 I have only killed two bucks in the Adirondacks.   My first miss up there has been playing in my head since 2014, even though I killed him with a followup shot, from about 300 yards with my 3-9X scoped bolt-action 30/06.  I can not remember where the magnification was when I missed.     At this point, I am about 90 % certain it was a branch strike that did that first shot in, but unless I locate that busted branch, I will continue to wonder.    "Clean-misses" bother me almost as much as unrecovered "hits" because absolutely no skill is required to make them.   I know I missed him twice (the second one does not bother me as much since it was rushed offhand).  The autopsy showed that buck was only hit by one bullet.    

I snow-tracked in on a couple antlerless deer up there a few weeks ago, but of course they were "off-limits" for my rifle.  Naturally, there were no deer at all around (and no snow) when I was up earlier with my ML and could have legally taken one.   It sounds like soft, silent snow and a steady wind provide the best tracking conditions.  If I see those over Thanksgiving, I will probably give it a try again.   If not, I will try to find good spots to set up my tree-hammock chair and try to ambush one, just as I did the other (2).  Good luck on your out of state hunts, and you still got the tag and plenty of time to get it done in NY.   If you want to try something different, I can think of a good book that you could read a page or two from on the morning of the hunt.

Snowing a little, a lot of snows on the trees. I wouldn’t Carry a scoped rifle in this conditions so I wouldn’t know.

Zero regrets. Only one mature buck.  Goiter and 11 spikes ,forks and buttons . Only one doe who busted me drawing on her   Seriously enjoyed the first archery season   Glassed some good ones   Hoping daughter gets a shot at one

Mainframe 8 with quadruple brow tines on one side and a row of junk on the other.  Redneck hang a ring on it 16 points, but I am thinking 15 scorable. ?

By farrrrrrrr my best buck ever.  I can't believe it.  

Was watching 7 turkeys and they finally left and this buck cone trotting in hard.  Stopped and was eating something under the snow. Was standing right next to stump I ranged at 35 yards .  There was one twig in the way of the vitals. So I am waiting for what seemed like forever.  Finally he takes a step and looks back hard like he is gonna bolt so I shoot and knew I hit him. He ran like 15 yards and then walked away slow and I couldn't see him anymore. This was about 4:00.  I waited for half hour but that storm is coming in so I went to check bolt.  Great blood on it and a pass thru.  But very little blood 

Track for about 20 yards and no blood but a few drops.  So I go another 30 yards and there is a buck. So I think it's him but it's a smaller buck and he is pacing back and forth in the same spot and doesn't know I am there.  Finally he sees me and kinda trots away .  I think that other deer is down and that's why he was doing that.  And there he lays.....

How a bow season goes to one of my toughest in years to my best ever.  Still shaking....better pics tomorrow as it was snowing bad by the time I dragged him out and got to head home.  

Still can't believe it.
