  1. Merry Christmas everyone. I couldn’t get out tonight due to plans with the family. And of course Santa gift wrapped for me one of my target bucks who has been quite elusive the last few weeks decided to make an appearance tonight. This is the first time that I have been able to get a pic of him looking towards the camera. I knew he was big, but now he really is breathtaking. Still have a few more weeks to go. Let’s see what happens. At this poo, I’m almost ready to start rooting for him to make it until next year I can’t wait to see what he’ll look like then

  2. Here's a quick shot from the top of small mountain after a three hour hike. This place is a paradise - hell to get here but once you do the wine is rich, the steak tender, and the fish slamming. I caught approx 45 fish yesterday including a brown that was the length of my fingertips to my armpit.

  3. You are covering a lot of territory there, Stormy...There are dog that excel at hunting wharf rats and dogs that excel at hunting mountain lions and bears, and a whole bunch of critters in between.... Then are those dogs who hang out in singles bars and hunt those split-tailed, double breasted thrashers, and that's a whole different breed...You'd have to ask BIZ about them....

  6. Got this from my better half. It replaces my 20 year old 18V Ryobi set. Handed down the still-functioning Ryobi set to one of our sons in law. Lots of tree stand work on the schedule for next summer!

  7. Sorry, ran out of likes real fast today for some reason. You all got a lot of nice things; very happy for you. Long story short, my shotgun scope crapped out a couple days before firearm season stated, so I had to use a backup gun, I wasn't use to. Needless to say, I paid for it on 11-19, anyways. I received a new Nikon Prostaff shotgun scope this holiday season, and I'm so happy. I can't wait to get that new puppy on my firearm and let the good times roll sighting that bad boy in.

  9. Christmas spirit is about the love all around us. Even in the worst of times, the smallest gifts can mean the most. I got choked up unwrapping this shadowbox photo of Jake with his old NY Giants collar inside. I know many of you would also give anything right now just to have your loved ones close by again. Enjoy the gifts and spirit of giving now with those you love. Merry Christmas everyone!

  12. I have used all kinds of stones ,diamond hones ,lanski/gatco, ceramics. My uncle has raved about his work sharp and how great it is . He use to have me sharpen all his knives . His buck hunter knife use to come to me looking like a serrated steak knife. I like to think I'm better than average at sharpening knives and tools. This year my wife gave me a work sharp ken onion addition for Christmas. I have watched the videos and infomercials. I was Intrigued. Box comes with 5 belts , sharpener , and manual. Read the manual brushed up on a couple videos.. Now to find a test subject.... I'm not going to start out with my fine Case knives or even a buck or my wife's kitchen knives .. My gramps always taught me to check out gut piles when ever you see one . Over the years I bet I have picked up a dozen or so knives on stateland . Had one down in the basement I found stabbed into the ground next to a large gut pile. Cheap carbon steele fake stag handle. Rusted and stained. Perfect !. Quick clean up remove grit from storage non chlorinated brake clean to remove oil . Inspect blade starting with a slight folded edge and rounded tip. Not terrible. Starting with coarse belt . 10 swipes both sides ... cleaned up well . Still didn't knock the shoulders off the old profile. Perhaps I should have started extra course. 8 more swipes each side now we are getting somewhere. Moved onto medium belt . 10 swipes each side . Getting there except I have a little burr. 5 swipes each side alternating sides. Nice.. shaving hair. Switch to fine belt . 10 swipes alternating . Wow... this thang is a razor. It's a hunting knife know need to go any further. I'm impressed. 20 minutes and a razor. Would have taken longer with stones. I will work on tip profile at some point. I expect with a higher quality steele it would have taken more work . But then again it might not of had been damaged as bad or left stabbed into the ground. This is the after pic.

  15. I'll second that. Was a staunch GM/Ford guy for years, just couldn't afford the repair bills any longer. Just traded in my 2007 Tundra on a new one this past August. 138k miles, a few dents and just a little bit of rust and they still gave me $10,500 for it. Brakes, batteries, and tires is all I ever spent on it. No repairs of any kind in 12 years. Try doing that with a Ford/Dodge/GM.

  16. A Toyota will consistently make it to 200K. I'm not so sure about the others. I don't know anyone who got a "bad" 4runner, but I have seen plenty of GM products with issues.

