Okay guys don't kill me for this, but ive been really bad about posting to the forum this season. I shot this buck on November 14th on public land out on Long Island. Got to the spot with my friend and found some nice sign, and got set up over it. As I finished pulling my bow rope up, I look over and see this buck 30 yards. It came right to 20 yards, but when my friend got up to shoot, his jacket fell to the floor and the deer ran off. It wasn't too spooked, and i had a feeling it would be back. About an hour later as my friend is turning to talk to me, he sees the buck coming back. He gets ready to shoot it as its coming in. Before it got to his lane, it turned behind us and gave me a 15 yard shot. I shot the buck, it ran about 100 yards and dropped. Not going to lie, I thought it was quite a bit bigger, but I'm still pleased with the buck. Hair has been cut since then thankfully, so I no longer look like a cave man39 points

So I shot a nice buck at bow season and we took 4 buck and two doe on opening day. I came up this weekend to get the meat and pretty much just walk around and enjoy the outdoors. I did have a doe permit left. Had a couple of chances but didn't shoot. I left the woods thanking for the harvest. I left this morning around 9:10 and as a drove by my neighbor he was just heading down to woods. We talked for a while I left. Timing is everything. Just before exit 39 Bath I see a guy in the right lane waving me down. Blood on his face. I pulled over and saw his car windshield crushed. There was Mom Dad and two toddlers and a baby. I immediately called 911. They spoke broken english. Dad was pretty cut up and everyone else had blood on them. Two other people stoped and I think one was an Off duty police officer. We aided the family and got them out of the car and into a warm truck. Not much english spoken and I held the 4 year old boy for 15 minutes. He kept on telling me get the yukies off of me. That was the blood from deer and dad. I took him to my truck and had wipes when he saw my dog he was happy. Sherif was grateful and I left. Hope they are ok. Life can change in a second! . .19 points

Well so far my season has gone to hell in a hand basket real quick starting on opening day. 4 of my target bucks including my main 2 all got killed on opening day on neighboring properties following doe around. I had multiple encounters with each during bow and now kinda kick myself for not taking at the time what I thought would be risky shots. I've seen a bunch of dinks since then so not much to really talk about but did have one I'd like to get a closer look at show up on camera for the first time today.10 points

It will be a true miracle if I see any deer this afternoon. I've got my 13 and 8 yr old boys with me in my blind. It's the 8 yr olds first time and to say he's a chatterbox is an understatement!9 points

It's in the small print everyone agrees to, without reading. The site was originally intended and continues to be "family oriented", despite some slips and relaxed standards/practices in recent history. Considering the legal age to hunt in the majority of NY is now 12... We can avoid issues by asking ourselves: "Would ł say this/share this with my 12 year old son/daughter, niece/nephew, grandson/granddaughter or neighbor kid? If you question whether or not you would or answer "No", don't put it up here and lock the futures stewards of our sport out of what could be a valuable repository of info about hunting NY. ł would not point anyone under 18 towards our site regardless of their interest in hunting. Simply because ł wouldn't want them to be subjected to the nonsense/inappropriate content that circulates far too frequently here. (Not to mention making fools of Hunters everywhere, the public views this site and draws conclusions of "us" as a whole... whether we like it or not.)5 points

Finished unpacking and found a few things I won’t be using anymore so there up for grabs. I’ve done this on here before with no issues so here’s how it works. First one to answer in this post gets the item. These are things I tried passing along to friends and no one wanted next stop is the trash, so grab them if needed. Map create 7 it does all 50 states. You can set up a print out a route. Minolta 8x21 Binoculars old but still work The I wish I could still use. Keeps track on a laptop(cd rom needed) printable charts. Works with prochrono chronograph Lowrance ifinder hunt c works great just needs batteries and an SD card. Has three modes hunt, easy and advanced. If you can figure out the advance mode your a rocket scientist lol These straps came with a sling pack. There for holding ducks. Again first “I’ll take it” on this post gets it. Followed by a pm with an address to ship it too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Day 2 Survivors of the Ohio season. Bucks 1, 2, 3 on one farm. Other farm was pretty quiet overnight. While middle of the night or after dark I’m just happy I’m picking these bucks up on cam at this point. 110 acres or so and I have 7 cams on it, with five in about. 15 acre section. The Spypoint is in my blind spot and where I suspect and hope these bucks are spending time as it’s the safest place on the farm from neighboring hunters / Amish. Buck 1 loses context on size by himself, but the last image shows him with Buck 3 for example. Let’s get to the weekend already!4 points

