I’m an engineer. I do just fine with math. Philosophically speaking a lot of hunters will disagree with brown it’s down, But that’s philosophically speaking not legally speaking.

I sat this morning. My grandfather passed late Thursday. So I was in the woods for some therapy. It’s not all about killing for me. I saw a doe, doe fawn, big button and a nice 8. And was busted by a Tom turkey with a beard that was dragging on the ground. The turkey I was fully prepared to take.

Sorry to hear about your pop.

It's not all about killing for me either but definitely do some killing in hunting so outrage over (quite) a small deer is just more silliness for us to argue about.

Good action this AM!

My heart just skipped a beat when I saw your photo !  HUGE props and congrats for getting that cat with a bow.  Obviously I don’t know all the particulars about your hunt but I do know it’s small target when your aiming at the vitals. Any word on the weight , length and sex ?  Any plans on tanning or mounting it ? I’m green with envy but very glad for you. Quite the accomplishment with the bow imo.

Back home on the couch. Thought today would be stellar after the deer parade last Sunday when I saw more deer in a day then I usually see all season.  Saw a doe and fawn this am and a lone fawn in the evening.  Guess the bird #$%& wasnt lucky.  Also heard alot of gunfire in 4k in the afternoon. Congratulations to everyone who connected this week!

Thanks Paul, honestly it’s the best one I’ve ever had. I’m at 3 deer so far done for now. Which is great because today is the last day I am able to hunt till opening day. I know not everyone approves of taking young deer. I’ve already got some negative response in my contest thread. But I have to say that little guy is gunna eat great!

Shoot what you like, like what you shoot!

The only one that needs to be pleased is yourself! And you seem very pleased!

Congratulations!

Guys cant we all just get along...

Last year in the early season I had to be reminded that turkey wasn't in yet...from some nice fella on this site kept me in code I was grateful...

We all make mistakes that's why they put erasers on pencils and edit on forum posts!

Lots of action today guys!

Good thing I didn’t get a shot I guess

But you were willing to and apparently tried and got busted. Which means you actively hunted game out of season. Enjoy your glass house

Have had a rough few days in the big woods, bucks seem to be laying low with minimal sign. Found some does yesterday and a cow moose today I hunted a place I haven’t been since I was a kid a little over an hr drive from my camp and it was much the same for the deer saw a doe and fawn and that was it, no buck sign at all in the higher elevation. On my way up I saw 2 cows and a calf moose and on the way down I saw the bull.

So far in the big woods this year I’ve walked 97 miles let 2 bucks go let 1 bear go and have saw 7 moose. 2 more days up here before I have to head back to civilization for a few dad duties.

Thanks man. I didn’t have a scale around to weigh it but I would guess in the mid 20 pound range. It was a female. Didn’t measure the length before getting it in the freezer. Had to run some errands so I was kinda rushing on getting it cleaned up a bit and in the freezer before I had to leave. I’m going to have it full body mounted. Not sure which pose I want yet. My uncle is a taxidermist and I’m headed up to his place next week, I’ll drop it off with him and talk about which poses he can do for me.

The hunt went pretty quick. From the time I saw her enter the field to the time I shot was maybe a minute. There was a few blue jays and doves in the field and the bobcat tried sneaking up on them. The birds spooked and then the cat turned and started to leave the field so I lip squeaked quickly and to my surprise she turned right around and came right at me. Only took a few seconds for her to close into 17 yards. I drew and waited for her to turn broadside before letting it rip. After getting hit she took off and ran 60 yards across the field and lunged into the brush. Found it about 15 yards into the brush.

Been getting a lot of cats on my trail cams the last 3 years. This was the first time I’ve ever seen one though. Couldn’t pass up the shot though, going to be a real cool mount.

Was solo today. Grandson is nursing a badly sprained ankle, suffered in his last football game. His mom put hunting with grampy out of the question until the swelling goes down. Hopefully next weekend.

This morning saw four bucks. A real nice 8. A little 4 and a spike did a little pushing each other around. And again, saw my target buck, from a different stand. The two big bucks, were just too far out, for a comfortable shot ftom me. Back out again in the morning. Got a surprise for that big nine!

This afternoon I saw nothing. My hunting partner was on the opposite side of the swsmp/bedding area, and saw a couple decent bucks. No shots for him either.

Thanks for sharing your hunt. The lip squeak sealed the deal. It’s gonna look awesome mounted.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
