because everyone's anchor and form will be a little different point of impact will change slightly. know that some bow arrow combos don't paper tune as well as others. also your arrows even spined correctly do flex. someone who's one of the best in the world told me when paper tuning to shoot at different distances versus just one. I think he said something like 5, 10, and 15 feet. if you get into it, make sure your sight bubble level is set so you're not canting the bow at all. then do what's called walk-back tuning. at the end of the day paper tuning isn't the end all. you've got to inevitably shoot your bow outside, tuning it to shoot/group arrows down range. before you tinker take photos and write stuff down so you can get it back to where it was if need be. if things aren't going well, walk away and come back later.5 points

This looks like a 6pt I passed several years ago...it was 2 mins into the legal gun season and raining like mad...It was the one the neighbors brother shot...I found it dead after season in my stream less than 70 yrds from his stand..".didn't look hit" So he never bothered looking. So the genetics survived...4 points

Pretty much same boat here. Wife will go back to work and run her fathers business in a couple years when the little ones are all in school full time. Until then I just work my ass off to get what we want. I could easily get rid of our nice newer vehicles and the 4 wheeler and all the other toys we buy...but....I'm the kind who wants his cake and to eat it too. I refuse to accept anything but the best from life and will continue working harder than the guy next to me to obtain everything my heart desires. Everyone can have everything they want...just comes down to how bad do you REALLY want it. That and my parents are a-holes and have tried to hold me back and tell me I can't obtain anything without their support...well guess what....you were wrong!!! If you want to shoot a better deer than you have on the land you're currently hunting then you should look for state land with better deer/less pressure. You might have to drive further but it's out there. If you're not willing to leave the land you're unhappy with then you can't expect different results. Shooting a deer because someone else might is a cop out, like it or not. By you shooting that deer before the other guy can makes you that guy! I've been in woods swarmed with people so I never go back, I find woods that aren't nearly as pressured. It takes research and legwork yes, but certainly attainable. Noone is saying that by you and you alone letting young deer live is going to make the woods full of older deer. We're saying if everyone has that mentality of "I'll shoot it before someone else might" then you'll always have the same problem. A deer surviving another year starts with you...4 points

A buck that you don't shoot has a 100% better chance of living than the 1 you do. Rationalizing what you do based on others decision is a cop out. There are many people in this state that shoot very nice bucks on state land and most of the time it's not the first buck they see on opening day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

LOL - it took me three reads of my own comment to figure out what you were saying. Now I have to report you to my wife. She will be quite upset with you and you don't want a full blooded Guatemalan mad at you. yes - she fights my battles for me. And, if you saw her fight, you would step aside too!3 points

One guy picked donuts and the other guy picked cookies and now the guy with the donuts is jealous because he doesn't have cookies. Just because someone has something you don't have doesn't mean they rich jerks. People prioritize things differently. I've meet guys who make less than I do and they go on hunting trips, have expensive gear, etc that I can't afford. But "can't afford" is relative isn't it. Sure if I really want to, I can afford it. "Can't afford" really means "can't afford" and still have all the other stuff I spend money on.3 points

So true....I leave 1000 acres of great hunting land for weeks at a time to drive 21/2 hours one way to hunt state land that 100.s of hunters hunt. There is bigger deer there and thats what i am after, so i do it. This is some of the best land in the area that i leave and there is some great deer but i just dont see those 130 plus very often up here but see many on the heavy hunted state land every year. Get out what ya put in!3 points

Life is full of choices. I make a very modest income and about 1/4 of my income goes to taxes on my land and my leases. I drive a crappy old truck and live in a trailer. I live without a lot so I can have what I want "land and guns." I would be willing to bet that many of you that are complaining that you can't afford a lease pay more for car payments than I do both of my leases in a year. It is what it is. I personally never like seeing city folk come up and buy or lease anything but there's nothing I could ever do to stop it. Sure there's some city guys who are excellent neighbors to have but a lot of the time it's not a good experience. But in the end it comes down to having that money. You want it? Go make it and spend it. I've got permission to hunt the 50 acres behind my house and I fully intend on buying that land in the near future as the owner is old and her daughter will be selling it once the mother(owner) passes. All I know is that I have to bust my ass at work for the next couple years and I'll get it done. Where there's a will there's always a way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Thanks guys. Backstrap was from a nice sized doe. Did a cast iron searing quick and finished on the grill. Cooked until about 130ºf and sat for about 10 minutes. Came out a nice med rare. Not pictured corn on cob, fresh bread, and roasted garlic.3 points

I'm pretty sure I read that only 5% of NY hunters kill a second buck so I don't think that would make a difference. I'm opposed to AR for the same reasons you stated, I'd like to see us go to one buck. I think it would make more hunters pass on bucks knowing that that four point ends their buck season2 points

