I saw the usual one on 16 this morning on my way home but they didn't have the road blocked ,it was the voluntary one they have had for years.

I passed by there yesterday and looked like no customers there around 1:00 pm or so. Pretty quiet.

Because the honest have nothing to be worried about, but there are plenty that aren't honest and will either get caught or think twice about breaking the law.

Most  poachers are the guys hunting behind their houses not tagging deer ,  trespassing on neighbors ,  , using shotgun during ML season etc    I'd bet most deer on a vehicle are tagged and legal and if you're driving around with a loaded long gun you're an idiot and deserve a ticket

I don't understand people complaining that they write equipment violation tickets during a roadblock... Don't break the law and you won't get a ticket. Very simple. It took an extra 5 minutes out of my day. If they caught 1 of the local scumbags with an untagged deer or guy road hunting or no hunting license then it's worth it to me. The officers were quick and pleasant and weren't digging for violations. You can whine that they're generating revenue but they're also protecting our hunting by doing so, I honestly don't get the negative feelings?

so the 4 doe that were bedded near me ended up staying a total of 5 hours before I was able to sneak off when the wind picked up a little. Landowner saw 6 doe in his front yard (including an albino) right after I left his house and saw no bucks with them and I saw zero bucks with the 4 doe that were bedded near me. Kind of odd if you ask me...maybe the rut is already starting to waine. I figured with the full moon last Monday we'd have great action going on during this weekend with possibly some lock down, but not a single buck on 2 different doe groups. Last day time buck pick if gotten was on the 13th. Although when i went to my spot in 3M to do some scouting for a new stand, just as I picked the perfect tree I heard this weird noise like an antler hitting a sapling. Turns out there was a monster buck that broke out from the thick brush and ran right past my father and into the apple orchard. He said it was the biggest deer he's ever seen and counted at least 10 points, but it was on a full sprint so who knows how accurate it was. He was no more than 40 yards in the cover from me the whole time. Maybe next time ill go there instead of my spot in 3J. I've seen way more buck sign and activity. I also got to watch a flock of 30 turkey roost in a couple different tree's

If I'm driving I have a loaded gun in the truck, I can't figure out how that makes me an idiot?

Chris, not something to argue or fight about but I believe it is entrapment, which is illegal.  Go get some criminals,  it's all about revenue and zero about anyone's safety.

My son's BIL harvested what he thought was a 4 point ( spike on one side, 3 point on the other)  buck today. Upon further investigation, turned out to be an antlered doe. Placement onto the hay wagon;  sheded the spike. Some fine hunting in the 50 mph wind gust and falling grapple.

Let's not wreck this great thread by arguing about the methods that law enforcement use to catch scofflaws.

Let's not sit here and pass judgement either. On whether I know when sunrise is, shoot more than once or take a buck with one 3.5 inch spike. There's other places to spout off.

Thank you all in advance

There are rules to follow when using government owned roadways, if you don't want to follow said rules don't use the roadways. Nobody is trapping anybody, you got caught using roadways illegally/with illegal equipment. Not tagging deer or driving around with loaded long guns does make you a "criminal."

Looks like potentially record snow fall for this area on this day. And that sucks because I have a two wheel drive vehicle with tires I meant to replace before the winter comes. There is in my estimation an extremely high chance I will be totally unable to park it anywhere near the WMA I planned to spend all day hunting at. I can't park on the road, and if I get off the road at all I'll never get the vehicle moved.

I'll try anyway, though I bet the drive is going to be pretty crazy to get there now.

Felt like the wind just jerked my ladder off the ground

That happened to me yesterday morning.  After that I got down.  I had to readjust everything on the stand to make it safe again.  Check your straps.  My adjustable stabilizer pole that goes between tree and ladder actually got pushed in so it was shorter.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
