First-light
Hang ons come in, ladders stay out. Loosen up the straps and leave them where they stand.
fasteddie
I leave the ladder stands out all year then buy ratchet straps and replace the following tear and replace . Harbor Freight has the Orange Straps on sale quite often --- 4 for $8.00 Tractor Supply has the Blue Straps on sale quite often --- 8 for $20.00 . CharlieNY
I also leave mine out year round. I have found that by doing so the deer get used to them, and have many times had tracks leading right up to the base of my ladder. I too replace the ratchet straps periodically. I have some ladder stands that I have left in place for close to 20 years with no problems.
ants
Leave em out. Just check them every year and loosen the straps at the end of each season
Steuben Jerry
Done it that way for many years.
Fantail
That's the only way i do it unless they need to find a new tree. This and replacing ratchet straps, and taking any cushion - seat - arm rest padding down.
Culvercreek hunt club
Loosen up the straps Very important point Edited December 6, 2013 by Culvercreek hunt club
ants
This and replacing ratchet straps, and taking any cushion - seat - arm rest padding down. Good point. One year I left the cushion on my stand and the squirrels tore it up and made a nest out of the stuffing, in the next tree over. They did the same thing with one of my lawn chairs one year. Little bastards…..
Fletch
Yep, I leave em out and loosen up straps after season or otherwise your stand will sink into the tree and grow up and eventually the bottom will leave the ground. I have one I forgot and this is happening, I will try to correct that one in a couple weeks.
growalot
every two years they are unchained ..unstrapped laid down ...wire brushed...welds checked...bolts checked... painted with Rustolium primer...then repainted and put back up
TeeBugg
That's the only way i do it unless they need to find a new tree. This is what we do. Sometimes we replace the straps in the spring or summer if they need it.
DanceswithSkunks
I had one up for 3 years. Took it down and needed a bottle jack and 4x4 to get it apart. I saw at one time there was a lever device you could get to take them apart. for the life of me I can't find it anymore.

bryabbio
I leave my ladder stands out, but what we do is remove the bottom 2 pieces of the ladder to ensure that no one comes and tries to steal it. We do this because in the past year we have had 3 ladder stands stolen. So now like I said we take the bottom 2 pieces off and leave the seat part attached to the tree. Then before the season, i mean months before we will go back out, change the straps, wd 40 the joints, touch up the paint if needed, change the para-cords hang back up our bow hangers and pack hangers. Then every 2-3 weeks we will re check the stands for further maintenance if it is needed. But if the stand needs to be replaced, well then we will replace the stand. letinmfly
Anyone leave them out year around and maintain them in the woods with new straps, a little paint in the spring... Mine has been in the same tree for eight years now. I inspect it every fall before the season.
WNYBuckHunter
I loosen the straps on all of my stands, take seat pads, shooting rail pads and blinds down, and they all stay in the woods. Ladders and hang ons alike. I do a good check on them each year. If they need any paint, ill do that in the woods, or take it down if it needs any bolts or sanded down at all. phade
Be careful of the hangons....you can't see the damage on the cables because they rust inside out.
Doc
I have seen numerous threads here about an epidemic of stolen stands and now here is a thread about leaving stands out in the woods year around.

Adkhunter1590
We have two ladder stands that have been up for 13 years now. Still sturdy. Just replace the straps every year and take down the cushions from the seats. Plenty more years of life left in them
