Just had 2 doe down wind of me. One 15 yards one 30 yards. The one at 15 knew something smelled funny but never blew or ran with her tail up. Just turned and walked away. Maybe evercalm helped, im guessing i stink pretty good from the walk in. Never the less i got a good video.

I was surrounded by a doe and her 2 fawns for just under an hour. Unfortunately momma never gave me a shot. She got within 20 yards at one point then headed off in the wrong direction.

A fun two hours and 45 min in the woods.

So started at first light. Short break and moved into acorn stand. Just at magic hour of afternoon I see/ hear storm rolling in. Check radar , no phone reception, no texts going through. Hmm, I’ll take my chance.  It’s getting really deery now , barely a breeze , raining acorns.  Then in seconds the sky is black and winds start whipping.  Lower bow , climb down. Get text severe thunderstorms approaching and I better skedaddle.  Oh boy now it’s rumbling overhead hard. Try to boogie across field and thunder rips overhead loud with lightning I swear I was dead. Biggest shout of f me ever. I quick jump into a box blind for 10 minutes. This scared the crud out me. Meandering back to the car I get soaked. Get to car and sun comes out. Fields covered in deer on way home. Just before the winds picked up the flock of 30 or so turkeys came out of the woods and one hen rolled into assembly call seconds before all he’ll broke lose.  Fun times. No deer seen.  Had one stomping at dawn then blew.  Drying gear once again.

Kicked three doe heading back to same area as last night in Columbia county. Adjusted my spot to hit the trail does used last night. 30 minutes in I hear a deer coming charging from my right. Stops at 45 yards and continues past. 5 min later her partner can through at about 40 on the line...away from me.
Then another doe comes in and MAKES A LEFT!! once she get to THAT tree I know she’s 22 yards. Wait...what the F are those things sticking out of HIS head...Spike!
He gets a pass...might have still been in velvet which almost caused his demise.

Didn't make it this morning but got out this afternoon to see a few grey squirrels and countless mosquitoes. The neighbor decided it was a good afternoon to clear all the dead branches and brush on the edge of his yard as well. I guess it's better now than when things start getting heated up.

I went out for the last hour of light just up my back pasture. I saw some does in my neighbors field before i got to my stand. I tried putting the sneak on them but the wind was terrible for it. Pretty sure the winded me and dropped down into a lower field. I tried getting close again, but they saw/smelled me again. Third time i saw them they were in my ancient apple orchard, this time they snorted and took of. At least i saw a bunch of deer today and didn't spook them in any of my good spots...

Between the 3 of us we saw 60+ deer tonight. We were looking for 8 point plus tonight and nothing over a 4 point.

Wow. I haven’t seen 60 different deer in NY in an 8 year span.

Going up to wake grandson in a couple minutes, for his first hunt this year. Really hoping we get lucky, and he shoots his first deer/buck. I hunted my two properties yesterday, and saw nothing. Got deer, but not much moving in these warm temps where we are.

Good luck to all heading out! Congrats yo all who were successful yesterday!

Switching things up a little. Temps are warm here in the capital region so I decided against the stand this morning. Snuck in at around 4:30 and set up on the ground inside their bedding. Worth a shot, at worst I’ll help out some other guys who surround this bedding area lol

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
