  1. Bingo !! Tagged out on Canuck gobbler #2 this morning....Vital stats, 21 pounds, TWIN 9 1/2 inch beards and spurs 1" and 1 1/8 "... He was with two hens and a BIGGER ( body size) gobbler..The dominant bird stayed glued to the hens, but this guy came in to check me out...After I shot him, the big bird and one of the hens came over to check him out as he was flopping,..They stood forty yards from me ..That gobbler has HUGE..Big body, big head..Beard looked average, but it may have just looked that way because his body was so big..

  2. Bucket list item checked off: I caught a wild trout in the Rockies. I caught three rainbows and a brookie, all small. I spent 75% of the time just looking around at the scenery. The water was in the mid 30s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  4. Love to watch antlers grow! This guy has good bases...I think he was an eight-point last year. He could be a nine or 10, or remain an eight. His ears are pretty dinged up...older bucks get their ears crunched in fights and sparring so they have notches like this guy.

  5. Looks like a squib load pushed a bullet into the barrel and didn't eject the empty case. The shooter then manually ejected the spent case and loaded a live round in the chamber, not realizing there was a bullet lodged in the barrel. A bore obstruction will cause that type of catastropic failure in an M1.

  8. Took my 3 year old out today. we had a blast. Saw 6 deer and two turkeys on the drive there. Walking in we saw five deer. Got set up in the blind at 915. Shortly after we saw a huge raccoon. After an hour a hen came in real close and decided to attack my decoy. All my son kept saying was wow over and over. Not too long after a thunder storm rolled in and that's when the gobblers cut loose. I figured there were 3 total. 2 seemed like they were Jake's the way they were gobbling. They had hens as one would not stop yelping. I tried to cut her off and no dice. She had ten to twelve note yelps it was crazy. We made it 2 hrs 40 minutes and I was impressed. The action definitely kept him interested.

  13. I was all revved up to go Sunday morning but my buddy has a guy hunting it. Oh well, my other spot demands a 3am wake up and that ain't happening. Our daughter graduated from UB this morning and we had a small bash here at our house. The last of them left around 5pm and then my wife and I had to return some big ass chafing dishes we borrowed and drop our daughter off at her apartment. I'm pretty bushed and the weather sounds a little iff'y tomorrow anyway.........we'll finish cleaning up and getting the house back in order. Oh well, good luck to you guys/gals going out tomorrow morning.

  17. I'm in the win column! Went to Farmersville, 1st time this year. Bumped 3 off the roost walking up the hill, sat down and waited, heard a hen about 50 yds away so I called back and forth with her until she came looking for me. This guy followed her a little too close!

  19. I once hunted a area that had a creek separating the property's. Little before roost time I'd set up and call like mad. I'd cut, cackle and just make a crap load of horny hen calls. Every once in a while, one would fly over to my side before roosting, and roost on my side. One time I had to lay prone in a field because a tom came over to my side and was quite eager to meet his new girlfriend. It was so dark, I could barely see him strutting 30 yrds away. Next morning it took one series of ckucks once it reached legal shooting time.

  26. We had so much fun . At one point the gobbling got close I promised him ice cream if he sat still. Will held up his end even though the birds didn't. Note chocolate ice cream all over face. He crashed hard after hunt at least he stayed awake while hunting.

  30. Grandson played first HS game of the year on Friday, after coming back from injury. (Winged Scapula, not a throwing injury) Played a solid first base and made a couple sweet defensive plays. Went 0 for 3 at the plate, two strike outs and a deep fly ball to center, that was caught. Four more school games this week, then on to A1 Travel. He threw a couple balls at 87 and 88mph during practice, "on the gun". He may pitch a couple of innings this week. SLOWLY, working back to pitching. If he stays healthy, may take him to a combine down in Florida. Varsity Coach says he will be throwing at least mid 90s by senior year. He's a freshman now, just turned 15, 6'5" 215 lbs. Has five pitches, two seam fb, slider, cutter, baby curve for now, and of course the off speed pitch. Also a gifted football player. Offensive and defensive end.

  35. Not a peep heard. Saw a giant raccoon that looks like it had cellulite. I am thinking it will be a slow morning tomorrow, but at least I will get in early and fall back asleep in the woods. Lost a glove too, so at least I can hunt for that tomorrow. Edit: tried to make my post in English. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  36. It was that Monday after mother's day. I took a Jake. it was in the live thread. Going to take my little guy out tomorrow when he wakes up. I'm planning to eat some snacks and sit in the blind with him. Hearing one would be a bonus.

  40. Remember when I was working , I only worked 15 days a month and had another 9 weeks off a year , burning a day was nothing . 3 flights when you’er 30. VS 58 , with no other male helping may not equal 6 floors, nor be as easy as one thinks . What sucked was normally you don’t unload things like dressers to carry them out , I had to carry the drawers down separately ,lots more trips that way . Back to the beer thread !

  43. So after that bastard decided to ruin my morning I opted to head further down the property closer to the aviary where I figured the turkeys may head to feel safer. Called there till noon then had to call it quits. Decided to drive up to the house and guess who was there. Two damn Toms each with a minimum 8+ inch beard. What a roast! Couldn't catch a break. Let alone when I was down by the aviary some goofball jogger decided to run in the woods next to where I was. If only there was a bird within range then. He would have surely needed a change of undies. Oh not to mention I almost did when in the same area a giant 6+ ft black mamba decided slither by. I almost started blasting away at him! Luckily for both of us the stick that was near me was enough to let it know of my presence and it slithered away like a bat out of hell. Not sure who was more afraid, me or the snake. Well congrats to all that connected. Gonna be back at it one final time this season tomorrow morning. Hopefully can finally connect otherwise it will be next May or maybe during deer season if a bird decides to be dumb again. I just want to connect for once on a bird I totally hunted on my own. *Side note, Jay has been coaching me quite well from text. Figure can't hurt to have a turkeyfeathers in my corner Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
