None of the 10 cell cams even had a pulse last night! Not one deer!! Just pics of coyotes, fox and coons! Trying to keep the faith, but lose some with each passing morning I wake up to dead cams and have dead woods every day. Surly one of these days... My son has hunted a property 2 miles away for the past 3 seasons now. He said it seems like the bucks don't start seeking or chasing until ~11/9 there. Trying to remain positive. In the mean time, heading out for hunt #20....

Been sitting for a bit woods are quiet and feeling like it’s coldest morning so far.  Wind is favorable so hopefully big boys are seeking.

Seems like you're about due with all the activity around your place.  Knock one down!!!

Live from the livingroom for me.  26 degrees out when I got up.  Heavy frost.  Work today and then hopefully hunt the farm this weekend.  Work Monday and Tuesday, then I should be off for the rest of the year (other than a few firewood deliveries).

Good luck everyone.

Good luck today to all who are out. Unfortunately life calls and I'm back in the office for the day and then Friday night lights so I won't be back out until Saturday. Yesterday afternoon saw a doe with fawn a small 6 and nothing else. A buddy text me as I was walking out said he needed a hand. I met him at 8 to start looking he marked where the shot happened and then back out until we got there. We went about 60 to 70 yards when the lights hit a set of eyes about 30 yes in front of us and at that time the blood went from good to drops. The eyes took off and I had an uneasy feeling and sure enough it was the buck he shot and the three spots he bedded down. When he jumped he opened up and was bleeding pretty good again so I told my buddy we can back out or push him to make him bleed out hopefully. He decided to push and 100 or so yards later he was done.

Same thing here! I know the deer are still here, just don't seem to be following traditional travel patterns? Food preferences are the biggest difference, with a low crop of acorns this year locally. Got six days to hunt, starting tomorrow, and a plan to hunt set up's we haven't hunted in awhile. This is the best week of all to be in the deer woods. I plan to make something happen!!! Keep positive and grind it out!

Last day of work for a bit....Pretty sure I'll be out at 2 to get finished packing and house stuff. Then go time, hopefully. Partner is still feeling down sick. I got anitbiotics and bingo....I'm on day five of them and feeling 75% better. Partner got on them Wednesday, but still feeling sick and not turned the corner yet. Not sure whatever we caught but it has/is whooping our butts. Not Covid, four tests between us. It’s really crushed our hunting so far.

Hoping we at least timed the rutcation right, both in health and activity. Had a daywalker once each day so far this week on cams, but haven't seen that "explosion" yet. Cams in areas where I let them run all summer and haven't moved - activity fell off a cliff this week, so certainly a shift.

Good luck to all out there.

Did they find this buck?

Was wondering if they found this buck? Stated there was a good blood track for a mile.  Hopefully, they continues searching and we’re successful. An average deer has approximately 8 pints of blood.  And should be recovered after it  loses  35% of its blood it will  be recoverable.  So that’s an average of 128 ounces of blood minus 35% ( 44.8 ounces rounded to 45.  A good blood flow track for a distance of a mile, should result in recovering the deer shortly after picking up the trail the next day here’s hoping your successful in your recovery..

Makes perfect sense if you think about blood loss…blood pressure decreases with less blood to pump…that’s from my favorite reading material 91b4c431cb93f23dce586f73ba4ad2bd.jpg

John was my mentor in bloodtracking, and for Deersearch. Every hunter, regardless of experience, will learn something from this book! Being on a blood trail with John, was like a musician getting to sit in with Pink Floyd!!!

Seeing the same here.  No hard mast has the deer browsing on brush and they still hit the hayfields pretty hard. I keep trying to think of the biggest bramble patches I know of...The woods seem empty but I know the deer are still here somewhere...

sounds like it wasn't on purpose. also treestand angle is terrible for a frontal. from the ground, when planned up close you are going in the chest and out the back hip. Unless a kevlar vest is on, that deer is dead in 8-17yds.

Back at it for a quick hunt before work this AM. 29 degrees in 3S with a 732am sunrise and gentle 3MPH winds. My last hunt before the clocks change.

Were all arrows found ?if so,how much penetration did they have ?

2 of 3 yes. The 2 I found were maybe a few inches deep. I think broadheads still attached. One we didn't find, but a neighbor killed the buck during gun and showed us the broadhead buried in the shoulder completely healed over in a puss sack. They are resilient animals.
