All my Archery equipment is basically vintage, I pretty much stopped serious bow hunting years ago so I never had the need to buy something current, the old stuff still works well enough for me for the few times a year I may bow hunt. Today I had several of the old bows out at the same time and slung a few arrows. I have these old timers all set up arrow wise about the same and shoot them all with fingers with Easton aluminum gamegetters and xx75s instinctive. I did put a single pin sight on the old Bear recurve to try but today I just shot instinctive, it is what I am used to. I really do not shoot one any better than the other group wise, was laying them in there about the same for all three. The Oneida Eagle aero-force I purchased a few years ago and refurbished has become a favorite, best of both worlds of the recurve and compound, smooth. The main drawback it is heavy. I remember being able to shoot these bows all day long, today after an hour or so I was getting tired, sucks to get old. left to right Browning Explorer, Bear Super Kodiak, Oneida Eagle Aero-Force6 points

I see your point. But, the only hitch is that you will likely just get a low ball offer for your auto loader on a trade in? Kinda defeats the purpose with low funds. And believe me, I understand low funds!!! If you have your heart set on using a good quality pump for deer this season, I have one you can borrow. An Ithaca Deerslayer 2, with a 1x4 Leupold, that has put down a pile of deer in the past. Will hit where you aim out to 100 yards. I even have ammo for it, that it loves! And she is a real looker too, with beautifully grained walnut.5 points

Or the 270 Win. Bang - Flop. But the 7mm-08 may just be the perfect whitetail round. 30-06 or 308??? Flip a coin.5 points

I won't do it again. Used to have a deer parade from this certain spot, most every time I hunted it. This one old matriarch doe would bust me from time to time. So one time during early bow, she did her usual foot stomping, head bobbing, and blowing thing. But she made the mistake of coming closer for a better look, and turned broadside at 18 yards. She tipped over 30 yards from that spot. But.....It took years, before the deer parade resumed in that spot again. After taking her out. The next doe to lead the parade, chose a different route between bedding and feeding.5 points

The only real difference is that the .308 fits in a short action and may be a slightly shorter rifle... As far as performance goes on deer sized game , flip a coin....Any differences are merely splitting hairs... Lots of factory ammo selections for both rounds also..5 points

WHAT...A....DAYYYYYY! we just got back a little while ago from our longest ATV ride to date. 98.5 mile trip, just awesome! So, we all know that it is a small world. Well we were about 40 miles in on our ride today, and we come around a bend, and there are small trees down blocking the trail. I go take a look, I try moving them, but they were twisted and tangled making it impossible by hand. Then I try snapping pieces off, when all of a sudden I hear motors....ended up being 2 ATVs, and a badass brand new Turbo Pro XP side by side. They all walk over, we try ganging up, etc, I hook my winch up, but my ATV just isn’t heavy enough...So, a few mins later, another UTV shows up on the other side of the downed trees, he is a 4 seater with a big winch. That machine had the snot to yank the mess aside enough, for us all to pass. Here’s where it turns into a small world, the original group of 2 ATVs, and the Turbo were all headed to the sane restaurant, which at this point is maybe 3-5 miles away. They weren’t familiar with the trails, and asked if I mind leading them, I said of course not, let’s go. We all arrive at the restaurant, and fuel up, and head in....The husband/wife of the turbo machine was asking where we were from, I told him the Catskills of NY. He said oh ok, we are from Sussex County, NJ, which is like 30 minutes from our hours. Mind you, were are about 550 miles from home at this place. I tell him oh wow, I am 30 minutes north of Port Jervis, and I work in Middletown, NY. Oh wow, blah blah blahh we back and forth say. Then he says I just bought that machine outside from Middletown at Cycle Motion...I held up my ATV key chain I had on the table, its a Cycle Motion key chain....My atv was bought new there, just like that Turbo UTV! Such a crazy small world. So, we all had a quick meal together, and I lead us the 50 miles back to town. Great people.4 points

the family farm is a doe factory as it's mostly hay/alfalfa fields that get cut later in the hay season. we've always limited doe harvest to keep good numbers of deer. for the past several years i've also run a qdm co-op that takes really good records and we even send in incisor teeth for aging on top of panel aging jawbones with one of the top deer biologists in the country included. i've experimented for even longer with doe harvest. if you want to minimize impact on the population you leave mature doe alone unless they seem underconditioned and ancient (8.5+ yrs old). those mature doe from 4.5 to 6.5 or so crank out more deer. shoot young doe 1.5 - 3.5 yr olds. just be sure to watch for button bucks. if you're a same stand often kind of hunter or have pretty small parcel it helps to keep the older doe directing traffic. deer attract other deer especially doe during the rut. take them early and only from the same areas easily accessed. my best buck spots i make a point to pressure the doe very little.3 points

