  3. I enjoy reading all the posts. This is my first one.....Out in 7J yesterday morning before the snow with my crossbow. About 7:45am, a lone buck walks down the wooded hill about 50 yds to my right and into a field. I can tell he is a shooter but was disappointed as he hit the field and kept going. About 80 yds into the field he stopped for a bite and I was quick to grab the rattling bag. One rattle, his head came up and he looked over. Another rattle and he headed back toward me. He stopped near me on the edge of the woods at about 20 yds but I didn't have a shot due to trees. He started walking again and cleared for a shot. I bleated to stop him and let it fly as he was very slightly quartering away. The hit sounded good, he kicked, ran and was on the ground in 50 yards. I am convinced I would have never gotten a shot if it wasn't for the Rattling. The white vanes on the bolt were red after the pass through. When I got to him, I was blown away by the size of the entry hole with the Rage 2 blade Crossbow X. Showing a pic of the exit wound as well. The broadhead went straight through the heart in a clean cut. This is my first year hunting with them but I haven't seen anything like this entry before. Good luck to all!

  4. Got my doe,i am not sure how. Look what she crawled into... I just about stepped on her. She only went 60 yds from hit site. I am getting good at finding deer with poor shot placement i wish i didn't have to. Better pics later...

  6. This morning was hunt #18 for the season. I bumped a doe walking in and saw 4 more does wander through. I never heard this guy walking in, he just materialized over a small ridge about 30 yards away. He came straight toward me (and in front of a trail cam) and at about 15 yards he started to angle around me. When he finally started to turn broadside, he was under 10 yards from my tree stand (sorry Biz... not from the ground). He was walking slowly and I didn't dare try to stop him when he was that close. I aimed just behind shoulder and halfway up his body. I hit him a little further back than I planned, and he took off running. He stopped about 30 yards away and started looking around, I was hoping he would fall right there. I could see blood pouring out of the exit wound. Instead of falling, he casually walked out of sight. I got down from the stand and checked the arrow. Covered in good blood, and I could see his tracks and blood. I slowly followed and found him piled up just over 100 yards from where I shot him. The bolt entered through the 6th rib about halfway up, and exited between 6th and seventh low on the other side. The Rage did a great job almost cutting one lung in half, and punching a hole through the liver. Because he was so close, and just slightly quartered toward me, I missed the offside lung. I'm very happy and thankful for a nice buck and a quick, clean kill. I won't be hunting the next two weekends (likely best 2 weekends) because of travel, and plans, so the timing of this was perfect. While I was skinning him I noticed a large bald patch on his back between his shoulder blades, looks like some sort of scar.

  7. Dad said he saw a 4pt dogging a doe from 7-730am both under 30yds but he passed. 4pt made a scrape. After they left he grunted per my suggestion and a bigger buck came in and he shot it at 810am. 5 or 6pt he thinks at 42yds. He gave it 2.5hrs so far I’m gonna get dressed and go meet him to track Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Season is winding down for me. Go on night shift next week, on call 7 days a week, and no vacation approved after 11/1. May not get much more hunting in. So, I took this spike and I'm thankful for him.

  14. I got my 2nd doe. I made a shot worse than on my last doe and had to leave this one overnight. Luckily she didn't go far,it was at the edge of a pretty thick area where i shot her. She about crawled under this uprooted tree. I could just see a little brown patch on the hole. I am happy she didn't go far and the coyotes didn't get her,but i did. She is a good size doe and will hopefully get along with the other one in the freezer. I am going to butcher her right now.

  17. Wife got a nice 9 point about 9 am Sat. Shot was 38 yards with a CamX Chaos 325. It was only the second buck she has ever killed. It dressed out over160#. We followed a 200 yard blood trail to her prize. The extraction was a tough, uphill haul.

  19. I had a very exciting morning. Probably my best hunt in a very long time as far as quality and quantity. I had several opportunities and finally let an arrow fly. Early this morning I let a 9 walk by at 16 yards. Not long after, he decided to walk past all 4 of my cell cams on the property. After he left there were 3 different 8’s and another 9. Took some videos and let them walk. Giving a wide 8 a pass was a really tough call. I drew on him as he was about to walk under my stand. So I let down the bow and quickly grabbed my phone for a quick video. Looking back I probably shouldn’t have done that, but I knew there was bigger. At about 12, a buck came charging out of the bedding chasing a doe right under my stand. Just got a quick look and noticed some nice brows and kickers. Turns out he was the same buck I passed on early and he’s an 11. Stopped him with a mouth bleat for an 8 yard quartering away shot. Hit him high and slightly back and it came out low right behind the shoulder. Clean pass through and he only went 40 yards. He stopped and looked around for about 2 seconds, and tipped right over. He’s not the biggest buck there, but I’m happy with him. I still have another buck tag so I’m planning on being back in there on Friday morning.