I have many times had friends ask me why I get so fired up about squirrel hunting and think I am a bit nuts spending so much money on higher end 22 rifles. Actually there was a time I pretty much thought the same way. I became enlightened many years ago after a successful Deer hunt. That summer I purchased a beautiful Ruger Number 1A in 243 Winchester, like a pretty girl I just loved looking at that gun. Mounted a nice 2X7 Redfield Widefield scope and spent summer working up the perfect Deer busting handload and getting that rifle dialed in, man I was psyched for opening day. The second day of season on my stand out walks a nice Buck at 50 yards, Bang and down he went. The excitement lasted for a few minutes then the realization came that I was "all done" and it would be a year before me and that Number 1 be in the woods again, I almost wished I had missed the Buck, Bummer! Well I thought there was Squirrel hunting so I could still hit the woods with my trusty Savage single shot 22 or a shotgun. Didn't sound that appealing until I thought why the heck not buy a really fine 22 rifle and get after the squirrels with it. That is just what I did, I purchased a Remington 541S and never looked back. Six month season, up to six Squirrels per day action, action, action, and I get to actually pull the trigger on a fine rifle or shotgun more than once. I have since accumulated several nice rimfire rifles through the years and I get to use them all if I want, What is not to love about Squirrel hunting? I will be in the woods this week for sure. Same here, guys hunt the same private 20 acres day after day while there's 1000 public acres down the road that sits empty most days. This thread is nothing but a whoa is me pity party. Is leasing the best model I can think of? No it's not however short of taking away private property rights I don't see how you can prevent it. It's like anything else in life some of it's good and some of it's bad2 points

It should be a yes or no question when you purchase your license. Majority rules, I'm against it entirely but if its what the majority of hunters want then I'll deal with it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Land owners suck because they don't let you hunt for free, hunter that lease suck because they can afford it. City people suck because you think they are better off then you. No gas, no cars, no hunting land ...no jobs. Sounds like some people need to focus more on work and getting their lives in order and less on blaming others for their perceived lack of success.2 points

I am sorry Steve, but this sounds like sour grapes to me. You're argument that " 99.9% of the time the land is turned into a big buck property. This leads to overpopulation, especially of Does" just doesn't ring true to me. Where do you get your numbers from? How do you have access to everyone who leases land and do you survey them? I happen to lease land with a couple of buddies of mine and find your argument to be completely off base in our situation. Would we like to kill big bucks? Sure, but that is not the end all be all. One of my buddies hadn't been able to hunt for the past two years because his job had him living out of the country. He killed a 1.5 year old 5pt. He was thrilled and my other buddy and I were thrilled for him. We killed 4 does last year between the 3 of us. I killed two of them. Did I need to kill a big buck to consider last year a success for me? Absolutely not. I base last year as a success because I was able to put meat in my freezer, spend some quality time with two of my best friends, and most importantly have fun. I choose to pay for the right to hunt a landowner's property and he chooses to take my money to help pay his property taxes. I'd consider that a win win for both of us. To me, your basis for your argument is no different than the antler restriction crowd in that it is one size fits all approach. Not everyone has the same quality of property to hunt nor the same amount of time to hunt.2 points

OK - I understand that you may be upset that you lost the right to hunt the land, but why is leasing any different than limiting who may hunt private lands? Most landowners don't open the door to everyone and to argue that those that lease are less of a conservationist than those with free access seems like it requires a major assumption. I don't really see leasing as any different than selectively deciding who the owner lets hunt his/her land, except the owner is paid. We have exclusive permission on a parcel that I offered to lease (but the owner refused payment) and kill both bucks and plenty of does. I would not hunt it any differently if I leased it or owned it frankly.2 points

We all have a right to hunt for our own unique reasons. What we don't have a right to do is to dictate to others what their reasons for hunting has to be.2 points

Worked on new bow again tonight. Forgot pix of 1st shot. It was right in there at 20yards. Setting up HHA dial sight so after that it was a couple groups at 80 yards. Both groups about 2-2.5". I think i moved my anchor slightly for 2nd group. Moved sight and group should've came up but didn't. Too dark to verify anchor with peep. Just had to repeat it and hope for the best. Goes to show how important repeatable anchor is between shooting sessions.2 points

Hey guys thought this might be useful. Last year I bought a pair of socks from http://www.elderhosiery.com and they were awesome. My wife kept stealing them and she loved them as well. I bought them for hunting but ended up wearing them all year long. I bought the Merino wool boot sock called the Trapper, I bought the Pacboot sock and the 100% wool Huskie sock that they actually wear dog sledding in Alaska. I hope this helps with your search!!1 point

To quietly remain seated during our national anthem, where one is expected to stand and honor the flag and country, is one thing. It's what he said and did in the interviews following his 'protest' that are rewarding him with the much-deserved public dope-slap. He's an overpaid man-child, completely ignorant of the inherent value of being born a U.S. citizen. Maybe he'll grow up to be a U.S. senator some day.1 point

thanks moog, the practice is paying off. Going on vacation for two weeks,no chance to practice there. I will be back September 17, then I will set up a tree stand in the front yard and shoot from that for the last two weeks. That should leave me in good shape. Also thinking of marking some trees by my stands for 25 yds, then I'll have a distance to judge by.1 point
