I let the new mathews monster eat. She walked around my treestand for 2 hours before I shot her at 30yards.6 points

I don't get riled up over the little stuff if I catch him again I will call the cops he will get a 25$ fine and most likely do it again. You cant let little things bother you. I do this because I enjoy being outdoors not to get stressed Over A holes. I can and will make his life miserable if it continues but certainly not getting stressed and ruin a beautiful hunt over it.6 points

This really has the be the stupidest thread Ive ever seen on this site. Anyone saying the DEC has total responsibility on how many deer are in a given area, is not thinking about all of the other variables involved (habitat, food quality, food availability, hunting levels, predator numbers, etc). Talking about forgoing people's rights (whether you think they are important or not) to be able to spend millions to drop deer into an area so you can shoot them? Thats nuts, and theres no other way to put it. Dont have many deer in your area, but hunting is important to you? Hunt somewhere else, or buy a big chunk of land and improve it. Spend YOUR money to improve YOUR hunting.5 points

That's pretty ballsy to not only hunt your land in the face of denial, but to actually hunt your stands.4 points
-
You must admit, though....It seems like "behind the rump roast" would be an appropriate place to hide them..4 points

So it pops up in my Facebook feed all the time the picture with the big buck that says I stopped by your stand but you were at work. Well these are a couple of pictures from last week that did just that. and during legal shooting hours!3 points

you are handling it perfectly. Enjoy the rest of your hunt. You never know what when monster is walking behind you...am I'm not talking about Halloween. It can wait until later.3 points

I'm off for two weeks starting Sat. It's going to be highs in the 60's and overnight lows in the mid 40's, would I like it a bit colder? Sure . But no rain and low winds is a trade I'll take, toss in the fact that it's Nov. I'm not to worried. Low wind, no rain mild temps makes for an easy all day sit too.3 points
-
I decided not to hunt for that reason...now the winds have died down...Oh well doing something I never do during season...making a big pot of my French onion soup with bay leaf, garlic and half a bottle of white wine,,,have fresh italian bread and swiss to melt over it...3 points

its the real deal its from hunters creek outdoors whales NY NY antler has a pix also http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2015-new-york-whitetails-page-3.html he knows how to hold a deer but i think 153" is far fetched3 points

I would like to make a formal request of the DEC! Burn down about 1/4 of the Forever Wild Forest so something more than just birds can enjoy the land! Feed the deer in winter yards and relocate 20 monster bucks to Moose River by next week so me and all of my friend can get a deer, Thanks in advance for all your help! Cost in no object! Get it done!3 points

OK so..... I Will Not tell you what one friends wife use to do...but I've seen some of your imaginations on here...sure you can figure it out...lol Thats way too gross for me to want a deer that bad...but..it apparently worked for her... That said It gave me an idea, what doesn't, and being "sanitary" and scent free in the wrapper, and absorbant. I thought what a great long lasting scent wick...so out came the tinks 69 and paper clips to hang....Until one morning I saw a young 6pt walk by me....with one of them dangling from his G2...LOL...Went out and bought some wildlife research wicks...3 points

You need to educate yourself on bow tuning or find a new bow shop. Hang a piece of news paper shoot it at 10 feet and again at 20 feet and I guarantee it is not a clean tear.3 points

My dog passed this morning man. No lie. Wasn't going to post or say anything about it on here but this thread made me think of my dog so much. I feel for you I had my dog for almost 13 years. Like family for sure. She passed peacefully on her bed at least, were she had slept for many years. Im not on a Vaca but will be in the woods to relax and ease my mind a bit lets hope we both get er done. Much love sent from my way brother !!!3 points

If that were true there wouldn't be a problem with hunters complaining there are no deer... most are not committed enough to travel to hunt deer. Most aren't even inclined to leave their treestand when they aren't seeing deer. I have always contended that what most consider low deer populations is just personal bad hunting practices and an inability to see the deer that are present in the area.3 points
-
oh, well I knew they did something important.....thanks for the detailed clarification. Do they have a lot to do with gay marriage, welfare, health care and whatever else was thrown into this thread, or no? wait, I left out marijuana...3 points

