  1. So, the story behind the kill. I was walking along a creek when I crossed a single, large set of tracks heading west. I didn’t want to try and follow through the very thick brush so I looped around the brush lot and got in a tree stand on the other end of the brush by the corn field. Fifteen minutes later I spied him sneaking very slowly thru the brush. Ten minutes after that he had covered the last fifteen yards to reach the open hedgerow. At the shot he reared up on his hind legs, shook a few times and fell over dead. No track heart shot! He’s now hanging in my barn. A decent six point with nice long main beam.

  4. Picked it up today, and I'm pretty happy with it! Como dipped with "oak - brush" for the thick nasties he died in. I'll get an old weathered board from the original farmhouse on the property. And come up with something unique for mounting. So that will tie him with the land he spent his life on.

  5. The Real TC and Treeguy out local for a bit. Treeguy did a few pushes for us. I had the hammer back on a big yote at 130 yards. Just when ready to apply the last little bit of squeeze on the trigger a wind gust of about 35 mph hit me in the stand I was in. Did not shoot. Barked at him again , he froze and poof he was gone. I’m back out til dusk sitting on a ridge.

  6. Still hunted for 3 hours today, saw a few does that I chose not to shoot. Went onto the neighbors as he gave me permission as he is done for the season. Saw a ton of sign at the middle and bottom of his ridge. I’m going to ask him if he would care if I put a ladder stand there next year. He is 75 his house is at the top of the mountain and he only hunts the very top close to his house. He doesn’t bow hunt so I think I’m going to ask if I can put it there and only hunt it during bow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. 3S - Big Ole 7 pointer Clipped the tip of the heart(middle cut came from me carrying it out with my arrow...that is not recommended by the way!) That’s how much Fireball remained after I shot....I knew today was the day after a great kid wrote me a Christmas poem and attached that candy(her favorite). After the shot I stuck it in my pocket hoping I can add it to the euro mount in a unique way. He was as stiff as a board at 7:05 when i returned....so happy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Top one is my main deer knife a Old Timer Stockman, carbon steel . Below is my now retired Schrade LB7 ( buck 110 clone ) it gutted my first buck and countless others , canoed the Yukon River , too many memories to risk loss at this point . Then a few EDC knifes, a Rick Hinderer xm 18, a Spyderco Matriarch, a Strider Rouge Warrior, that I sent to Tom Krein for a custom regrind . If you find me without a knife , it’ll be naked in the shower .

  26. Good luck all, throwing in the towel. Maybe a day or two in PA late bow after New Years. 9 out of 11 deer tags filled, gave 4 deer to families who will use them. 5 will feed us comfortably.

  27. I’m truly impressed with the weather report. Forecast is for west wind. When I checked before going out, it said west winds, but the windicator arrow was pointed north. So I setup in a spot for W and N winds. The wind had been at my back all morning.

  28. Boot fail.. the creek is flooded so I had to Wade through higher water than I anticipated. Not sure if it went over the top, or through the boots, but I took on water. Tried to load a video of me pouring the water out of my boots but it wouldn't load. Hope my buddy gets one. I put him in the best stand for these conditions.

  29. I have a few knives . My favorites are . Uncle Henry fillet knife. Buck clip for daily carry. Case xx for deer hunting. My father's Case xx I dont carry hunting anymore. Blade is getting quite narrow. Small case xx for small game. A Montana silversmiths knife bought me for a church knife.. she didn't like me to carry my buck knife to church and such. I always have a buck 110 in my hunting pack and another in my console of the truck. A Gerber tool in my truck also. Man cant have to many knives

  45. For centerfire, Hoppes #9 is tried and true, but I think Shooters Choice is actually better for heavy copper/brass, lead deposits. For muzzleloaders, even with the newer propellants I don't think anything works as good as a sink/bucket of boiling water and dish soap, a good scrub and plungering water in and out through the breech / nipple hole with a tight patch. run patches until dry,, chances are the bbl will be too hot to handle from the water, and will evaporate dry very well. Run a patch of your preferred lube/ etc. down the bore and ready to go. It takes only a little longer than cleaning with just the solvent of choice, but dangit, I never have to worry about any rust a year down the line.
