  3. I am NOT or will be a last resort! I have to say she is not having bad luck, there is the right time right place. I have not gotten a deer in 5years and would never think of giving up. If she is only hunting for the kill then she is missing so much. If she is hunting for the whole experience then she needs not to depend on others and get out and do her own work. Find a new place to hunt and do scouting, there is so much to learn and experience.

  6. I used to feel the same way until got those 2 infections...The first time the Doc wanted to put me in the hospital on IV , but I talked him into oral antibiotics and they did the trick.. The second time I was hundreds of miles back in the wilds of Alaska, and if I had to fly out for treatment it would have been a very expensive proposition, not to mention a total bummer ruining my hunting trip.. My "sissy" latex gloves are cheap insurance..

  11. He does not look like a yearling in 2013, I would say 5. Or if you want to get technical 5 years 4 months. Do we really need to argue this age of 5 or 5.5. Technically he would need two more months to be 5.5 and only if you have his birth certificate and can prove date of birth, lmao.

  13. so, if someone asks you how old you are, you actually add the "and a half" to your age if you're halfway to your next birthday?......I stopped doing that when I was 12.

  15. But seriously, my heaviest long bow buck...176 dressed, won three small, local archery contests with this eight point. Not bad for my neck of the woods. (I had a lot more hair then!)

  17. Yep it sucks here, please don't come hunt around where I do, the bucks are all small and sometimes I have to wear a third layer !!!

  18. Bow hunting is about hunting an animal with a bow with hopes of harvesting that animal...period. The rest is just your way of doing it.. which does not have to be the way everyone does it. Last I knew a deer killed at 60 yards is just as dead as one killed at 6 yards.

  19. Is she good looking ? I might consider sharing MY stand with her... On second thought, she really doesn't have to be THAT good looking... Why raise my standards at my advanced age ? Is she FEMALE..?.. Does she have a PULSE..??.. She'll probably do, as long as she doesn't TALK to much..

  20. Saw this video on the Facebook and thought I'd share. In short, don't apologize or make excuses for a deer you shot. A trophy is determined by the person who shot it. https://www.facebook.com/thehuntingrounds/videos/1066432803391461/ Chiefbkt

  21. 191# Adirondack buck shot in 2004, my first big woods buck. Most of the bucks I've shot have been in the 175-185# range.

  22. My brothers friend shot a doe that was weighed 201-209 dressed can't remember exact weight. It was the kids first deer and he had no idea it was big. He just thought it was a normal doe until the butcher saw it told him and weighed it. Not a whitetail, but this mule deer was 270lbs+ on the hoof. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. This is my biggest weighed buck... still not 200 lb. It was 196 dressed on the scale. Should have left the heart in to make it to 200. Caught him in a snow squall. Cut his tracks and ran him down.

  24. This is my being polite...Thats a damn big net you threw out there with that statement. You certainly need to remember the old saying about when one ASSumes. I have a giant gripe about this situation ...and I'm no trophy hunter and have never had a head nor a rack mounted ...Thats with having got my share of good ones....I know there are a lot of hunters out there just like me...always have taken more doe than buck but will be damned if the DEC will blk mail me into doing something I have ALWAYS done .Putting out an ineffective back door plan is not acceptable.

  31. I think everyone agree's he is a mature buck. I think just about everyone agree's he is a shooter. Is it worth bickering over if he is is three, three and a quarter, four or four and a half? Jeeezzzz! We need to lighten up and just get out and hunt!

  37. I have only hunted deer in one other state (Colorado) and I much prefer NY. The high desert of the Rockies does nothing for me as far as scenery, and cant touch the absolute beauty of NY's Adirondacks. I did learn first-hand that whitetails are a lot tastier than mule deer anyhow. I seldom have trouble securing enough venison in NY to last my family until the following season. I do love the cold during hunting season, and the snow. Not needing a walk-in cooler most years, keeping bugs and hogs away, and improved tracking are all big plusses. There is no place I would rather live or hunt. Whenever I travel, to any of those other states for any reason, I appreciate what we have here in NY more.

  39. I rarely kill a deer at more than 50 yards with gun and never more than 20 with bow... that is by choice... I just like it up close and personal, but I regularly shoot my peep sighted Hawken Muzzleloader with patch and ball offhand at 25, 50, 75, 100 and am very proficient at all those ranges. I would have no trouble taking a 100 yard shot at a deer with that gun and being confident of hitting my target. I choose not to only because I like the challenge of getting much closer... but I still would consider my effective range to be at 100 yards with that gun. What we choose to do and what is possible and still effective can be two different things. Some of you think that your "choice" is the only option for everyone else. Not even sure why you care... don't fret what you can't control.

  40. This was my sons first buck on a junior license opening day, firearms 2000. I never heard 4 shells pump through a 20 gauge shotgun so fast in my life, LOL. It was the evening people were stranded on the 90 near Buffalo in a lake effect snow storm. It also dressed at 217 lbs..

  41. I'm of the belief that as long as hunting remains the single best wildlife conservation method, we will always have hunting. But, as hunter numbers diminish so does hunting as the best wildlife conservation method. I think society should be just as alarmed by how hunting is being attacked... without it there my be no way to keep up with population growths in the animal kingdom that doesn't involve the implementation of some kind of chemical Euthanasia. Which will certainly cause a problem in the food chain of all animals and seriously mess with the ecosystem. Hunting is way more important to mankind than anyone really knows.

  42. Awesome, now we have people not only telling others how far their effective range is, we have people doing that AND telling them what bowhunting is to them.

  45. Well men can not think like a woman...if she has been out 2yrs with you at her side...if her stand is the one everyone has to walk past to theirs...then get out there and hour before all the others...the deer tend to back track as hunters pass.... If not then let her make what ever mistake she may make out of your line of sight she needs confidence and whether she says it or even knows it... you being there is squelching that. Find other woman hunters to talk to we tend to look at things differently...wasn't until I hunted on my own did I start bringing deer out of the woods took 7 yrs of being guided by every guy at camp.. before I said go away... I got this.....lol PM me if she wants to talk... good Luck