Have you tried sterling, Stewart, bashakill, minawaksa? Those allow rifle as well. I could meet you at sterling on day and show you at least a good access point. One that was shown to me by a old member… the guy obsessed with morning doves for the old timers here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

What a long day . Two of my sons and a grandson met at the property in Geneseo . I was in my stand by 6:15 . Around 7:25 i heard 3 shots . I waited a few minutes and the called my youngest son who was 1/4 mile away . He said he dropped a doe and took 2 shots at a buck . Later he reported that he had gotten both . Nick was using his Savage 220 slug gun . Suggested he get them loaded at his car and head home . Since my other son , grandson and I hadn't seen anything , we decided to leave . I was disappointed that I didn't get a shot with my 44 mag pistol . Went to my oldest sons house for dinner . Had a great meal . I ate more marinated backstraps than turkey . All in all , it was a good day . Nick's deer4 points

If this was in reference to me sure. Set up a account on the idaho fish and game web site or app. Non res tags go on sale Dec 1st at 10am mt time so noon here. It said a half hour prior everyone signed in will be put in a virtual waiting room. Well we logged in around 1115ish and were immediately put in the waiting room. You are then randomly issued a place in line. My buddy got 4126, i got 6040... Then u wait, and wait, and wait. Occasionally the site updates and shows u what has sold out already. It caused sooo much anxiety lol. When ur up u select your tags and pay. We both got salmon region for elk, which we wanted. And he got unit 36b for deer i got 28. They border each other so thats fine.3 points

What gets me about that map is, Alaska and Hawaii are so close to each other yet, Alaska is cold and snowy all the time and Hawaii is hot and sunny ,explain that !3 points

On any new hunting ground I use a combination of still hunting and sitting to get a read on how any Deer use and travel the property. For me that has always been the key to success. There is plenty enough time left to make a kill. Al3 points

Congrats everyone and good luck to the guys still hunting. I got the green light to hunt with the bow/crossbow from the eye doctor yesterday. He said to hold off until the new year with the guns. On the way back up from the island I saw a beauty of an eight pointer chasing two does along I-90 he had the whitest antlers I’ve ever seen on a deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

You can go set a hub blind now. Brush it in well and don't be careless. Fear of making moves is one of the top three mistakes a hunter can make IMO. It bites everyone from time to time. Sometimes you make a move and it is the wrong move, but I can't recall many times not making the move has worked out for me or most anyone else I know. The ML season goes into January this year. What does he have to lose with a bonus property? If a hub blind gets him seat time or more of it, I can't see too much negative. Heck, maybe all he does is learn more about the property this year to leverage next. Maybe he learns where not to hunt. Maybe he shoots a Booner. But not wanting to put up a hub blind with a month of season left, one in which there is a period of no hunting? I just don't understand that logic personally.3 points

I was going through trail cam pics looking for pics of the bucks that were taken here since the rifle opener. I came across this one from August of my and my daughter’s buck hanging around together. Well, they still were hanging around together this week too, but it was in our garage. Nice that they each had an identifying characteristic. Cool pic to re-discover! I pulled a couple cards on the way out from getting her buck, and found a sequence of 10 pics of the buck I shot, less then 24 hrs from when I harvested him. He was following a group of does that were in front of the cam seconds before. I like his stature in this pic, he looks “tanky”.3 points

Talk about comfort food… my daughter helped me make turkey pot pie with some Thanksgiving leftovers using my mom’s recipe. Paired nicely with a Rohrbach’s Scotch Ale.3 points

Something just dawned on me. I sure as hell hope @turkeyfeathers and I are never stranded on a deserted island together!! We would probably starve to death!! Well, unless there are a few turkeys to hunt...3 points

Northern zone target buck finally makes his mistake. Can’t wait to seal the deal on the Tier target buck come late season.3 points

Ha… as long as he’s having fun! I want to bring my 3 year old daughter… but I’m thinking I might as well wait until Spring. My odds of legally harvesting a deer would be exactly the same.2 points

