  1. Just bought this beast! Taking my muzzleloader on a Bison hunt this fall, and the guide says I need a back up rifle. So I had a perfect excuse to buy it. I'll put it to use after the hunt, too. Might make a nasty deer rifle. Pretty excited.

  3. Wolc. You have strange tastes. I think your taste buds go on vacation once the walleyes go deep.... At any rate. Went out last night to fill the box, did that and tagged this nice 10#'r. Buffalo end. I'm sure the fish will taste awful, but somebody will eat em. Maybe paired with some BB balls.... Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  4. Picked up a couple walleye trolling before fireworks at midway park on chautauqua. My brother lost 1 not bad for 20 minutes of trolling. The gar and my sons walleye were from the day before same area. Just finished swimming and popped those 2 fish quickly. Lots of perch, sunnys, white bass caught while we were there. Snorkeled around a rocky shore line and caught crawfish, i fed a smallie while snorkeling. Threw the crawfish to him and he got it. Also found some "mudpuppies" hellbenders while flippin rocks. Great week.

  22. This park is just awesome, it’s down in Coal township p.a. and is on 7000 acres . It was our second time there and over our 3 days of riding we did 81 miles of trails in rocks , sand and mud holes. I came so close to swamping my wheeler the second day , we were on a trail called mud hole ally and I hit 3 holes and went into the forth and it was deeep. The atv started to float and stalled out, I got it started again and put it in reverse and paddled my way out.Glad it worked out as we were on the west side of the park and we were 40 mins out from the trail head . Wife and I had so much fun. You can ride dirt bikes ,atv’s , utv’s, jeeps and trucks. The one photo is a abandoned earth mover that broke down and the coal company left, I am 6-3 just to give a perspective.

  25. Congratulations, I was looking to purchase one of those Henry single shots in 45-70 for a couple of years but could never find one anywhere and ended up buying a 45-70 barrel for my Thompson Center Encore. I like the top lever design of the Henry single shot a lot and from what I have read they are nice shooters. I have looked them over in other calibers at gun shows and can see these are very well made rifles of very good quality. The 45-70 has been surely proven on Buffalo! Al

It's a very nice gun, if your going to add a scope go direct from.henry for.scope.base and hammer extension, quick delivery , and unless someone started.making bases they are only.one to fit properly ( picany rail style) the gun is unique and hammer extension is ambidextrous and is fitted to that specific hammer.. in time in sure other manufacturers will make proper accessories for.it but for now its really.only Henry

  32. Had a thunderstorm come through, tree went down up the road, took the lines down, so we have been without power since 3ish...we already had plans to go to a local restaurant bar on the lake a half mile away with my dad, and his girlfriend. Well they were out of power too, and the whole reason we all were going was because they were having a band my dad used to always go see more local to him. Well the band could not play due to no electric apparently, and then they announced that they were closing at 6 due to power being out. So, we had a couple beers together, then my dad, and his girlfriend went home, and Jenn drove us to a sports bar about 20 mins away where here, and I had a burger/fries. We were STARVING, I purposely hadn’t eaten all day since I never ate at the original restaurant before, and wanted to try it. Well after we ate at the second place, we went to our favorite pizzeria which is about 2 mins from where we ate, and grabbed a few slices for tomorrow’s lunch....then she wanted ice cream, so we grabbed a couple box push cones from the gas station. I am stuffed. Funny how our day/night turned out, feels like I am on vacation.

  36. It’s Nov 2, the written part , the physical part will be 6-8 weeks after ,followed by, your background ( done by the PD, about 40 hours) interviews , Drs exam and so forth . You’ll need a clean background , including good credit score, clean driving record ,work and school history . Now the list is good for four years, the current list has no one on it to hire anymore, in other words if you passed with a 70 and had a good background you got hired, contrast that to when I got on ,I had a 94 on the test and was nervous if I’d make it ! So few take it today .... Now if you loved playing sports, you’ll love the job, teamwork ,physical job and all that , if you were military please take it, you get points towards score as well , you’ll love it , command structure, team oriented, sogs and all that . Firefighters ( rank of) are making in the ‘80s once at full pay ,pension and healthcare . I went out as an LT , 113k my final year . the info is on the cities web page , and you need to be a city resident 90 days prior to the physical exam which will fall mid Dec. You’ll need to sign up soon , so get that city address ...... Now the down side , I have two close friends with seriously broken backs, a few with broken legs, ribs and arms . Expect to retire with a limp, or some sort of joint issues , not unlike any other physical job. I made it out ,with only a few joint issues, 8 or so trips to the emergency room and one surgery on my spine . Cancer is my biggest fear , we get it at a rate far above the general public, but we only had on set of goods, never washed them ,and I never showered after a fire, or put my mask on till my eyes and lungs were burning , they’re smarter today ...... Honestly, if you’re now or soon can be a city resident, give it some thought . You’ll work, nights ,weekends and holidays and love every day of it . The last list and this next one will be THE ones to be on they can’t keep up with retirements, and the number of test takers is down. Good luck.

