Killed an 8pt buck tonight. I'm going to be crippled up as I had a long uphill drag and I swore I'd never drag another. He's probably a 2.5 year old I'm guessing. I'll pull the lower jaw and see what the DEC has to say about it. One of the biggest bucks weight wise I've ever killed, actually the third heavyset I think, he dressed out at 172 lbs. The drag was about 200 yards. I took this pic as soon as I found him, no hero shots in the field. I'll grab some pics for the contest tomorrow.15 points

Pic of my son's absentee ballot! He's away at college and sent it to me to drop off for him. His first vote after turning 18 and maybe Astorino's first vote?6 points

After 3 years hunting some land of mine up here, I finally spotted a buck. I normally only see does up here. That's a long time to wait, and today that had to end. I took this crotch-horn with a muzzleloader and ended that drought! Takes a lot of pressure off the rest of the season. I swear this is the hardest place I have ever hunted in my life lol!6 points

Snuck up within 8 yards of this 8-point feeding just of a trail in ADK's Fulton County in the pouring rain... had to wait about a minute before I could get a shot at his shoulder... My biggest muzzleloader buck with patch & round ball... I was dreading the drag out, but it wasn't too bad at 2 hours... I just love the big woods4 points

So I'm in my stand and it's getting to be around 5:30 haven't seen anything all day, on my phone bullshitting with some guys on the forum when I see two does feeding in the field about 80 to 100 yards behind my stand.... Feeding in my direction when all of a sudden they make a hard right and go the other way, I haven't seen much this year and say screw it, I'm gunna try and stalk them. Down I go knock and arrow and start off slowly through the field, they are now in the apple trees on the propority, I'm using trees as cover I'm Within 50 yards when the white flags go off and they run back into the woods, oh well I'll just go inside, walking around the house, there are three on the properity I'm hunting about to head in when I notice movement going around the other house, u creep over there hop the wall to the stone patio crawl over to the wall slowly slide up and notice that I am pretty much nose to nose with a giant doe, she immeaditly blows loud and hard and they take off again, I was so close I felt the wind from her blow and my face and she completely scarred the crap out of me almost dropped my bow..... Probably not the best hunting Stragety but it made for a fun night3 points

I asked a guy the other day who he was going to vote for and he told me that he didn't like either one so he wasn't going to vote. I said "well sir no disrespect but its people like you that keep people like Cuomo in office". Let's go Astorino!!3 points

Well it's official. I'm hooked. Can't wait to get out and do it again. Spent tons of time researching(thanks to all of you)practicing my shooting and game planning for this. Went out Sunday morning for the first time. My hunting buddy and I are both rookies so expectations were low. We felt that the day would not be a waste no matter what happened because you are always learning. We'll at about 9:30 in the morning I was walking through a field with waist high grass hoping to scare up some pheasants(no dog...yet). About 100 yards away from me a single pheasant flys in from the North side and lands. Talk about getting juiced up. Now I know there is something in this field. I slowly stalked the pheasant and as I got about 30yds away I could see the grass moving as the pheasant tried to run on the ground. At about 20yds it took flight and I swung my Shotgun around and took the shot. First time not shooting at paper. I am hooked.....can't wait to get out and try again. Thanks for all the help and teaching from all your posts on this forum. I felt prepared and confident.2 points

I have seen guys put a square of toilet paper on a blood drop as they find them, it helps give a visual of the direction of travel .2 points

Haven't got a deer in the 6 years that I've been deer hunting but when that deer comes Infront of me i get that adrenaline rush. That's what keeps me out there lol. That Feeling is not even compared to anything. If I get a shot or even see a deer I call it a good day lol. Can't wait to go out Monday afternoon maybe this time it will be my day. Gotta stay positive right2 points

Great that you got a buck. I could have slept in this morning but that would have left my buddy at the launch with no one to hunt with. I'll post the story.1 point

Pic of me dragging out deer... my buddy came out to keep me company while dragging and to take some photos... he couldn't help with the drag because he is disabled... he was hunting about a mile away so I was able to contact him... just having someone there to talk to and share the experience made the drag less grueling1 point

As she ran away did you see the arrow still in her or was it a pass through? If a pass through did you actually see where you hit? Arrow hole/blood on her side? Did you find any hair at impact spot? How far from shot to where you picked up blood coming out of swamp?1 point

I think the best thing that could happen to deer hunters is if squirrels started hibernating in the fall.1 point

I was a bowtech guy for years. Then I bought a elite hunter and answer in the same year. This year I sold them both and got the E35. By far the best bow I've ever had. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

And mine wasn't directed at you specifically...and I do agree about reading regs. but that said................ an answer if one had one and then a prompting may have been better...Everyone claims this to be a friendly informative helpful site for NY and other hunters..Sooooo... one should not be appalled that questions are asked ... ps...... What happened to " there are no stupid questions"?1 point

Congrats, hopefully the first of many. Like Joe said ANY ADK buck is a trophy. I agree 100% it is some of the hardest hunting I have ever done.1 point

Yes it was raining like hell... wasn't bad while hunting... sucked for dragging up hill in the wet leaves though... I was going to carry the buck on my back but it was so slippery going uphill I was afraid if I fell the weight of the buck falling on me might injure me... or I might get gored by the antlers... lol... I'm no spring chicken any more as you can see by the grey in my beard1 point

Oh yeah, he'll look good on nyantler-outdoors! Maybe run a feature story on him and some pics on the front page! Congrats on a sweet buck with primitive gear Joe!1 point

I shoot both, the Montec G5 and the Rage 2. I have yet to get a bow kill under my belt so I don't know which one I like better. I carry both and it's really a enie, meenie, mynie, mo as far as which one I'll nock when I get to my spot. I do stalk with the G5 though because the Rage blades tend to come loose when bumped against brush. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I would not use the stand myself. Everyone we 've had issues with were sneaking on when nobody was around,or poaching at night. Someone hanging a stand and placing cameras sounds to me as if they think it's ok for them to be there, those people you at least have a chance to reason with.1 point

Maybe you should go see a doctor about it? Sounds like a horrible thing to have if you like stand hunting, you can try sitting in a blind till it get's better.1 point

Well I met with the judge on 10/17 and he seems like a pretty decent guy, asked me why I wanted a permit. Told him I want to get in armed security since I work unarmed now. He seemed pretty happy with that response and I was out the door in 2-4 minutes. He said to be expecting some mail within a few weeks.1 point

tonight I had two fawns come in and could clearly see the smaller one had either a broken foot or leg. She was kind of dragging it not walking on hoof but bent it back and was walking on the top part of foot. She was super small and all I could think about was her getting mauled by coyotes so I took the shot and put her out of her misery. She only went 30 yrds and piled up lung heart shot with 2 blade rage. Her back leg was broke and about 3 inches of bone was sticking out. Sucks to have to use up my tag for very little meat but still feel like I made the right call. Where do you stand on shooting deer with not hunting related injures?1 point

Eagle... I respect your personal preference, and since you are an experienced hunter and rifleman, I have no doubt that the lighter trigger is safe and perfect for you. However, I will maintain that for " Joe Average Deerhunter" a trigger of 2.5 to 4 pounds is a better and safer choice.1 point
