Turn back the clock and the same words you typed could have been written for the passage of the safe act. No idea about how to implement it or being written by those that knew nothing about firearms sure didn't stop them from running a vote through in the middle of the night.6 points

Tastes like chicken, the dog. Not the deer. Hunted fallow in Spain, very good table fare. Took one of mine to the hotel I was staying that had a bistro type place on first floor. They made a couple dishes with that and a whole neighborhood showed up for one heck of a party. They did up my mouflon sheep too. Honest, of everything I have eaten in the cervid family, whitetail is on the bottom of just about any game I have tried. A 13yr old tahr (type of goat) is right there too. Also on the dog thing, everywhere but here, having a tracking dog is part and parcel to ethical hunting. Dog goes right in the field with you, not just when you can't find something. Some of the dogs I have hunted with track 4-500 animals a year. Especially true on game ranches in South Africa. The dog gets to track even bang flops, just to keep in practice. With hunting dogs, running baboons with specialist dogs is the single best time i have ever had afield.5 points

Several fellows on the Airedale board use their dogs here in the states to recover Deer, had this photo sent in from a hunter in France using his dog to recover Deer in the same way done in the states, Fallow Deer instead of Whitetails. Al4 points

Are "Hunting" and "Liberal" mutually exclusive terms? I'll respond literally. No, they are not mutually exclusive. My wife would argue that I am definitely a liberal hunter. Saying I hunt what I want, whenever I want, as much as I want, and never ask her about it. I would argue that I am definitely a conservative hunter, I only hunt certain species, only when in season, never as much as I would like, and always tell her when I am going.4 points

Absolutely have to see it that way. Almost all serial killers start out killing small animals. Your desire to hunt may just be symptom and first step that you are a serial killer. Denied!!!!! NEXT4 points

I am the same way. I actually clean as I'm cooking with items I am done with. And I don't have OCD - people just need to learn to put everything back where it flipping belongs lol.4 points

So the earth's magnetic north pole has been moving rapidly away from the USA. Its magnetic field must of moved as well , this field protects us from the suns radiation. Yet no one talks about it in the terms of global warming or climate change seems the further its shifted the worse the warm up has been... Perhaps because there Is no money to be made on this, seems like the heavy investors in "green" energy are also the ones calling the shots. Add to this the amount of plastic in the oceans acting like a solar cover and global warming can be tossed out of the carbon conversations. Always follow the money.3 points

I think that global warming has more to do with the natural cycles of the Earth than it does with human interference. Do we have an impact? sure. But I don't think that we caused the atmosphere to warm and I don't think that our actions will prevent it from continuing to warm. The Earth is in a warming part of the cycle, and in a few hundred or a few thousand years, it'll cool again. Is another ice age in Earth's future? probably. According to Wiki, we've had cold spells in 1650, 1770, and again in 1850 that were like mini ice ages. People just need to "chill" out and stop throwing money at things that we can't control.3 points

I tossed in Chinaman , just for entertainment purposes..... One great thing about the FD was everyone got along ,if you can do, the job that’s all that matters , and nobody is all touchy-feely about BS . My retirement party was MC’d by a black guy , attended by black ,white ,male, female ,Hispanic, gay , straight and even a vegan . One of my favorite drinking partners is a bi racial, lesbian, just wish she’d not chew tobacco and spit in a glass .3 points

Hunted either end of the Quebec caribou season and the winter animals were good too. Ridiculous cold. Shame those days wont happen again with population crash. Have had red deer in Portugal, Spain, and New Zealand similar to elk imo. Axis deer is also outstanding, and you'd rank it right up there. Have had moose from various places and it never has disappointed. Top 5 overall in no order, Caribou, Kudu, Zebra, Moose, Springbok Top 5 eating deer family Caribou, Moose,Elk, Axis, Fallow3 points

Here is an Orwellian prediction. Let's for sake of argument say that the government has successfully removed all firearms from civilian ownership (and no one is manufacturing their own using 3d printers or CNC machines). Crossbows will be next, and compounds bows after that. It ultimately isn't about firearms, per se, it is about disarming the populace. For those of you who think this is far fetched and our government would never do that, remember history and that our government has embraced slavery, enacted many laws and policies for the purposes of discrimination, exterminated native americans, deliberately infected them with smallpox, internment camped Japanese citizens, deliberately infected the Tuskegee airmen with syphilis, deliberately exposed soldiers to nuclear bomb fallout, told first responders the air at ground zero WTC was safe to breath,....TBD2 points

I am very left of center in my beliefs but love hunting. Mostly with a bow though i can take or leave the gun hunting. I grew up in Germany and as an outsider i have to point out that the gun craze is a strictly american cultural thing. I think it is a little cray cray personally, but how one grows up of course shapes ones values. I never in my life was in a situation where I thought that i needed a gun. I realize a lot of people on here dont get me,but that's fine and a fairly mutual feeling. I dont claim to be right or wrong and people have to figure out their own belief systems. That is the beauty and also the ugly side of living in a democracy. There is whackiness on both extremes, but generally the more moderate majority keeps things in check. If you dont like some folks posts here dont read them. I dont engage with a few characters on here because it is pointless.2 points

