Big six point came out ears pinned back and stiff legged at dusk to fight a fork horn that was bumping a doe. Took him left handed because i didnt want to risk moving too much as I was on the ground in a Rhino blind. My second buck with the crossbow. He is 16 inches wide dressed out at 155. I checked a camera and found a picture of him the day i killed him (November 8th) just on the other end of the farm.15 points

First time catching the piebald on his feet this late in the morning. He was laying down in an open field yesterday morning guarding a feeding doe. Hopefully this is a good sign that bucks are finally starting to move in my area!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk14 points

Not sure if it’s the one that almost railroaded me, but once it got light enough I grunted a few times and he appeared about 55 yds away. Grunted again and he came right in. 18 yd shot and he ran maybe 20. Getting ready to climb down. Pics soon!13 points

Holy crap! I’m almost to my stand and I hear one running off. No wait he’s coming at me! The deer stops on the other side of a beech tree. 4 or 5 yards away, I can hear it breathing. Then it ran rift past me within feet. I was two steps away from my stand so I waited a minute and climbed up. Haven’t heard anything since. Wow! That woke me up!10 points

11/11: Hunted 3S this Morning till 830am before work. 17th overall sit of the year and it was an Insane morning! The chocolate 8pt I saw a few weeks ago but couldn’t shoot came out at 650am at 70yds he made a big loop across the swamp shoulder deep and the on the rocks above me. I took video of him at 80yds. I tried grunting but he just kept slowly walking. When I took the video (screenshot pic attached) I noticed he finally stopped and was looking across my valley to other side. So I looked over there and the big crabclaw 10pt was there. He was 75yds from me so I was between them both. The 10pt has much lighter/whiter antlers. He was working his way away from me as well walking slow. Then I caught movement in my valley and there was a really spike coming at me. I’m guessing my grunting at the chocolate 8pt got the other 2 moving. Since I was last here on Friday the cam has : Crab 10pt Chocolate 8pt Bobcat And three new bucks: Smaller low tines 8pt 7pt with one brow much bigger than other Tall spike who I saw today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro8 points

34 out and up Had one walk by me in the dark. My brother is in my far stand past the Hole. I heard his crossbow go off and saw a deer run. He toasted the big boy I posted in my journal yesterday! I’ll get a pic when we get down and go get him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk8 points

Honestly my friend, I never really pay any attention to what other hunters are hunting with? Makes no difference to me at all. I like to switch back and forth, between my compound and crossgun....er....I mean crossbow. Crossgun...... I still laugh when I hear that! It's sorta like when someone says... "did ya catch a deer"?7 points

What's your point? I'm also surprised how many people are still rocking a vertical bow. Thier all implements that achieve results (kill deer). All joking aside, it's called a crossbow. People on this forum don't normally make comments like wow surprised how many are using the bow, so why even be surprised or even comment when you see people using the crossbow? Bored?7 points

Just had a little bit excitement. Had a borderline shooter with his mouth wide open come busting across a swamp ~50 yards from me. He hung a right, instead of a left, so no shot. Looked like he might have been chasing and was trying to take a short cut to intercept a doe. Might not sound like much, but it’s the most excitement I’ve had in my previous 28 hunts! Great job Paul. I am dying to get a better pic of this guy. Not sure when I can get out next but cool that he is running around.7 points

Saw two different mature bucks cruising at mid day. One above where I was set up, one below. Way too far for a shot. Both hugging thick cover. Had something happen late this afternoon, that I have never heard before in the deer woods. I was in a hub blind close to thick cover, (notice a pattern here?) when a buck started grunting. And grunting. And grunting! Non stop! For almost 20 minutes! I couldn't see him. But I don't think he was moving, pretty much stationary? No sticks breaking or anything like that. Just non stop grunting! Have no idea whether it was an old or young buck. I've heard tons of bucks grunting over the years. But never like this. For so long. Non stop! And yes, I'm positive it was a buck grunting. Anyone else ever have this happen? Three doe's out front on edge of thick stuff, before the buck grunting began. Towards the end I got laughing, thinking this buck will grunt himself hoarse! It ended as abruptly as it started. I estimate he grunted a minimum of 200 times!! Non stop! Whatayathink????7 points

11/10/21 This morning Kunox and I tracked a buck that was shot last evening. The hunter and a friend had followed blood a short distance before losing it, then continued for about 50 yards before calling me. Kunox made short work of this 370 yard track. The buck had turned and gone in a different direction than they were looking last night. He was very happy to get a morning leg chew. The hunter said he would have never found it without Kunox….something trackers like to hear.7 points

Nov 8 sat in my notoriously good crusing spot for mornings. 6:55 have two 8 points cruising together across the field. They come right under me to 3 yards. The smaller of the two, whom was the leader, spotted me and they spooked out to 25 yards. At this point I was on them but had no shot. They calmed down and began walking, stoped him and squeezed the shot off, I can still see my arrow fletchings wack the only branch and drive bomb my arrow. The way he acted I didn’t think I really caused any type of fatal hit, white hair at hit site, clean arrow. In the mean time I recocked my crossbow in case a doe came in, at 7:12 two doe came on the same path but turned at 15 yards and gave me a perfect shot. Hit her good and she didn’t make it back across the field. I recovered my doe, left the area , and went to a friends house with the arrow, he inspected it and insisted their was a gut odor although I didn’t think so. I went back at 4 pm and confirmed it was in fact a gut hit, I called many tracking dogs but had no luck. I advanced the track about 50 yards and decided with the cold temps, property lines, I had to come back at first light. And secure permission from the next two properties which I did. 730 am we found blood after about 10 minutes and he stared to open up. We had steady blood the whole way as he entered some real thick stuff( we were on our hands and knees). After about 200 yards of blood we came upon him in his first bed dead. He probably died sometime last night. Coyotes and birds did not get him and I salvaged most of the meat. That’s a wrap for me till gun season. When in doubt, back out.7 points