  44. Looks like Missouri will join PA and Kentucky as another small resident herd state with a season...... MDC announces plan for Missouri elk hunting Limited season for Missouri residents could start as soon as 2020 if plan criteria are met. This image of a bull elk was taken at Peck Ranch Conservation Area in the Missouri Ozarks. MDC is proposing the framework for a limited elk hunting season and is asking for public comments at short.mdc.mo.gov/Z49. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shared its initial plan for a limited elk-hunting season with the Missouri Conservation Commission at the Commission’s public meeting June 28 at MDC headquarters in Jefferson City. The Commission gave its initial approval of the proposed plan, and MDC is asking for public comments. According to MDC Elk and Deer Biologist Aaron Hildreth, who presented the elk-hunting plan at the meeting, MDC will begin offering a limited season for hunting elk once the herd of about 175 animals reaches a minimum of 200 with an annual herd growth rate of at least 10 percent and a herd ratio of at least four cow elk for every bull elk. According to MDC research, the herd will likely reach 200 animals by 2020. With that in mind, MDC has designated a nine-day archery season for elk running Oct. 17-25, 2020, and a nine-day firearms season for elk running Dec. 12-20, 2020. Hildreth noted that the number of permits for a possible 2020 hunt has yet to be determined. “If the elk population is below desired numbers in early 2020, the Conservation Commission may choose to not open the online application process or issue any permits for a fall 2020 hunt,” he explained. “We will then focus on 2021.” MDC hopes to eventually reach a target population of 500 animals and will use hunting to manage herd size and location. Elk are a native species in Missouri but were hunted to extinction in the state through unregulated market hunting during the late 1800s. MDC worked with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to reintroduce the native species by capturing and transporting wild elk from Kentucky to a remote area of the Missouri Ozarks. The reintroduction effort took place in 2011, 2012, and 2013 with most of the 108 relocated animals being cow elk with some calves and immature bulls. Their numbers have grown, and their range has expanded in recent years to cover portions of Carter, Reynolds, and Shannon counties. The area consists of nearly 80 percent public land interspersed with tracts of private property. Hunting Framework Under MDC’s framework, elk hunting would be limited to Missouri residents at least 11 years of age who have their hunter-education certification or are exempt from hunter education by age (born before Jan. 1, 1967). Hunting permits would be assigned through a random lottery of all applicants. MDC will require a $10 application fee to be eligible for the limited hunt with a $50 permit fee for those selected through the lottery. MDC will limit the random lottery to one application per-person, per-year with a 10-year “sit-out” period for those drawn for a permit before they may apply again. The hunting zone will be limited to Carter, Reynolds, and Shannon counties, but will exclude the special refuge portion of Peck Ranch Conservation Area where elk were initially reintroduced. “Permits issued each year will be valid for a nine-day archery season beginning the third Saturday in October and a nine-day firearms season beginning the second Saturday in December,” Hildreth explained. He added that the timing of the seasons was designed to avoid the peak of elk breeding during late September and early October and to avoid the elk season coinciding with portions of the firearms deer season. “The allowed hunting methods for each season will be the same as for deer hunting,” Hildreth said. “The permits will allow for the harvest of one bull elk with at least one antler being greater than six inches in length. Successful hunters must Telecheck their harvested elk, like for deer.” Local Landowners Included According to MDC, local landowners have been supportive of the reintroduction of elk to the area and local communities have benefited from an increase in tourism related to elk. MDC will reserve at least one permit from the annual random lottery for resident landowners with at least 20 acres within a specified boundary within Carter, Reynolds, and Shannon counties. The special landowner permits will be nontransferable and may only be filled on the landowner’s property. “Qualifying landowners will not be required to pay the $10 application fee but will still pay a $50 permit fee if selected,” Hildreth said. “If selected, they will not be required to wait 10 years before again applying for the landowner permit. Qualifying landowners may apply once each year for a regular hunting permit and for a special landowner permit but may receive only one permit annually.” Public Comments and Next Steps MDC held several public meetings in communities around the elk restoration zone last December where staff discussed possible elk-hunting details. MDC also offered a statewide online comment period. As part of the rulemaking process, MDC is now again asking for public comment on the proposed elk-hunting framework through Aug. 31 at short.mdc.mo.gov/Z49. Refer to the following specific rules open for comment. PERMITS: 3 CSR 10-5.700 Resident Antlered Elk Hunting Permit. This rule establishes a permit for residents to take an antlered elk in open counties during the elk hunting season. 3 CSR 10-5.705 Resident Landowner Antlered Elk Hunting Permit. This rule establishes a permit for resident landowners to take an antlered elk on their property within the resident landowner permit zone during the elk hunting season. SEASON SPECIFICS: 3 CSR 10-7.700 Elk Hunting Seasons: General Provisions. This rule establishes general provisions for hunting elk. 3 CSR 10-7.705 Elk: Hunting Season. This rule establishes seasons, limits, and provisions for hunting elk. 3 CSR 10-7.710 Elk: Landowner Privileges. This rule establishes provisions for resident landowners to hunt elk on their property within the resident landowner permit zone during the elk hunting season. HUNTING ON PUBLIC LAND: 3 CSR 10-7.715 Elk: Regulations for Department Areas. This rule incorporates elk hunting on department areas in Chapter 7. 3 CSR 10-11.190 Elk Hunting. This rule establishes provisions for elk hunting on department areas. The Commission will consider input received during this public comment period and make a final decision to move forward, modify, or withdraw the proposed framework during its Oct. 11 meeting. If the framework is approved, MDC staff will then compile and review biological data on herd size, growth, and structure to determine if the inaugural hunt will occur in 2020. If the data supports a hunt for 2020, MDC staff will then present their recommendations on permit numbers to MDC’s Regulations Committee and Conservation Commission early next year. MDC staff will continue to use biological data on herd size, growth, and structure in future years to determine the number of permits issued for each season.
