are above a humans life. The antis need to get their heads out of their a$$es and get one thing straight - most humans are way up high on the food chain and these wild deer, albino or not, turkey, elk, moose and bear are put on this earth by our Creator for one reason - our sustinance and nothing more. I say most humans because there are some slimeballs walking among us. With that said, I would not blink if this albino deer walked in front of me and it presented an ethical shot. Sorry my rant is over....

  11. You will most likely get mixed opinions/reviews because some bowhunters are still dead set against crossbows. I personally have lightened up on the crossbow topic and have no qualms with people using them. However, I choose not to use x-bows because they tend to instantly drain guys of their machismo! lol I say use whatever gives you the most confidence in making a quick & clean kill. Some day you'll look for ways to test your skills. Just hang in there and enjoy the time you spend afield. Good luck

  13. My son called me at 5:00 last night with pictures of 2 does he spotted just after work. His company in Rockland has an open field and far enough away from housing and roads and decided to give it a try. At 5:30, he sends a picture of a nice spike. Then, I get a call on the house phone that he just shot a huge buck and I had to come up and help him get it to the car. He thought it dropped right before it headed into the marsh. It was a 40 yard shot, 60lb Mission bow, and he's real accurate. He didn't even go another 40yds and dropped. Unfortunately it was pouring rain when we clean him up, but a beautiful, heavy deer. We took it up to a butcher in Orange county and he's having it caped and mounted. He's taken an 8pt each bow season for the last 4 years, but this was his biggest yet. I, on the other hand, am still waiting for my first. He reminded me we've been bow hunting 9 years and I still haven't gotten one. Isn't he sweet, (lil *&%#), but still a proud papa.

  17. I had that happen a few years ago . Went down to the basement to get some burger and when I opened the chest freezer there was a lot of moisture dripping . It had a 12 month guarantee and I had it for 13 months . No idea how long it was off . The power light was still lit . Lost my venison . Replaced the freezer and put a remote thermometer receiver in the freezer and the thermometer by my computer . It is 5 degrees

  18. I'm not posting pics here as much as I used to, but figured this one might be worth posting just for enjoyment purposes. This is a guy we believe has been on our radar for a few seasons and we have some history of pics and one arrow through him already. He should be 5.5 on our math. And yes, those are indeed brow tines. Every last single inch of them. A velvet pic we have puts the longer brow at right around 9-10 inches with the other 7-8 inches. Not many 8's break 140....this guy is going to shatter it when me or Moog kills it soon.

  19. My daughter has been sitting with me in a 2 man treestand, since she was ~10. We use Hunters Safety System vests and use HSS lifelines at every stand. My daughter was appalled when I told her she might not be able to hunt from a 2 man stand with me, as many times as she's been tagging along with me on my hunts over the years! If a parent has an ounce of brains in their head, they would think safety above all else! Do you realize in other states (PA), they have no such stupid laws and no minimum age to deer hunt?

  20. I have loads of white deer at my house. See em all the time. Had them run past my pool during the summer also. I was coming home from my windy hunt that I peed out of early and saw one at my corner with 3 doe. Pic doesn't look good

  23. I thought Astorino did well. Never really landed the knockout but hopefully did well enough to close the gap a little more. Coumo played the race card hard but didn't have much else. I hope he didn't fool too many folks with that nonsense. Our only real hope is to make sure every damn one of us gets to the Poll to Vote. Keep encouraging everyone you know to do the same and maybe we can pull it off. Statistically, less than 50% actually vote so it could happen with a strong turnout.

