Well after a few short months of waiting my "holy crap" buck came back from the taxidermist. Jamie Wareham, TreeGuy's Taxi did an outstanding job and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm so glad I went with him. Here are some pictures. And of course a Victory Lap beer! Sorry for the sideways pictures. Can't seem to rotate them from the computer.28 points

Yep ! Full send Congrats again on a dandy buck. I'm glad your happy with the mount ( although I knew what the finished product would be ). I do feel like it appears to be 1 2/8" to the left of center on your wall though. Enjoy the victory lap !! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk10 points

Makes no difference to me how many stores are open or closed, I still won't spend a penny there! Even if they have a "SALE"!! Since they decided to join the gun control lobby, I decided they didn't want my business.6 points

Get on the right Team Image By LARRY CASE Our hunting privileges in the America are in jeopardy like they’ve never been before. Hunter numbers have dropped drastically; in 1970 over 40 million people bought a hunting license and today that number is probably less than 12 million. As our numbers decrease, so do our supporters. We’re already at the point in some states that every vote is needed when hunting related issues are on the ballot. After spending over 35 years as a DNR Conservation Officer, I’m still amazed how sportsmen, hunters and fishermen, cannot seem to agree on anything! Hunters are their own worst enemy; every type of hunter seems to have only that group’s interest at heart. Bow hunters don’t seem to be able to get along with gun hunters; muzzleloaders are often at odds with both of those groups, and there’s no way for a state game agency to set deer seasons that’ll please them all. Speaking of archery hunters I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a group of hunters more fragmented than those who hunt with some form of a stick and string. For years many avid bow hunters have fought the use of crossbows with an almost cult like fervor. “Crossbows are ruining bowhunting!” “It’s too easy!” “You don’t have practice!” “The crossbow hunters will kill too many deer!” I’ve heard these complaints in barbershops, at gun counters, on Internet forums, and on social media for years. Many seasoned bow hunters would have you believe a crossbow is the tool of the devil. The problem is certainly not just with bow hunters. Those who hunt with dogs often run afoul with other hunters in the field. Every year beloved and valuable hunting dogs are shot for no good reason. Currently there’s a debate going on in some states about deer management, the lowering of buck limits, and antler restrictions. Many deer hunters want to encourage the growing of bigger antlers. That’s all well and good, but how about the guy who just wants to go on public land with his kid in hopes of taking any legal deer? I don’t want to tell a young hunter he or she can’t take a spike or a fork horn for their first deer. There has to be leeway for both sides. On public land especially we’ve got to learn to respect the wishes of other hunters. Somehow, by the grace of God, we’ve got to get away from this close-minded thinking in the hunter ranks, which basically says “ I am right and you are wrong, my way or the highway!” You have your way of hunting, you learned from Dad and Grand Dad and maybe Uncle Bill. The guy in the next county over or in another state may not see hunting the same as you. What we’re getting down to is – and I want you to pay attention – If the other guy is hunting in a way that is not your cup of tea, but is legal, then keep quiet about it and even offer support if someone attacks him. The guy in a ground blind with a crossbow may not have your self-appointed seal of approval and the bird hunter’s setter that ran past your treestand didn’t really cause all the deer in a three county area to leave the country. If it’s legal to bait in your area but you don’t like it, don’t do it, but don’t berate the guy who does. Boys and girls, we’re way past the times when we can be picky about what another hunter does. Anything and everything we can do to get another pair of boots on the ground, to get another license purchased, and to have money spent in a gun store; that’s what we had better be thinking about. The well organized and well-funded anti-hunting groups are watching, and some say all they have to do is wait – wait for our numbers to fall below recoverable levels – and then move in for the kill. Why make their job easier by squabbling amongst ourselves? I didn’t coin this phrase, but, united we stand, divided we fall.5 points

Not a very big one, but I am happy about finding it. I haven't found any in a few years. I'm hoping to get back out there after the snow is gone.4 points

Not a soul been there since mid Dec. Hope I don't have to evict a few tenants! Going to air out the place and give it a good cleaning. Organize the shed also. Will take a few walks on the property to check out things. How about this for perfect timing....we had three deer mounted from last year. I called DJ's taxidermy in Bath and he said (his son mounted them) they would be ready on Sunday! I think this year I officially start my count-down to moving up to the cabin permanently. 2022 going to be a fun year! I'll post picts of the mounts on Sunday when I get them.4 points

