  3. Nope. I'll go to them. You let them in once, and next thing you know, the bathroom has a pink floormat, they've got their mail showing up & there's cute kitten magnets all over the damn fridge. No sir. Not me. I've learned my lesson.

  6. I noticed my scope mounts were slowly creeping back so when I cleaned my 795 the other day I lock-tited the bolt threads. I figured while I was taking it to the range to get a -fresh zero I would do my son's as well as he has missed a dozen shots in a row. WOW! I don't know if he dropped his rifle or what but it went from being dead-nuts accurate at 50 yards to nearly 18 inches off. So after remounting his scope and sighting it in I finally got these results at 50 yards. Left to right... 1 shot, 1 shot, 4 shot group. So after getting the kids rifle all set, I figured I would do mine. Surprising how much just moving the rings back 1/5 of an inch will make a difference. At the end of the day I ended up with these results. Left to Right 1 shot, 2, 3, 4, 10 shot groups. It looks like the difference between an 18 inch barrel (mine) and a 22 inch barrel (the kids) is VERY significant! The kid has challenged me to hit a dime at 100 yards so we are going back to the range in the morning... and then out to put a few more squirrels and rabbits in the freezer. Anyone interested in hitting up Three Rivers tomorrow and / or Sunday with me?

  7. Revisit Yellowstone for a week or two. I was last there in Aug. of 2000 and it was fabulous then. One highlight was waking up at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel to Elk Bugling just outside on the lawn. Yosemine would be nice too. Hawaii, Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Pikes Peak, Bad Lands, Colorado Dude Ranch, Painted Desert, Glacier National Park ... I think I need a bigger bucket.

  10. The SAFE ACT is completely lost within the state of NY. Besides the fact it's legislature is corrupt and it's courts are simply rubber stamps, the people in the state support it. The Supreme Court is the only avenue left for the repeal of the SAFE Act. Political? For those too blind to see it, ALL gun ownership has become political!

  12. I have to agree. The first step we must all take is one of realization of the above stated fact. Except for rhetoric there is very little difference between both sides of the establishment.

  13. With the Winter Bow season open till Feb 20th and 24" of snow that fell the week befor I headed to my stand hoping for a nice doe for the freezer. A group of deer came by from several trails and I spotted a good size doe limping into one of my shooting lanes, I drew back and just as I was about to shoot I noticed this buck trotting in on the same trail, so I held my draw while aiming on the same spot and when he was in my sight I let fly my arrow. It was a double lung and he ran 80 yards spaying blood on both sides of the trail in the snow, stopped and tipped over. When I got there it looked like someone threw a bucket of red paint on the snow. I am truly blessed and look forward to sharing this bounty with friends and family.

  14. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit has ruled that Americans have a “fundamental right” to so-called assault weapons, a major victory for gun rights. A three judge panel ruled that Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013, ban against what the court called “the vast majority of semi-automatic rifles commonly kept by several million American citizens”, is a blunt violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. “In our view, Maryland law implicates the core protection of the Second Amendment — the right of law-abiding responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth and home,” Chief Judge William Traxler wrote in the divided ruling. In his ruling, Judge Traxler sent the case back to the District Court for review, demanding they apply “strict scrutiny” – a stringent constitutional test that almost no gun control legislation can survive. “This case was a major victory for the NRA and gun rights advocates,” said Adam Winkler, a law professor at UCLA who specializes in Second Amendment law. “This opinion is an important one because it subjects important gun control laws to the most strict form of judicial scrutiny.” While the Supreme Court has not yet weighed in on these cases, Justice Clarence Thomas has complained that the Second Amendment was being relegated to “a second-class right.” “If a broad ban on firearms can be upheld based on conjecture that the public might feel safer (while being no safer at all), then the Second Amendment guarantees nothing,” he wrote, and added that those earlier decisions enshrining the right to gun ownership shouldn’t be expected to “clarify the entire field.” You can read the full ruling here (PDF link).

  15. I am in the process of rearranging my gun/hunting room...I have limited space.. I have a modest collection of box calls (14) and I would like to display them, keeping in mind that they be accessible, because I still use several of for hunting.... Anybody got any good ideas for a nice way to show off my calls and still keep them accessible for use ?

  17. I want to buy a big boat & live on it. Like a 34 - 40ft trawler. With a bunch of teak finish inside, a fly bridge, & full head & kitchen. Edit: I almost forgot the most important part. I want a Pitbull to live there with me. A rescue dog, not from a breeder. The 2nd most important part is that there'd be no women allowed. None. Zero. Not even once.

  23. Until all hunters are accounted for by forcing the reporting of every tag issued then nothing will change, They have no real clue as to what deer numbers truly are and are just spinning there wheels if a feel good manner. Waste of time and effort.

  25. Years ago I used to build electrics (necks are the hardest part)....sold a bunch to finance college books; always have wanted to try my hand at a acoustic from scratch. But I don't play, I'm musically challenged. In a similar vein, I had way more tied up in a registered Red Angus herd at one point than all this hunting crap I have. Guns and optics are cheap fun ;and you don't have to worry some puke is shooting a pellet rifle at a $5000 bull in a pasture for kicks.