  24. Yes sir I was born and raised in the Empire State, dairy farm boy, hunting and fishing and trapping, but the reality of life is I am a long way from home! It's been 45 years since I last lived in NYS. Seems like a week ago. Talk about high velocity passing of time. The bugle sounded, service and sacrafice, the four corners of the world, places I will always remember, places I have already forgotten. Can not say I have not been blessed by having had the opportunities to hunt and fish all over the world. Africa, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, Europe, Australia, the big dirty sandbox, just a big distant fog now. No matter where I was, the Monday before Thanksgiving I always remembered. No where in the world have I missed more and thought about as deeply as Western NY. Never had more fun, more pleasure then running around the hills of western NY. Deer hunting, grouse thickets, chuck shooting, squirrel'ing, busting cottontails in the thickets, chasing bears, coon hunting, trapping, playing hooky to be trout fishing, and even though it seems like yesterday, it's bloody close to half a century! My family, owned plenty land. Nary a time I was told I could not hunt or fish or trap by anyone. Those deer drives, seems like yesterday The EXODUS from NY, well founded and understood, all the time being asked why I want to go back to a place like NY. Indeed, I am a very long way from home. But there is no where I would rather be. I do hope there are some old timers that read this, and can understand why I love NY so much. No where in the world is there a place like NY. I have been back a few times thru the decades to hunt and fish. Hope to hear from you soon.

  25. Couldn’t ask for better shot op. She walked perfectly into my lane #fromtheground in front of my brush blind for a 12 yard shot. Pass through saw the blood pouring outa her on second step she ran 60-70 yards down into swamp and piled up. State land venison. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. I arrowed a small doe yesterday evening at the very last minute. #fromtheground. The shot looked good, but my tracking skills are not. Left it overnight and had an easy recovery this morning. Doe went less than 100 yds. Since I had game bags from my CO trip, I decided to debone the meat and pack it out. That was a first for me and it was easy. I'd certainly consider field processing again provided I had the time. Went back out for the last hour today, but saw nothing besides a couple people riding bikes through the woods, while talking loudly. Suburban hunting at its finest. 31. Voorheesville, Slingerlands, Delmar, Elsmere....that whole area has pockets of Giant bucks! Limited access, and bow only, insures they get some age on em. And age is the number one factor in BIG bucks. I know these areas very well. And have seen mega giants in all of them over the years. Even gained a couple small places to hunt here and there, but didn't put much effort into them. Just couldn't get used to hunting small woodlots surrounded by houses, with dogs barking, and kids playing. Just not my style.

  33. First day out with crossbow , morning I saw zip. Went back out @2:00 and put out some doe pee 20 yards from my stand. This buck walked right up to it at 3:15 and stopped at the spot and sniffed it, presenting me with the ideal quartering away shot. He went about 20 yards crashed into a tree and died. No tracking thank God. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. 1rst time out saturday November 2nd. I couldn't bow hunt this year do to a broken wrist. Been rough. At 830 am had this 8 point come threw. Had a small window to shoot and when he walked in I shot.Waited till 9 to track. While waiting had a 5 point walk by. Had good blood but then faded. While looking for blood seen another buck chasing a doe. Watched for about 5 minutes until they were out of sight. Tracked my buck for about 3 hours when I seen him laying down looking away from me. Shot him again. He went about another 100 yards and I found him dead. First shot was a little behind and caught gut. 2nd shot was in the back looking away but lunged him

  35. First legal buck to give me a shot was on my last day bowhunting for the year. Saw a few spikes and Doe but never in range He came through at 25 yards and stopped broadside. I heard the pop when the Rage hit, he ran off full tilt and I heard him crash. Went about 100 yards. Hoping for a big one in gun season. I hit him a little lower than I aimed. My stand is about 23 feet high but the entry and exit wounds are the same level. Makes no sense. Not sure if anyone has experienced that. I will start a topic on it as I've been trying to understand it. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

  36. @Hock3y24, a high hit can and usually does bleed very little. The blood can end up pooling in the thoracic cavity. I think you're doing right by waiting a little while. It's cool enough you should have no spoilage and hopefully you can find him before night fall. Best of luck.

  39. Just a low volume, soft "mee" to stop them. And be sure to be already on them, and at full draw before you do it! As soon as they stop, aim small.... and release.
