  1. I decided to sit down in the swamp for a while this morning to see what kind of birds were flying around. I saw some great action, but the highlight of my morning came when a hen wood duck came flapping out of the cat tails putting on the "lame duck" act while quacking up a storm. I thought she spotted me for a moment, but then something caught my eye from the shore where she came from. I thought it was a deer, or maybe a fawn at first, but suddenly I saw a little duckling run from the green forest and paddle for dear life once he hit the waters edge. A split second later, this fox came hot on it's heels and landed at the swamp edge in front of me. I was lucky to get 3 shots off before he turned tail and vanished before my eyes. This was a super cool encounter, and I was happy to come home with this shot! The duckling survived to see another day!

  2. This made me go through and check the last few years...I have taken doe within that first 2 wks and then doe during the gun season ...Bucks(usually just 1) were taken in between the doe kills...All this is doing and I'd actually take a bet on this...Is moving hunters that do shoot doe out of the areas they want doe shot. It has nothing to do with whether I am willing to do my part shooting doe..I already do that...it has every thing to do with how they want to implement more doe being shot. I won't support a bad plan. A plan that makes no sense..gives no incentive to go out and hunt the doe. Lets not play the..... incentive should be herd management card...for hunters such as myself have been doing our part in that regard... So what happens? The DEC comes in and says.... Hey thanks, but for your positive effort and the lack of effort on the part of other hunters. We'er now taking away your ability to shoot a nice buck as well as those doe, should one appear...Thank You very much for your support. I am taking a real burn on that..... Now the earliest I have taken any bow buck has been the end of Oct...but that's not the point. They want to take my ability to choose away, on my hunting grounds...not everyones hunting grounds.. no..... just for those hunters in 10 units...Not all hunters in those 10 units...just bow hunters...What the hell kind of attitude did they really expect from hunters, with a stance such as this?

  4. As with books,TV shows, radio stations, forum threads or most any social media,I like some and disregard what I don't like. In the relatively short time I've been a member here,I have received and given advice on a wide range of topics, seen some awesome pictures of deer and other wildlife and have gotten a few good belly laughs along the way too. So if for whatever reason I don't care for a certain topic or poster I simply disregard them. We are all different. What makes me tick may make someone else sick,so to me it's all good! The world would be a very boring place if we were all exactly the same!

  5. I don't care if it's a Canadian or a Russian or somebody from the US. It is all true and makes some interesting points that some don't care to admit, think about, or see published by anyone, anywhere. It's not the sort of thing where it makes a lot of sense to be shooting the messenger.

  6. Look its a good forum but some idiots love to stir the pot and apparently you like to do the same. Take it all in stride. Many of us love to hunt and yes they are experts and with that at times come some attitude. I find a few to be well basically idiots so I let them talk all they want and they usually prove my point. Regardless it's your choice but I feel the good and cool people outweigh the idiots... Learn to ignore them because they are everywhere! Hope you stay I enjoy your posts!!!

  8. You are dead on grow. They shouldnt be taking the choice away, especially from those of us that already shoot does and try to manage the herds on our properties already. They need to put an incentive out there for the people that dont think about it, or bother trying to manage their deer. Lets face it, not all hunters are as gung ho as some of us are, the vast majority see and treat it as a hobby they partake in for a few weeks each year if they have time. They arent really interested in what it takes to even attempt to manage deer numbers in the areas they hunt.

  9. Playing with the length of the d-loop will allow you to change your anchor point to one that is more comfortable. It does not change what is believed to be your correct DL (knock below eye), but it will allow you to play with anchor points without changing the bow DL. I also agree with a kisser. You can simply use a piece of d-loop to tie a knot as the kisser.

  11. You should. Even locally there are publications that might accept your work. The quality is definitely there. It won't make you a millionaire and paparazzi won't flock to your door but it's nice to see your name in print and pick up a little something extra doing something you love.

  12. I took a couple of days off this week, so I headed out to do a little turkey hunting this morning, no birds for me. Headed home and loaded up my stuff and went down to the farm to work on food plots. I stopped at the local feed/supply store and grabbed 300lbs of 15-15-15 and 30 lbs of buckwheat. Next I headed to my buddys house to load up a few more things, then went to the farm. We ended up getting one plot fertilized and planted with corn, one plot tilled and planted in buckwheat, and then we started brush hogging a new plot. Here are a few pics from the day... New to us harrow... Gorgeous day! Yesterday, i won a drone quadcopter in a raffle. Image quality isnt great, but its good enough to make it fun to mess with..Took a bunch of pics at the farm today. Heres a few...

  13. Assembly and Senate Bills Introduced Assemblywoman Gunther And Senator Gallivan introduced A8021 & S5817 Legislation has been introduced in both chambers which would move the crossbow from the Muzzleloader Privilege to the Bow Privilege, which, eliminate the 200 lb draw weight restriction, allow youth to use a crossbow during the Columbus Day Weekend youth Hunt and allow crossbows to be used for bowfishing. These bills do not change any season dates, but these changes are necessary to correct issues that surround the present crossbow language. With the Legislative session scheduled to end on June 17th, we have but 7 session days to reach out to the leadership in both the Senate and Assembly, The Environmental Conservation Committee Chairs, and you personal legislators to request they pass these bills. Please take the time to contact all of these legislators offices by phone, email and even consider writing a letter requesting action on these bills. It was through the diligence of you, our membership, that the crossbow was legalized last year. It is now time to once again rise to the occasion and make those contacts. Not just once, but every day until the 17th. Through everyone acting together we can and will once again be heard. Do you have a friend that would be interested in this information? 14. This is Canada's comedian's (version of Letterman) Top Ten List of America's Stupidity. We look like idiots! # 10 Only in America... could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 per plate Obama campaign fund-raising event. # 09 Only in America... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black, 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics! # 08 Only in America... could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes. # 07 Only in America... can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash. # 06 Only in America... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens. (probably should be number one) # 05 Only in America... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be called EXTREMISTS. # 04 Only in America... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote. # 03 Only in America... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike). # 02 Only in America... could you collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year – for total spending of $7 Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money. # 01 Only in America.... could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