Douglas Andrews The most shocking thing about this anonymously sourced hit piece by The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg isn't its incendiary claim that President Donald Trump called our honored dead from World War I "suckers" and "losers." No, the most shocking thing — the most jaw-dropping thing — is that Goldberg and his editors actually believed it would have its intended effect; that even a single potential Trump voter would read their hyper-partisan hatchet job and think, Welp, the president said our boys were suckers and losers, so Scranton Joe it is! Clearly, Jeffrey's been bit by the Trump Derangement bug. And he's been watching too many old clips of CBS's Dan Rather. But at least Rather and his "60 Minutes" crew had a source when they interfered in the 2004 election with the infamous "fake but accurate" attack on President George W. Bush. Admittedly, Rather's source was a flaky and virulent Bush hater. But, still, he was a source with an actual name — a guy whose credibility and motives could be examined. The once-proud Atlantic, though, sees fit to viciously smear this president just prior to an election without so much as a single on-the-record source. Goldberg's use of anonymous sources is especially rich since he himself decried their use in a 2016 New York Times Magazine article that embarrassed the Obama administration. "I did not find this mention of my name amusing at all," he said, "because [the journalist who wrote the story] is making a serious, unsourced, and unsubstantiated allegation against me in an otherwise highly credible publication." As for his own story, Goldberg claims his sources would be standing tall if it weren't for, well, social media. "They don't want to be inundated with angry tweets and all the rest," he says with a straight face. And hacks like him wonder why grassroots Americans don't trust the media. As always, President Trump was quick to respond. More important, though, were the witnesses — now 10 in all — who have since jumped to his defense. Said former Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney: "I never heard the President disparage our war dead or wounded. In fact, the exact opposite is true. I was with him at the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy. As we flew over the beaches by helicopter he was outwardly in awe of the accomplishments of the Allied Forces, and the sacrifices they paid." Not even Trump-hating John Bolton believes The Atlantic. "I didn't hear either of those comments or anything even resembling them," he said. "I was there at the point in time that morning when it was decided that he would not go Aisne-Marne cemetery. He decided not to do it because of John Kelly's recommendation. It was entirely a weather-related decision, and I thought the proper thing to do. I never heard he made that kind of comment about another country's forces either, no." Bolton also asserted that if the president had said he didn't want to visit Aisne-Marne because the interred heroes were "losers" and "suckers," he would have written an entire chapter about it in his book. Enough said. Time was when a publication like The Atlantic could get away with using anonymous sources. This is how former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein tried to justify it — by trying to compare the Atlantic's piece to the Watergate reporting he and Bob Woodward did nearly half a century ago. "That's the only way to do this," he said. "And we must continue in the press to do our reporting day by day by day because that's how we know who this president — what this presidency really is. The fake news is the president's news. We're doing the real reporting." But that was then, and this is now. When Woodward and Bernstein were blazing the trail for a new generation of advocacy journalists, most Americans still trusted the Fourth Estate. These days, however, 55% of us don't trust reporters. And why should we? A 2017 Harvard study found CNN and NBC's coverage of President Trump to be an astounding 93% negative, with CBS, The New York Times, and The Washington Post following close behind. As for the awfulness of this particular story, even the first lady felt compelled to weigh in. "The Atlantic story is not true," she tweeted. "It has become a very dangerous time when anonymous sources are believed above all else, & no one knows their motivation. This is not journalism — It is activism. And it is a disservice to the people of our great nation." Judge Jeanine Pirro slams the lies here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy8aLM6mjSA3 points

I'll do it..... Neither. Get a 243win and shoot a 90 gr all copper bullet like Barnes TSX or Noslers e-tip. Little recoil at a typical hunting weight rifle, and zips right along making all copper perform well.3 points

If she blows... she must go . Played that game ... big mature doe I let pass busted me ..For a few years she would blow on me and carry on . They day I took my revenge i set up in a different spot . She walked in on my stand and started her foot stomping and blowing. I wasn't even in that stand. As she walked off the one stand and entered an opening acrossed and down the bench 60 yards I dumped her ... probably 2nd most satisfying harvest .3 points

I shot my first deer in November of 1978 at the age of 12, in Westmoreland county PA with a 30-30. It died. Since then I have shot them with a 30-30, 270, 270WSM, 308, 30-06 and a 338WM. They all died. I am no expert on rifles, but it is my experience that choosing the correct bullet is far more important than the caliber. For the last few years I have used 30-06 Hornady American Whitetail 150gr. InterLock. They too kill deer and are exceptionally accurate in my rifles.2 points

The problem with these questions is that other than a very few on here most on here haven’t killed 10 deer with a rifle. I’m not putting anyone down but unless you’re in a few small areas most likely you’re only killing 1 or 2 deer a year with a rifle. And a large portion of the state has been shotgun only until not that long ago. That being said both the 30-06 and 308 have been around a long time and are both fine choices for deer/bear in New York as well as anything else that walks on North America other than maybe a costal brownie. Me personally I own both and have killed deer with both. They both do it all very well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Leaning? The non stop hatred and propaganda being spewed by the same people on this "hunting" site is nauseating! Their attempts to convert anyone here I think is doing nothing but making others even more committed to vote for President Trump. If for no other reason I say go ahead and keep it up!2 points