I got the traps Monday and made my way do to the creek that goes into the pond. It’s a lot wider the I remember but I found this tree laying across the creek that they’ve been feeding on. I’m not sure how well I did but I blocked off the area and left them no other way to get through except where the trap is. Hopefully it works out. I have to say that was as fun as it gets. Waders and longer gloves going on my list of things to bring. My boots where filled with ice water by the time I got done. Here’s a few pics of the set up: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

This is not the case with ash trees in Vermont at all (yet.) You can treat and save an ash tree that still has half its leaves. (One that is "mostly" dead.) Homeowners can also do their own research and treat trees themselves for about $10 tree.2 points

All impressive deer....just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. As for a taking risky shots.....you know the shot wasn't there and made the correct decision. If it was a yaradge issue thay you weren't comfortable with....push your comfort level this off-season. Keep your head up.....still a month of the season left. Big boys are starting to show on everyone's cams again after their 2 week hiding period after the gun opener. Sent from my SM-A716V using Tapatalk2 points

Went to Geneseo this afternoon . I set up my Ameristep Caretaker blind and sat . Wasn't seeing anything . Bored .... Legal quitting time was 5:09 pm . I had to pee real bad and closed up the Hub Blind at 4:35 . At 4:45 , I saw a doe coming my way . She was between me and my SIL's house so I couldn't shoot . More than a good thing as I grabbed my rifle by the scope and felt something loose . The scope rail is held on by 3 set screws . Two of them were loose . Can't use the rifle until I re-sight it . I will take my Savage 220 slug gun for tomorrow afternoon . My youngest son bought a used trailer to haul his ATV . He drove from Honeoye with the trailer to pick up his ATV Sunday . He left the hunting property in Geneseo , got about 1 1/2 miles away and blew a tire . No spare . I told him to drive the ATV back to the property and see if my SIL would bring him back to his car . He drove the trailer back to the property and stashed it . He ordered 2 tires ( 4.80-12 ) and should get them this Friday . While I was there today my oldest son and I were able to free up the lug nuts on the bad tire side . Tomorrow we will try the other tire . I am thankful that my son didn't get half way home and get the flat tire .2 points

I'm am experimenting and Making a move and setting one up this weekend. It will be tucked off a gas line moast likely above where they are traveling from cover/bedding to feed. Going to monitor the area with a cell cam and make a move on these deer later in the season. My 7 year old who hunts with me religiously came up with the idea and I want reward his thinking by trying to capitalize on it for him. With deer in the freezer I figure we have alot more to gain from this experiment than to lose. Sent from my SM-A716V using Tapatalk2 points

Tried for a birthday buck today. Came close. Seen a 4pt bedded down in a field I could sneak around for a shot. Only needed a couple more steps, and a second doe I didn't see, seen me. Only thing close enough to shoot were these two skippers.2 points

Had a 9:00 meeting get canceled this morning, so I geared up and did some still hunting/scouting. Not a tail! Did find a nice tree to put a stand in along the corn though. Got back to the house at 1:30 all sweaty and frustrated, swearing I wasn’t coming back out this evening……. After a change of clothes and lots of water, here I am back out in a stand! I have issues…. Just hoping a big one (or possibly medium one at this point) will make a mistake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

11/29/21 This morning Kunox and I tracked a buck that had been shot 20 hours earlier. The hunter had only tracked 50 yards when he had a property line issue and backed out. He was on light blood for that 50 yards. Kunox initially took me into a standing corn field, but he wasn’t acting sure, so we did a restart at last blood. This time he took a trail that we had just seen a live doe on, so after letting him go a while and not seeing any evidence of the buck, back for another restart. The third time, he deviated slightly from the second trail and started tracking confidently and showed us a drop of blood about 50 yards from last blood. We continued a long way without seeing any blood, but suddenly Kunox went hot and I could clearly smell a buck. We continued in pursuit hoping for sign that we were on the right buck and a few minutes later, there it was…..a drop of blood confirming this was him. He was moving strong, his running track showed he was using all 4 legs. We only saw probably 2 ounces of blood on this entire track and no beds. We ended up going 1.4 miles, but that includes the restarts. This was a successful track….Kunox showed the hunter his deer is alive and well.2 points

This morning, biggest buck taken off the farm in a few years! Shot by my partners daughter, my God daughter. I think it's the buck I missed last Monday? Couldn't have worked out better. So happy for her! I'm sorry I wasn't there. I haven't hunted since Thanksgiving. Dealing with some issues. My season may be over.2 points