  17. Lots of stocking stuffer things. Here are the highlights. Dakota Arms 3-position M70 type M98 safety for my 7x57 custom Mauser project. This is the modification that can lift a Mauser from the "sporterized" category into the "custom" class. One of these installed by a professional gunsmith will be more than 1/2 the cost of a new "entry level" rifle. I will do my own installation. Since I do not have fixtures and a mill, it will take me an hour or more to hand fit it to the bolt, striker and sear interfaces. Headspace gauges for 7x57. Aftermarket rifle barrels have the chambers cut slightly "long" so headspace can be achieved with the particular action/bolt being used. These gauges allow the machinist to determine how much to face off of the breech end of the barrel and also check to see if the chamber is within spec when finished. They can also he used to check headspace on a used rifle of unknown history. The bolt should close on the "GO" gauge. If it closes on the "NO GO" gauge it is at or beyond maximum headspace. They also work for 257 Roberts. Hmmmm. Wouldn't my small ring M98 1934 Mexican Mauser action make a nice trim little 257 Roberts? I set of RCBS dies for my 30/40 Krag. These will take the place of the tired old Herters dies that I picked up used a few years back.

  20. To answer your question in a single word, NO ... Many dogs have been bred for years and years for specialized jobs, such as trailing (hounds) or retrieving or pointing.... Most hounds are bred to bark on the trail, and many other.... Some breeds are quite specialized, and other breeds are quite versatile, but it would be asking a lot for any breed to do everything REALLY WELL... Complicating things is the fact that many breeds have had their hunting instincts bred out of them over the years for show and pet stock... Try teaching a beagle how to retrieve ducks....Reminds me of the old proverb..."Never try to teach a pig to sing...It is a waste of time and it annoys the pig..."

  23. I did a lot of Coon hunting in my day, the methods used most are calling and with dogs. Not too many things more fun than hitting the timber at night with a good Coon dog. It is all about the skill and work of the dog unraveling the track, no matter what tricks the Coon pulls trying to fool the dog and making that Coon tree. Along with my Airedales I bred and trained English Coonhounds for Coon hunting and also did some competition hunting, some of the best times hunting I have ever had. As for eating, like anything else it is how they are prepared and cooked, it can be very good. Al

  27. Had a great night out predator hunting tonight. Took my buddy out for 2 sets, he’s never been out at night before. First set was pretty uneventful, second set we got there and spent the first 15 mins on some light rabbit and woodpecker distress calls and had 2 owls come flying in. They circled around in the field in front of us for a few minutes, which was really neat. After that I hit a coyote serenade and a minute later we had yotes lighting up a ways off. I gave It a few and hit an answer howl and they lit right back up again, this time quite a bit closer. I stayed Silent for 10 mins and then started up some female invitation howls. Just as the howls were done my buddy whispered “right here” and I looked At where he was shining. I saw Eyes and moved the rifle to that spot. I got The kill lint on and could clearly see a big yote on the edge of the field about 150 yards out. Just as I flipped Off the safety, he went to his left below a rise. We scanned around a bit but he never showed again. I tried To coax him back with some rodent distress but no dice. My buddy looked at me and asked if I had Noticed the wind had switched and was blowing right to where the coyote disappeared. Damn wind. He had a blast none the less, and had to head home after that set. After he left I hit 2 more spots. Called in a nice red on the first one, but I’m not supposed to shoot fox there. I had 3 groups of yotes talking to me on the last set, but none came in. It was such a good night I would Have done a couple more sets, but I have To work in the morning. I’ll be back after them after Christmas. Evan has been bugging the heck out of me to go. Hopefully I can Have some action while he’s there.

  33. Perhaps justifiably based on experience, but I suspect many that recommend against the American brands relate the issues of decades ago to todays vehicles. I really don't think Toyota is any more reliable today than a chevy or ford. 10-20 years ago, yep I would say Toyota had a bettor record. but my experience with late model American vehicles has been great. That includes GM and Ford.

  34. The Chevy gmc platform.is so good and super refined for the model year you are going to be getting into. Parts are cheap for the chevy/gmc If anything should go wrong. My BIL drove some kind Toyota truck ,you can't even check the trans fluid level on it via the dip stick. The Chevy engine either the post 87 small block or the LS is one of the best engine ever produced . None of that BS interference valve train or timing belts to brake or replace.

My 2 year old was pumped he got a hunter orange safety vest so he can head to the woods more often this fall. Father in law got me a hitch hauler for transporting deer and a few other things. But the best gift we received was from my brother and sister in law.....my wife and I found out we are going to be an aunt an uncle. Crazy how as you get older in life the simple things mean the most. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