I can only speak for myself, but I think several others do the same thing. It's 2 prong: 401k/IRA's - nothing gets sold. It just keeps growing through buying every pay-check and employer contributions. This is the bulk of my retirement someday. I check it daily for fun, but don't make many changes. I max it out every year. As I get older I will turn more conservative, but for now I'm aggressive. 40% rolling 12-month return right now. Liquid Investment/Trading fun account. Due to work, I am very limited on what individual stocks I can own. Need approval, etc. But I do trade sometimes, and also ETF's are fair game. I tend to keep 50-$75K in here, so if you get a 10% day it's $5-7K. Certainly not $5. I agree with @First-light, if you are worrying about $5 gains you shouldn't be in the market and instead paying off debt (if you have any).2 points

I lament the good old days when you could go out as a lab, have a few beers, and not have to worry about every word you say potentially offending someone. But the pendulum has swung, and this is the fallout. Believe me, I get it. Even a comment regarding how we need to talk through our minor issues before they become major issues can cause offense, somehow. But I also recognize that at 53 yr old, I'm a dinosaur, and I actually think it's important to try to appreciate other folks viewpoint, I don't want to cause offense inadvertently. Plus, I like my job. So it's dot the i's, cross the t's, by the book when it comes to my professional life. This Biden executive order feels like more of the same to me. It only applies to official federal documents, and the intent is to reduce potentially offensive language. That seems at face value to be reasonable. But like most things, I suspect that it will be weaponized for political purposes, and that makes me sad. What do they say about the road to hell being paved with good intentions?2 points

I'd love to sit down with you too and look at pics and listen to your experiences. I've had moose, excellent. Caribou, yrs ago, probably 30+, so really don't remember. Elk is darn good too. The best I've tasted, black buck from Texas. Unfortunately, all these critters were taken by others, lol.2 points

As a follow up, I've been using Nomad Internet for the past month without any issues. If anyone finds themselves in a similar jam, I would highly recommend looking into Nomad. No issues streaming, running Ring security system, video conferencing with Teams or WebEx, or surfing the web. Expensive, but at this point was my only option.2 points

Guided deer hunts are funny, in the respect that you are hunting a mostly nocturnal animal, and really have no control over who may have been sitting in the stand before you did. Early & late season hunts are even harder, deer move the most in November & December (in my experience). I moved down to the Eastern Shore last summer (Delaware). It is definitely different than anything I've seen in PA, NJ, NY, or Texas where I've deer hunted before. These woods are mostly pines with some oaks mixed in, so if there are no acorns, there's not much reason for the deer to move around to feed, they seem to be living on the huge agriculture fields & whatever the combines missed. I know there are a fair amount of deer here, but the only time I seem to see them is after dark in the fields. About 20 days hunted this fall & winter (public land for now), and I've seen 1 doe in the woods while sitting, probably kicked up 10 total coming in or leaving. I've been deer hunting 50 years, so I have some idea what I am doing, but these deer don't seem to move until dark. I guess if I could get on private land I'd set up a feeder, that might help some. My advice (since you are asking) is if you are seeing more deer in NY, why drive all the way here? But I will say the ES produces some really big bucks, but if you don't have prime land or a feeder set up, it will be very tough.2 points

It's pretty much a big slap in the face - the market is up because people pulled their liquidity from those positions and dumped them back into other stocks that were "safer" or were short squeezed to a lesser extent and still allowed to interact freely. And the market execs and news are acting like this is a winning day for the market. It's not "buying the dip" it's people were forced to take action by the big money and these companies. Here is how ridiculous it is - Nokia - they just released 5G network news and will likely be a big player in it. RH locked out users ability to retail buy. Why? It wasn't a shorted stock! Only because this was a popular stock in Reddit/WSB and RH community. The volume was high, but no reason to lock it up. The stock has fundamentals! Stock tanked. SNDL: A sub-$1 cannabis stock; sunk low for quality control issues over the past year but no real challenges to the fundamentals that are outside of the industry (almost all have profit challenges). Locked out by RH! Why? Because it was popular with the same crowd. Makes zero sense. Stock was up 76% this AM and loss momentum because people couldn't buy; only sell. How stupid. Robinhood makes income off of selling user order data - TO THE INSTITUTIONS. The AI and Bots use this info in near-real time to make trades against the "dumb" money of retail. Who is their #1 buyer? Citron, the very group that was being bled on GME. Odd, eh? Starts to make sense how big of an organized racket this really is. Guess who covered their shorts at $200 instead of $1,000 per share because they could keep trading but retail couldn't. This was done to keep the big groups from folding - zero doubt about it - and retail investors took it on the chin and were laughed at. News is saying "we told you it wouldn't end well for you kids." When Ted Cruz and AOC are on the same side - something is damn wrong.2 points
