Who wears head to toe camo when hunting? If you do do you think it helps?

 

I rarely have camp on if I do it’s pants because that’s what I have sprayer with sawyers. Usually just a flannel shirt or sweatshirt on top. The only exception to this is turkey hunting when I always have a camo shirt on.

 

What made me think of this is I was watching a hunting show last night and they were out west after mule deer And the hunter was head to toe camo and the guide had jeans a flannel shirt and white cowboy hat on. I have to imagine that a guide that does it for months straight thought that camo would help his hunters kill more critters he would be wearing it.

 

I think the average hunter wears more camo to Walmart than I do in the woods.

I wear camo for turkey and bow season.  I don't worry as much for rifle.  Out West I wouldn't think it would matter as much because of the distances.  

It probably doesn't matter as much as we think it does, but it doesn't hurt.  I was watching videos on Hunting Beast's channel on Youtube where he was bow hunting in a red plaid shirt.  The best turkey hunter I know has shot spring birds in blue jeans and a grey hooded sweatshirt.  

Success probably has more to do with sitting still, moving slow and seeing them first.  I will continue to wear camo, but it's interesting to think about.

I guess I look at it this way.  I am gonna keep clothes separate for hunting and keep them as scent free as possible. So why would I not buy camo?   

So yes head to toe camo.

Ha ha ha I love the last line. I wear all camo during bow and regular seasons but it’s all mismatched hand me downs or cheap clearance camo I find.

Outside of hunting I never have camo on.

That's the beautiful thing about hunting: the only absolute is the kill shot.

Although I think camo can be overrated, I typically wear it. I think that the right hunting clothing has several advantages over a pair of Levi's. The fit and function being one, the materials are often better suited for hunting, (quieter/softer/warmer). The placement of seams and pockets is certainly better suited to hunting than the typical walking around the mall clothes. Some of it also has scent reducing liners, windshear liners, goretex etc... And I also think that camo can and does work in certain scenarios, depending on the camo pattern and breaking up the silhouette I don't see how it couldn't work some honestly. I don't think the color makes too much of a difference but the contrast and breakup lines is what keeps your silhouette from truly being seen. So yes, as a rule I use my camo because it fits/feels and is better suited to my hunting needs.

I wear a one piece camo overall for all my hunting ! Easy on Easy Off works for me !

I have not wore camo in years.......   Last couple times out i wore brown carpenter jeans with a green carthart pull over.  Gets the job done just fine.............

When hunting on the ground in open hardwoods in the midwest, I used to wear 2 contrasting camo patterns. Desert camo pants slipped over inner layers, and some sort of tree bark/branch camo jacket. I watched my brother in law walk away from me. Once he was 75 yds or more away, it was amazing how he disappeared. No matter what the background, there was no obvious human form apparent.

It also seemed to work well in exposed tree stands. I once reloaded my muzzleloader while a deer stared at me after I ran about 80 yds away and stopped. I was able to drop it in addition to the one I killed with the 1st shot as it trotted under me at less than 15 yds.

How do you keep from getting overheated on the walk in?

It's been my observation that if you dont move deer have a hard time seeing you  no matter what you have on .

And if you move especially fast movements they will see you no matter what you have on .

I wear camo all of the time in NY when on stand. If I am walking or hunting state land I wear a reverseable camo beanie turned to the blaze orange side. Too many idiots out there. In PA I add a blaze orange vest to meet the requirement.

I have found it be important that the material be quiet (like fleece) and not shine.

Yes,  deers eyes are not great.  Nothing like a coyote or fox.........

I've busted two trespassers while I was in a tree stand wearing head to toe camo (same stand for both trespassers). One was in gun season, one was in bow season. They never saw me and I let them get within 20 yards or so before I said something.

Was fun to see them jump out of their skin at the sudden sound of my voice.

Busted another trespasser (one of the same above) who stalked my decoys during spring turkey a number of years ago. I stood up and shouted as soon as he was in sight and I realized he wasn't a deer coming through the brush. I don't know if the camo helped in that case as we were both blocked by brush. My decoys at the time were poor quality (still are). He was 30-40 yds away and was raising the gun when I got his attention.

Of course they were "turned around", thought they were on a different property, blah, blah, blah.

As I escorted the turkey hunter to the property line, I suggested he invest in glasses if he thought my crappy decoys were real at 30 yds.

I don't think its necissary for deer hunting. Deer have poor eye sight so anything earth tone will do the job and flannel is just fine. For turkey I am wearing head to toe camo. Now I do wear head to toe camo for deer hunting but thats becasue most of my best hunting clothes are camo. Early in the season I do wear some flannel jac shirts that are pretty nice.

I have a coworker who does not hunt, never has, never will, cant stand the sight of blood, or needles.  He was spotted in full camo one night by another coworker in walmart lol.  Our boss will get this guy a doe each year, and when this nonhunter drops the deer off at the processor, and picks it up, hes in full camo, haha.

I personally wear full camo at home, and at camp.  I only hunt deer though.  When gun season opens i have a little orange on.  At my southern spot after work, i wear regular clothes if its not brutal cold.  I think camo helps, but isnt necessary.  I do believe a face mask is one of the most critical items to have, deer seem to know a human face in my book.  I find when I forget a mask deer will instantly look up, and lock on, and stare. I close my eyes at that point slowly.

Full Camo through the whole hunting season. I look at this way, I've got clothes for everything I do: FR clothes for work, older jeans for tractor work, saw pants for chainsaw work, snowmobile clothes for riding, mtn bike clothes, hiking clothes....Dam,I'm high maintenance.

I have camo boxers    Not sure they'll ever help me go unnoticed by any deer or turkey

Camo wallets , don't get it   Drop that sucker while out hunting and kiss it goodbye

I've shot deer in blue jeans. Is camo needed, to me the answer is no. The proper paperwork in all seasons, along with orange in  firearm season for safety, that's needed. The deer don't give a hoot what your wearing, as long as it doesn't smell human.