  26. There is a reason why I do not go by the conservative moniker, nor do I follow media 'conservatives'. Collectively they have conserved exactly nothing of what a healthy and sustainable society and culture needs to flourish. We are in the last days of America as the world has known it. Look forward to a 'diverse' and violent second world culture to spring from the ashes. Conservative = loser, just as much as 'liberal' does. 33. Wow... I haven't experienced anything on that level of severity, but I have developed allergies as I've aged (I'm 36). I grew up with a cat, but now can't sit on a couch if a cat sleeps there, nor can I be in a cat owner's house for more than an hour or so. My parents have two, so I guess that says something... My uncle, a nurse practitioner, told me that it's likely environmental (I haven't lived with a cat in 18 years) combined with aging. My Spring pollen allergies have gotten worse over the years, but I've been able to mitigate those reactions by using local honey as a sweetener throughout the year. I'm unsure if eating a peanut, or part of one, a day or week would be advisable. A quick google search for "adult onset allergies" didn't yield a ton of helpful information, and according to this article, it's a relatively new field of study: http://allergicliving.com/2014/11/20/searching-for-answers-to-adult-onset-allergies/ Here's an even more general article: http://www.everydayhealth.com/allergies/understanding-adult-onset-allergies.aspx Best of luck and health to you, FL...

  34. When younger I had allergies to some things like shellfish, grass and trees. As I got older I would test out shellfish now and then. I can eat clams with the best of them now. However now I can't eat pineapple without feeling like I swallowed fiberglass insulation soon after. I never remember so many food allergies as a kid but now they have special tables for kids with food allergies at schools and also have warnings on classroom doors when kids in the class have certain allergies. Makes me wonder if we used to be not as good at identifying the allergies and kids just suffered or are we getting more allergies to normal things like nuts and milk because of all the other messed with ingredients in the food we eat.

  42. I bought one for myself and one for my daughter last fall. It's a nice call, sounds great, and I like the slide on the side of the call to adjust the tone. So much nicer (and quicker) than having to pull the call apart to adjust the O-ring inside, like many other calls that I've had. The extinguisher never froze up on me either (as advertised). They sure seem to work well on that show on the Pursuit Channel anyways! LOL I saw this guy at ~100 yards away. He was heading into a thicket with no intentions of coming towards me. I grunted once and he raised his head and looked in my direction. I grunted once more and he came in galloping straight to me!

  44. My first with a bow, I was told if I want to help out I need to start shooting doe. (To please the land owners.) So after many years of passing them, now they are on my radar. After passing 3 early that where pushed by a 4pt I spotted 2 button bucks but could not see the doe. She popped out at what I though was 20 yards but after reviewing the video she was probably closer to 18 yards. Arrow broke off and spun around the cavity, broad head was stuck in the entry wound, found that out the hard way and found the rage was still sharp! You can hear her crash right after the shot. She was 40 yards from the hit. This is the video. Shot is after the 1 min mark. Buddy made me wait until dark to find her, his property so I comply. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok

This guy came through this am, He was limping bad and i decided if im gonna do the right thing i should take this guy, He has a big body and i cant find a reason for the limp, He was quartering too me and only went 20-25 yards the last place i seen him was where he laid, 20 yard shot, he went 25 yds and the drag to the edge of the field from where he fell was 60yds, He stinks real good too they are starting to begin rutting, His tarsals are getting black, and all you can smell is buck,

  47. 110lbs dressed, my new stand down in a creek bottom has been great so far. seen deer every time I've been in it which is not what I'm used to. even saw too bucks sparring which is new for me too!!! gonna be even better once more leaves fall off and I can see in the field that's across the creek. really tough access to it though so getting in and out is a real pain but it's paying off. tried one of those disposable game glides to drag her out. definitely worked as advertised, wasn't exactly easy but was a lot easier!!! dragged her up a real steep hill and over logs by myself. feels good to have some venison in the freezer, no I can relax a little more and enjoy my treestand time even more

  49. So bad pictures I know but I got my first doe with a bow right before sundown last night and it was too dark by the time I got packed up found the blood trail and found her. The story goes... Wednesday night I had a shot at this doe and missed TWICE due to some poor mechanics on my part. I actually got some advice from some experienced bow hunters on this site and determined I wasn't bending at the waist and was lowering my arm instead resulting in higher shots. I gave it another go last night and just before sundown like clockwork she came out of the high grass into the hardwoods with the two other smaller does she's been with every time I saw her. The only difference is this time is she didn't give me as easy a shot opportunity at 20-25 yards. She was approx 35-40 yards away this time which is still in my comfort zone so I focused on the mechanics and waiting for the right opening and took the shot. She went down on all fours instantly and the got up and ran up the hill(15 yards) back into the high grass. I waited about 20-30 mins and packed up and set out on the trail. She only made it into the grass about 5 yards in....BONUS!