As a member of 6 years and with limited participation. I’m realizing possible reasons why I’ve limited my participation. The personal attacks and sniping back in forth a little mundane. So, seeing I accepted the limitations on free speech to become a member of this site (as every member did) I will offer the following to the membership that seems to want to combine multiple interest into a site based on hunting. Raunchy joke sites: and many other types Jokes4us.com, Top-Funny-Jokes.com Another thread I believe should be addressed is the political thread. Never saw so many unfounded facts stated as truth, and being abused by members of both party affiliates.6 points

When I signed on to be a member many years ago, I related this forum to reading a hunting magazine like Outdoor Life, Field & Stream or Fin & Feather. Unfortunately the print media has faded away because of the so called progress of the internet. I've very much enjoyed reading everyone's hunting experiences, pictures and related hunting and fishing stories. The Chuckle was one of the most enjoyable threads that I went to when ever I had time to look at the forum. Water Rat's posts were classic humor. Somewhere along the line the thread degraded into Chef posting crude memes that had nothing to do with outdoor activities. Just disgusting porn that was more suited on soft porn sites. I am far from a prude but if I wanted to look at porn, I would look at one of those site, not a hunting forum I would bet every dollar that I have that if I opened a porn site. I would not see any hunting related posts. I'm glad Chef got timed out again, but am in favor of his return if he cleans up his act. So that's my 2 cents. I'm sure many will disagree. So let's hear it. I have broad shoulders4 points

Pulling an unprepared all day sit in CT, should have brought another layer of cloths, some food and something to drink. A battery pack for my phone would have been smart too …I can stand to loose a few pounds anyway. Slow day so far one six point and one unknown deer so far. Hopefully it picks up4 points

Some land owners may go for that but the ones I deal with don’t really care and the lease income is 1-2% of the total income they make off the land (ag+timber + solar) so I just bite my tongue and try to stay in their good graces. It’s a tough pill to swallow but if I make too many headaches I risk them saying to hell with leasing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I tend to agree with you guys saying tending grunts. I have heard tending grunts in the past. Almost sounds like a rhythmic 'tic-toc' over and over. But this one was more of a 'bahh' of varying durations. Never heard anything like that before! But tending a doe is the only thing that makes sense. So cool to go out and see, or hear something new from deer, after about 50 years hunting them! Thanks for you're comments guy's.4 points

Sat the edge of the bean field again for the last 2 hrs of the day as it's an easy and quick stand for me to hop in after work. I had a buck down over the bank from me grunting and pacing back and forth but never got a good luck at his head gear as he was in a bunch of thick stuff. There's a patch of woods that that sticks out into the field on opposite side that's only 10 yards wide at the widest spot and is roughly 300 yards from me. With about an hour or so left of shooting light I see a doe come flying out with a little 6 running her hard. I get caught up watching them so much that I didn't see the other buck come out until he was about 50 yards from me and coming in hot. I grab my bow and am about to draw when I realize it's the up and comer. With this being the last week he's really beginning to push his luck.4 points

I saw nothing this morning. My girlfriend had texted me that she saw four deer in a field down the road heading to work this morning and two of them were bucks. We saw two bucks in the same field on Sunday morning. I went there mid day to check the wind and I came up with a plan. I set up my doe decoy (AKA Kaitlyn) and I blended myself in on the hedgerow. At 4:15 I looked across the field, about 250 yards, and here comes a tall eight pointer on a B-line towards my decoy. I got my crossbow raised and when he was about fifty yards out he stopped. He back peddled about ten yards and began to slowly wandered off. I bleated a couple of times and he would stop and look but continued to walk away. I thought it was going to happen tonight. That was one of the coolest hunts, my heart was pounding out of my chest!4 points

Well didnt have to go far for this big male. Let my dog out and scanned my field, saw this guy cutting across it. Grabbed my .204, and rabbit distress hand call and snuck my way towards my field. He was walking the edge of our field near a neighbors backyard whos lab was barking his head off at this yote. Gave some tasty sounding rabbit squeals and he started to head down wind of me, one more squeal and he stopped broadside. Good hit, he did his death spins then started running, he made it to the bank of our new pond and ofcourse rolled down the bank into the water... fished him out, soaking wet he weighed 54lbs, so guessing close to 50 dry which would make him my biggest yote.4 points

11/11/21 am 34 I was in the outer Hole stand and my brother in the double past the Hole. I had one walk under me before light. Certain it was a buck but not sure how big. After a while I heard my brothers crossbow shoot and see a deer run from out by his stand about 300 yards away. He hit the big 8 I had on cam and it fell within sight. I did see a spike after that and one running in the thick. Then went over to see the buck. Beautiful 3.5 yo 8 point. Dressed 166 pounds. He has been out 7-8 times and this is the first deer he has seen all bow and he leaves for a Hawaii trip tomorrow am and won't be back until after bow is over so way to be down to the wire!! I only stayed in stand 1.5 hours.3 points

Unusual for me, but trail cams had a lot of activity last night, so that's encouraging anyways. One definite shooter and another would probably be in danger at this point.3 points

Hunting partner wanted to experiment with scrapple, so we made a batch from the livers, hearts, and shanks from 2 does plus some venison sausage from last season. Actually smells pretty good. Froze 2 of them and the official taste test will happen Sat morning (if we’re not dining on fresh buck heart + eggs)3 points