I’ll downgrade my calling from an almost 6 to a 4 but 6 for enthusiasm and what to say and when Plus I don’t mind getting up at 3 to sit in the woods as there is nothing better than listening to the woods wake up.4 points

Oh it's there my pesky little friend. It's called a "concealed hammer", designed to facilitate quick draws from a pocket carry as there's no hammer spur to snag on your pocket. Now I know you are a "Bugle Boy" jeans type guy and I guess it just might not work so well with those "City" jeans.........but if you'd like to step up another level; I'll send this to your FFL and while it's en-route, pick up some Wranglers and you'll be heading the right direction. Maybe THEN you'll get your 8pt'r this fall.4 points

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this one. Hazy, dark orange color with a medium foamy head. You get that familiar EQ juice thing up front, but it quickly gives way to a drier, piney and bitter taste on the backend. Your sweet flower has a dark side too! I'm down with that.4 points

I was hungry tonight so on last night here in Iceland we decided to eat at one of our favorite restaurants Sæta svínið. Naturally I opted for the puffin, horse carpaccio, and delicious Minke whale. All were exquisite! Counting down the remaining 3 years till we get to meet again! Puffin not pictured because I ate it before I had a chance to take a picture... top is the Hrossa and bottom is the Minke Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk3 points

TF, I too run just a slate. And I can make decent sounds with it, but the hardest part for me is what calls to do and when. I usually try to just repeat whatever sounds I am hearing from the hens, or if it is a gobble to just putt and purr a little, otherwise stay silent. Come to think of it "stay silent" is probably my best turkey call and the hardest one to do3 points

I’ve posted things guys jumped on me for , know what I did ? Thought about why they saw it the way they did vs. what I said ,realized I wasn’t as clear as I meant to be and just didn’t reply to that thread anymore , as it wasn’t worth it .3 points

This is not directed at any one person, but if guys/ girls would take the high road every now and again when there’s a disagreement this thread would never have been started.3 points

Just to clarify what the author of the article is saying, the infighting isn't causing a decline in hunter numbers. He's saying with the decline in hunter numbers, we cannot afford infighting, because when those two factors combine, it is easier for the enemies of hunting to destroy it.3 points

A while back I was busted by a doe at full draw shooting a buck . Didn't see her sneak in . I got the shot off killing the.buck . Never thought about the doe again until gun season. She walked in with twins and peeked around a fallen pine tree started blowing and stomping . Wind was in my face away from her . I didn't move . I checked everything in my camo and gear could not figure it out . My buddy checked out things from the ground didn't see any thing ... I wasn't skylined. I decided to rest my stand a few days . . 3 days later I moved to another about 70 yds away . I hear a deer blowing . Out pops the doe and her fawns . Walks right by me and up into the field I know it's the same doe she had a cowlick on her hip . Damn deer is blowing at my other stand and I'm not even there. Following year it happens again . The damn biatch has got to go . I put another stand 60 yards away further in the woods where I can watch. Sure enough opening day gun season she comes through gets to my old stand peeks around the tree and snorts and stomps . After 5 minutes of this she gives up and carefully picks her way past the old stand and into the shooting lane . She looks up at my old stand stares for a minute and puts her head down and begins feeding. . Enough of this I pick a spot and slammed a 308 through her neck and that put an end to her game playing.3 points

Walked two properties and a little over 4 miles this afternoon. Picked up two good left sides and a small chewed up spike. Knew one buck well and had lots of pictures. Never seen the big 8 before but he’s a stud. 11” g2s and 23” beams. I also saw no less than four bucks with full racks and one with a half rack. It seems like they are holding later this year. I’m probably going to wait at least a week or two before I go out again. Definitely would be nice to find the matching sides for these two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you. I hope the corporate scum that made the decisions to alienate their customer base end up out in the street on their ass with no golden parachute.. I know alot of people that work for dicks /field and stream . Those people can't believe the decisions being made. Some have left but others are stuck trying to pay bill's and take care of there family. I dont shop there anymore. I have ordered from bps and cabelas. I shop when I can from lgs. Availability of some stuff is pretty slim at times but I wont walk through those doors again.2 points

A 3 or 4 out of 10 maybe. I can yelp with a mouth call. I can cluck and purr on a slate. I kill two spring birds every year. Seems to me you only need to call enough to make a tom curious, then keep quiet. Could be I'm just lucky.2 points

Many states that don't allow Sunday hunting get pressured by these other groups to keep hunters out of the woods one day a week so they can enjoy the outdoors safely. They are starting to gain influence. This is why we need to present a united front on all hunting issues.2 points
