so I was sitting in the stand yesterday evening. And at 630 I see this fox run under me. I watched him go sit at a base of the tree and stare out into the food plot. I turn back around and see 2 deer feeding. Just showed up! And I turn to see the fox and he's gone. Then I catch him creeping under my stand. And I see this little fawn. The fox tried to take it down. I have this all on vid. has anyone ever seen this before! I've been hunting 20 years and this is a first.10 points

Just a proud dad last night. Both my twin boys went out hunting with me last night we packed snacks and lawn chairs . And sat in our blind. They are getting better and better every year with patience. Last year was 30 minutes. Last night I got an hour out of them. They whispered never broke branches and paid close attention always on the look out. We never saw a deer but I was still proud. These guys are hooked for sure!9 points

Nah. Still lots to look forward to the extent I can get out there. I get to live vicariously through phade and David when we hunt together and enjoy in their successes on one of the great bucks we have around. Both were real close to a big PY buck on opener. We celebrate the victories like a team and I look forward to that text that its time to track again. Plus, Natalie is itching to get out there with me in bow. Hopefully we will be blessed with a doe or two when hunting together.9 points

The wait was killing me so I had to start a new project. I picked up this dresser at a garage sale and decided to refinish it for my daughter. It's going to be a birthday/ house warming gift as she is buying her first house outside of Baltimore. The dresser will be used as a hutch in her dining room. The original top was a laminate so I made a new top out of oak, painted the rest and added new door pulls. I also picked up 2 end tables, I'll post pics when they are done.7 points

While cleaning Monday’s doe I found these one in each front shoulder. My wife was worried because the arrow was aluminum and made me throw out the meat surrounding the arrow. She must have been one tough animal to survive this. I want to know how it was in both shoulder blades and she survived. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk6 points

Sometimes getting one real early gives you the freedom to try some spots/strategies you may not usually. And that may up your game and increase your hunting knowledge. It also may keep your ass in bed when the bow season is running out and it’s 33 degrees and pissing rain and blowing 20 mph while Phade is froze to a tree! I love following this thread. They sure seem like some good pups right there. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but for heaven's sake folks. Video of the shot? I don't know the details or anything but to me, with a bow, concentrate on what we are doing and stop trying to be the next great outdoor show. Take your pics at the end of a successful blood trail.4 points

A buddy of mine witnessed a fox trying to take down a fawn early this summer...Small fawn... He had his 30-06 handy...Fox had a bad day.. I'd turn him in to TIP, but for the life of me I can't remember his name or where he lives...4 points

10/4/2018 I was called by a friend last night telling me he had shot a doe. He and his father in law hadn't even looked yet, and were giving it some time due to hitting too far forward and high. He had video of the shot and believed the arrow was stuck in the opposite shoulder, and he was putting me on standby. I was called at 10:00 and told they had only been able to follow blood a short distance before losing the trail. I loaded both dogs up and was there in 20 minutes. Luna quickly advanced the track from a thicket, across an overgrown field, and into another thicket. We found light blood in the thicket as Luna worked a large area. It was obvious the deer had been milling around in there. She took us back into the field and was air scenting out there. Part of the field were too tall and thick for her to work so I carried her around as we searched. After not finding any sign, I took her back in the thicket and started walking the outside edge looking to find where the doe had exited. Bingo.....found some blood and we were off again through the field. We were working within 50 yards of where we had been. Luna got on a trail and took us a couple hundred yards without blood, but was showing confidence so we continued on. It was so thick I couldn't see Luna most times, just the weeds moving up ahead. We had stopped for a minute when we saw a green light moving about 100 yards ahead of us. For a second we thought someone else was in the field, then realized we were looking at the lumenok! I told the hunter we need to mark the location, back out, and come back in the morning. He had to take his kids to school, so agreed to meet after that. We tracked this morning in a heavy downpour. The doe was not where we left her last night, so I walked Luna through the area trying pick up the direction of travel. After a while, she picked a trail and led us a hundred yards along the treeline, then into the woods. We were unable to find any sign of the deer. When we saw it moving last night, it was 7 hours after the shot. I believe if it was a mortal injury, we would have found her not far from where we left her.4 points

I’m of the belief I should be able to leave my wallet on the dash of my unlocked car , however I know that’s not true . I don’t walk 3 feet away without locking my vehicles, if I go get in my car and realize I have to go back inside my house to say grab my sunglasses on the kitchen counter ,I lock it for the 30 seconds that takes . Its a simple press of a button . There is nothing of value you can see from the outside , when I hunt my soft gun case is folded over the seat ,so you can see it’s empty . Some parts of the country it popular to steal cell phones, purses, wallets that are left on front seats while people fill their gas tanks, so I lock mine while I fill up if there’s anything in there . Parking lots at gyms trailheads, and parks are prime targets ,they know folks leave things inside there. My town has a few parks popular with dog walkers, they break in even if they don’t see things as most women won’t bring their purse on the walks .4 points

That is crazy! both the same arrow? They are tough animals. I have an old boy, whos 9.5 yrs this fall. Two years ago, As a 7.5yr old he took a .270 round through the lower gut and survived! I have no clue how they are capable of doing such things. Attached are a couple pics of the scars on both sides the year after.. I am good friends with the neighbor who shot him there.4 points

IMO You did the right thing Can't kill em all as it's hunting and not shooting. Regarding Velcro : I would have paid top dollar for it Monday afternoon. longunderwear, camo pants on. leafy ghilli like drawstring pants for outer layer and don't I zip the head of my Johnson into my camo pants zipper after taking a whizz. The freakin zipper got stuck and the movie American Pie came to mind. I did keep the beans below the frank though I'll never admit to it .hurt like a mr fr ,nor did it happen if asked It was the bottom pant leg zipper too ,well you know because hung like that4 points

I sent out a group text opening day (my first ever archery hunt) saying "I'm nervous I'm going to see something" That tallish spike first appeared at 12 yards and all I saw was horn I immediately felt like I ingested a 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew, 6 cups of coffee . I was shaking My favorite thread is this one4 points

I set up camp in Moose River for usually a week or more. Hunting this area is hard, like stated above if you SEE any deer it is considered a successful day, this is typical of the ADK woods with some exceptions like town areas tend to hold more deer. That said the more you are familiar with the area the better your chances, some area really has less than one deer per square mile. When you start to pick up on doe herds, patterns and general travel routes you can help improve your chances. Check out the Salerno brothers, they have some good information on how to hunt, like going up on top of the mountain and hunting down. So many really good hunters today, he are a few pod casts I tend to listen to often as these guys are simply great at hunting whitetail in the ADK. On a side note make sure you know what you are doing... These woods are no joke and every year it takes lives of the ill prepared. Tracking is awesome IF you get snow. I plan all my hunting without and when it comes its such a bonus!3 points

There are people who do well in the ADK's every season, but most live up that way and get more time in. I have always just considered seeing a deer up there a successful trip. What area you plan to hunt? Many people on here might help out with some decent public land. I am going up next season for a week. Renting a cabin and hunting as much as possible. The dates we have planned will be early bow, but may also go into the regular season, won't know that until next years season dates are posted by DEC. It's going to be tough with only really 4 days to hunt, but it's the adventure part that's just as important as killing a deer to me.3 points

Enjoy your walk in the woods...If you even see a DEER you will be lucky.... But ya never know...You may shoot a slammer...Or a bear...3 points
