  1. Had a buck around last fall that had some unique curled brow tines. I got a pic of a nice buck last week and as soon as I saw his brows, it reminded me of the buck from last fall. Sure looks like it could be the same buck? If not the same buck, the same genetics anyways.

  5. Maybe I am traumatized from my childhood but whenever cube steaks get mentioned all I ever wonder is why? We had them often (I assume because they where a cheap meat) they where always dry yet greasy. I had to douse them with ketchup to make then edible. My poor mother thought I had an obsession with ketchup growing up. I do not have the heart to tell her that I loved ketchup so much growing up because it made her well done everything taste better.

  6. Competed 2 weeks ago in Smyrna,Delaware against a pretty stacked field and took 1st place. Got my Golden Ticket to compete in the Worlds Championship in Fort Worth,Texas next March. If you’ve never competed in an SCA event it really is a lot of fun and meet some great people. Here’s my winning steak

  8. I finished up the last of my food plots yesterday morning, getting in about (3) acres of wheat/clover mix. I usually wait until September, to plant that, but I had the time and the soil moisture content was nearly perfect yesterday morning, so I “jumped the gun” by a week this year. It will be interesting to see if the deer prefer “Imperial Whitetail” clover, or “Spot-on” clover/alphalfa blend. I don’t have any experience with the “buck on the bag” stuff, but the price was right (free) this time, so I went with it. The free Whitetail Institute “Tall Tine tubers” that I planted a few weeks ago (behind the corn in 1st photo) germinated pretty good, so hopefully the clover does too. The “free “ seed was all 3-4 years old. The wheat “nurse crop” was leftover from last season. I also seed that on the light side (25 lbs/acre) when planting in combination with clover (3 pounds/acre).

  10. While we were out working on hunting land this weekend, couldnt help but laugh at our wall of clover. On one of the trails that we frost seeded in the spring, there was a literal wall of clover that ended where we stopped seeding. The clover all up that trail by the stand is just amazing and it ends right in straight line down the trail and its 4" higher. Frost seeding definitely works there. Going to do some more in different locations this next spring. Planning to rotate frost seeding that every 3 years or so pending how it looks. And frost seeding is an easy way to get some food going and a good day out in the wild come spring.

  11. I was lucky enough to grow up hunting private lands. Been hunting the same farms for over 30 yrs. For free. One farm was over 1000 acres in it prime. Now only 250. Never hunted state land, or leased. At my age, if I lost all of my private hunting areas, I'd quit before I paid to hunt or hunt public lands. I only need one deer a yr as my wife won't touch venison. I'd take one deer off my 8 acres, and be happy with that.

  12. I’ll stick to hunting stateland. Not paying someone’s taxes just to hunt deer.

  14. Archery Season is going to be a short one for me . Tentatively I am scheduled for knee replacement October 6 . That will give me a couple days of Bow and then nothing for 6 weeks . Possibly nothing for the balance of the year . Had x-rays taken today and an ultra sound on my leg tomorrow to check for blood clots . It's rough getting old but it sure beats the alternative .

  16. Why what ever happened to the liberal battle cry to unite all people together "We need to embrace diversity!" Who would have thought New York State could have anyone worse than former Governor Andrew Cuomo? Personally I believe Governor Hochul has ambition to aim for the office of president after she further ruins New York State. Hochul has supported every radical belief of the Democratic ideology. Bigger government involvement, support for illegal aliens, soft on violent criminals, more taxes, dumber and unsafe schools, killing unborn humans and before we forget, the most useless draconian gun control laws aimed at harassing, intimidating and threatening law abiding firearm owners.

  19. largest STATE park in the US. Very important distinction and after the state made it forever wild and eliminated logging, it's really, really tough hunting. The best thing NY could do would be to go in and selectively log the DAKs. It'd generate millions in revenue, fuel renewable resources from within the country instead of the rainforests of Brazil to help with the war on plastics and best of all open up the canopy to new young growth for wildlife to thrive. But yeah... never going to happen.

  21. except regular middle class people can't afford that for just hunting land. Those that can afford these leases are the rich and pushes us more and more towards the European model . It's not the case out west where public land is plenty, but sure is the case east of the mississipi and even the heartland.

  24. Just saw this.. rifle cost me $400+tx, sling and scope I already had.. The price was appealing when I first saw it. Then the store dropped it when I went back in. Picked it up at the local DSG. I've found some slammer deals on firearms there over the past few years.

  27. Leasing land for the year gives people a taste at ownership-how often was it used? How was the "commute"? Good neighbors/area for other things beyond hunting? Maybe they run hunting dogs too? Maybe they like Turkey hunting? Maybe they are strictly bow hunters-400 acres "plays bigger" then. Maybe $8000 is "chump change" for them? Maybe they are sick if public land hunting- well documented challenges. Maybe he could get $10,000 for it and is offering a deal to some lucky hunters? How does this change hunting in the future? Could people now just hunt land not owned by them without compensation or permission from the owner? Are people suggesting that land owners shouldn't make money off their land if they can? We leased years and years ago- our biggest issue was the exclusivity "promised" by the owner-it was fun for a few years Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. $18 per acre. Seems reasonable to me. 8 people go in on it and form a hunting club. Get a several year lease agreement. Alot cheaper than taxes to own.