  15. Heading out tomorrow for a weekend camping trip in the Schoharie Valley. A nice quiet weekend just me, the lil woman, and the dog. Cooking over the fire and ice cold beer! Man I can't even sleep I'm so stoked. Smell of the fire, bbq chicken tomorrow and a thick a$$ steak for Saturday night! Nothing beats being outdoors in the woods, even if it is a state campground!

  16. Well me and my buddy Josh went to check out a potential metal detecting spot yesterday evening. I was already running late but he convinced me to go (it wasn't too hard). We pull up and start walking towards the old house and I was tempted to go grab the detector but I knew my wife would divorce me if I took much longer. Instead I walked in to the front door. I immediately heard something in the ceiling. To me it sounded like a snake slithering. I figured it was some rat snakes mating. I held my hand up to stop Josh. "I heard something in the ceiling." I whispered. Just as I said that an ungodly sound echoed from the ceiling. It was part hiss, part growl and a quarter gargle. "And on that note, it's time to get the heck out of here." Josh said. "No way man. I gotta know what's up there." Well, y'all know me. I went back to the truck and got the camera. This is what unfolded. If something in the video doesn't make sense, I tried to explain everything in the description.

  22. The title says it all. I can come on here at times just to stir the pot but I always have the stance of helping or providing a new perspective on real threads. This place is THE worst forum for immobile jack arse self proclaimed geniuses I've ever seen. Yes;Worse than ArcheryTalk. Clicky too. I see it as a perfect representation of most things in NY- The majority are the problem but statistically occupy the most space so they are catered to and then are the first to whine when they can't have the Golden Goose someone else worked for. Got that off my chest- phew. Thanksfor having the forum, thank you to all of the sound contributors and a special thanks to the many deer pros that bless us with their insight here.

  23. I know people are really talking about the comment period, and that we must believe in this process. We should all do what we can. However, changes for the 2016 season are merely a formality according to the language I have been shown - and all of it really isn't bowhunter friendly, especially when you consider the sources. A gentle paraphrase would be - Access will always be an issue...bowhunters should be careful about making noise on the current regs proposed as the next step is early muzzleloader. We're in an either/or proposition at this point. Very small chance this gets in for 2015, minimal at best, because of timelines being pushed back. 2016 is it, however. Good thing Iowa is looking like a potential 2016 trip.

  25. One word of warning if you use a split kisser that slides around the string. it has a slit in it to allow the string to pass though. if you have a beard or a long moustache there are some shots that will literally bring tears to your eyes if some of the wishers find a way into that slit just before you shoot. It really gets you attention...lol

  28. Currently in 8C (at least it was a we years ago) you can take as many does as you want, just have to keep checking them in. not sure about the other areas but the WMU's impacted in Region 8 are a pretty easy trip to region 8 headquarters.

  30. Its an incentive to get people to shoot does. You want another buck tag? Shoot does. Of course there will be people that lie, you cant build a system around that, because no matter what you do there will be some bad apples. There are ways to make it happen, take your filled DMP along with the deer carcass, or head to a check in station (doesnt need to be manned by DEC, use processors, etc) and receive a tag to take in and redeem for your buck tag. Other states have similar things, we can do it here too. How exactly do you propose they reduce emphasis on buck harvest?

  31. Nice shot!!! The fox at our archery range take most of the babies to feed her babies. We have many geese but between the fox, raccoons and hawks they have a hard time making adulthood. After 2 weeks most are gone including the parent birds. (I think the parent birds leave in frustration!)

  43. I got out this past weekend and made a quick run around both farms to clean up falldowns on the trails. We also got the first plot tilled up, and started formulating our plans for each plot this year. We are going to venture into a couple of new things for us. Corn and Sugar Beets. That will be in addition to other plots with our usual plantings of PTTs/Rape/clover/WR, etc. We are also going to do one plot with buckwheat for a soil builder. 3 new plots going in this year. As soon as we get the existing ones tilled, the new ones will be going in. One of them needs alot of brush pushed out. That will be the last one on the list. Other two need sprayed and tilled a couple of times. I was hoping to get some spraying done this weekend, but its looking like rain so far, so that will probably be out of the question. Pic of some fresh tillage... I took the day off on Tuesday for my son's nursery school "graduation", and decided it was a perfect day to go fishing with him. We headed down to the farm to try or luck in one of the ponds. He ended up catching about 20 fish, all largemouth and sunfish. I didnt have time to do much myself, but managed to nail a few largemouth of my own when he wanted to take breaks. It was his first time out fishing, and hes hooked now. Hasnt stopped telling me we need to buy a boat lol. Heres a few pics of him having a blast...