One cool phenomenon when filming a gunshot is the vapor trail you get from the bullet. In this hunt, we got a great shot of this bullets vapor trail with the 365 yard shot. It seems to take forever before finally hitting fur.2 points

I just heard that the deer first went to an Urgent Care Facility, two blocks away, but the facility didn't have automatic doors, so the deer just hung out in front of the place for a while, bedded down and eventually moved off to the Hospital..2 points

Caught a big boar coon today.. But his tail was only about 3 inch long.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I will always look for a rest first, shooting rail, tree, limb, elbow to knee. But sometimes you only get a freehand shot. That's why you should practice it until you can hit what you aim at.2 points
-
maybe they could just relocate them on an "as needed basis".......hunter orders half a dozen deer for opening week, at a price of course, and DEC fills the order from the overpopulated area.2 points
-
Listen, if you dont understand what carrying capacity is, then you are completely lost on this subject. Moving more deer into an area where the habitat cannot support it, will not do the deer any good.2 points

Two Monroe County sheriff's deputies happened to be at the hospital when the deer staggered in. Assisted by UR's public safety officers, the deputies took the deer out of the hospital. "They strapped it to a gurney and wheeled it across the parking lot," said Cpl. John Helfer, spokesman for the sheriff's office. The deputies called animal control about 5:40 p.m., and the deer was euthanized. From the D&C. I guess those "trigger happy cops" may have called for back up.2 points

Soooooo , who got to put a Tag on the deer ? Did they call an ECO to find out if it was legal ? Hmmmmmmm !2 points
-
Thats not what the regulations guide says. The OP may want to give their local DEC officer a call to clarify.2 points
-
If it was already strapped to a gurney, then why couldn't they just get it to the roof and have it air lifted to a vet????2 points

Just got done repairing a 40' flag pole that wind had the lift bouncing all over the place If your out hunting in this today be extra cautious and hunt safe good luck2 points

I will say that when it comes to deer population management, the buck really does stop with the DEC. They are the ones with Cornell supposedly overlooking and helping with the marvelous statistical methods which they are constantly telling us are flawless and endorsed by great statistical institutions. They are the ones with their fingers on the antlerless permits allocations. They are the ones that have all this staff of highly trained biologists. They are the ones that in the end are charged with being sure that the proper outcomes are arrived at. The only thing that hunters are responsible for is the final pull of the trigger finger which is heavily controlled and regulated by the DEC. Unexpected natural causes such as weather can upset plans, but then it is up to the DEC to take remedial actions in the following year/s. If landowner access is a problem, then perhaps there is an area that they need to really work on. At any rate, that is not a problem that hunters can fix or it would have been by now. You have areas where deer are scarce, the DEC has the power to control that all the way to totally shutting down the season if need be. You have areas of too high a population, the DEC has the ability to control that all the way to totally opening up deer seasons to year around, or unlimited and unregulated and free of charge antlerless harvests. So unless we reach the point of not having any hunters at all, the DEC has total control of all the tools necessary to adjust deer numbers to whatever level their CTFs determine is to their liking (or financial benefit). If they can't meet their goals, that is an internal problem within their own walls that should get straightened up. So you all can beat on bowhunters and gun hunters all you want, but the final responsibility for wildlife management always comes back to those who are being paid for it.2 points

believe it or not, deer really aren't that important in the Grand Scheme of things.........2 points
-
No offense, but I want them minimizing their time on this BS. Because that is what it is when comparing a deer to their mission at hand, saving PEOPLE's lives. Look, we all want the best for the deer in that scenario. But, at the end of the day, quickly resolve the disruption and get back to saving lives. If one person died as a result of that effort to "save" the deer, that's pretty darn screwed up. Screw the "good press" component.2 points