  24. Not speaking for Phade, but some hunters are protective of their area and don't like to,draw attention to it. I've taken to looking at a guys profile page and noting the number of views it gets after a nice buck pic. Is posted. It goes way up,so,guys are checking that person out after the pics. are posted, what are they lookin for idk. Perhaps info like where they hunt. The farm I hunt ,is controled ,managed if you will a large farm and few hunters. Guys won't even send pics to each other ! Want to seethem you have to stop by. Once it gets sent out ,you loose control of who sees it,and the whole area learns what you got. We've had poacher issues and work hard to limit it. Controlling pics.is one way . In the old days you just lied to others hunters who stopped by at the road. " any luck? " "no"! " how'd you do this year?" " oh a couple of does......" " where did you get that buck?" " in the woods......" I know guys with 150"160 qnd 170 class deer who don't enter them In Any club ,put them in any newspaper . Some guys are like that.

  32. What's with the white rifle? I realize having it covered in white may help when you hunt in the snow, but it sure sticks out like a sore thumb when there is no snow. Having one in normal green/brown camo would look less out of place in the snow than your white one does hunting without snow. You guys are covered from head to toe in camo, yet the gun is white. LOL

  34. I thought Astorino did well. He was poised, and was on the offense against the Fuhrer. None of the candidates made any gaffes, although Cuomo looked annoyed or pained at times. Or that just might be his normal expression besides the times he smiles when stripping us of our second amendment rights.

  35. Well, this just keeps getting better (and MORE confusing)!! This was the email that I sent to WNYBuckHunter's contact and the response that I got back... Mr. XXXX (DEC) – My daughter is 15 and is looking forward to hunting with a crossbow this year. I have a question regarding her being able to use a treestand or not, while hunting with a crossbow? According to the regs (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/46245.html ) , youth between 12-15 years old can use a treestand while bowhunting, but 14-15 year olds using a firearm can not. Can she use a treestand hunting with a crossbow? I have some 2 man treestands, so we would be sitting side by side, if that makes any difference. Thank you for the information. Best Regards, ZZZZZZZZZZ (Me) Mr. ZZZZZZZZ (Me) Yes, you and your daughter can hunt together from a tree stand. The requirement to wear orange and hunt from the ground only applies for junior hunters and their mentors when hunting deer or bear with a firearm. As the crossbow is not mentioned in this section, the restriction does not apply. Happy Hunting and good luck. Mr. XXXXXXXX (DEC) Call #1 to the DEC, I was told YES she can. Call #2 to the DEC (speaking to someone different), I was told NO she can't as the crossbow is considered a firearm! (She was quite bitchy too, like "DUHHHH, of course she can't, why would it be treated any different than hunting with a gun!") Email #1 to the DEC, well I don't know, as it's been a whole week now with no response!! Email #2 to the DEC (new contact), says YES she can, as the crossbow is NOT considered a firearm!! So, I'll be printing up the email and carrying it with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Seems like a lot of folks think that the moon and moon phases are a mysterious thing that have no correlation to the study of photoperiodism. But "the moon" is simply reflected sunlight and the bright and dark of the moon fine-tune the photoperiodic effect. The moon (reflected sunlight) effects many critters besides cervids (deer.) Grunions (a little fish) come up on the California beaches on the full moon, as do some species of salt water turtles, not to mention smallmouth bass. No matter when the full moon hits in May, smallies are up on the shoals during the full moon. Photoperiodism, fine-tuned by moonlight. The light triggers the suprachiasmatic nucleus in the pineal gland though the optic nerve, releasing melatonin, among other pheromones that effect behavior.

  42. Thats why I dont listen to theories anymore lol. You can start to hone in on it by watching local road kill numbers. Start seeing button bucks and fawns hit alot, that means the does are kicking them out, and moving around a bit more. Bucks getting hit more often? Seeking is starting. Ive noticed more road kills popping up in the last few days, mostly does but a couple of bucks here and there. All younger bucks that Ive seen so far.

  44. LMAO. Thanks Boys. But it would really be the work of this other Albany insider. But even if he pulls out - doesn't mean Astorino gets elected but I assume the Dems will run away from their own party or at least just stay home. If it is true - good. If Astorino gets elected - great! And if he can get the SAFE ACT repealed I look forward to hearing all your guns going off the next day - all day long! Good luck out there fellows!
